I’m such an idiot!!!
I’m a seller on Etsy and have posted out an order today (a gift box that a woman ordered for her friend).
She wanted a gift message included.
I’ve just been looking at her order again and realised she wanted her name “Grainne” on it but I remember I wrote “Love Granny” on it.
I don’t know how this happened as I’m normally extremely careful with all the little details. The order has been posted out now so there’s nothing I can do. The friend will receive it and be really confused as to who sent it.
I feel awful that I’ve probably ruined the surprise and will now likely receive a bad review too.
Should I email the customer to warn her and profusely apologise (and maybe offer a refund or a replacement?)
Or should I say nothing and see what happens?
:-(

Where I live ( Isle of Man ) Gráinne is pronounced GRAAH-nee-a
The dialect is is usually a short a.
I was bought up away and still occasionally slip into caarstle and graarss and baarth much to my adult children’s mirth .

Dd3 has a Irish name it gets spelled all sorts of ways she takes it with good humour as her leavers hoody will show you (hoping picture works)

Please advise me on what to do
Enko · 21/10/2020 14:23

@tara66 Some years ago my sister (Joan) and I sent our grandmother flowers they arrived with a beautiful card..

Love Enko and Johan.

So even simply spelt names can be messed up.

EmeraldShamrock · 21/10/2020 15:00

@Enko I can't make the name out.

No f in the mangling though. That was my first thought too.

Enko · 21/10/2020 15:03

yes she is Aoife. The misspellings we have had over the years is crazy & her favourite pronunciation was the Ay Oh Eye Fee

Enko · 21/10/2020 15:05

F is the 2nd last letter in the hoody

I just re-looked and realised there is an f in it! I wouldn't mind, but I looked at it about 3 times.

Should have gone to specsavers!

EmeraldShamrock · 21/10/2020 15:07

Haha thought it was Aoife. Smile
I've heard so crackers with Irish names.

Enko · 21/10/2020 15:19

At least you can spell Aoife..

She is currently living in Denmark and getting some VERY confused looks when her name comes up. She is considering using her VERY Danish middlename when out and about.

My niece is spanish, living in spain, but with an Irish father. She has an Irish name that she now spells phonetically in spanish so it is pronounced correctly.

Her brother uses the Irish spelling for his name and just corrects people who get it wrong.

Manth0914 · 21/10/2020 17:29

Blame autocorrect and apologise.

Hammer66 · 21/10/2020 17:39

Email & apologise it’s a genuine easy mistake. Send another card with correct message. It’s happens you are human!

FredtheCatsMum · 21/10/2020 17:47

Just make sure your client knows before it arrives, and apologise profusely. If she reacts badly, or asks, perhaps offer a refund.

But she'll probably be okay with it, especially if you 'fess up quickly.

Handonheart · 21/10/2020 17:48

You cannot believe the difference it makes if someone 'fesses up' before the error is found, however toe-curling it is, it'll definitely be worth your while!

clarehhh · 21/10/2020 17:51

You need to replace with correct one ASAP and let buyer know

Mumtobe1608 · 21/10/2020 17:53

Well aren’t you just a delight. It’s a small error. Just like you incorrectly spelling detail....

Wisteria1979 · 21/10/2020 17:54

I ordered Christmas plates that were personalised as a gift for some young relatives year before last. One was for a girl with dots above a letter. I had both send separate instruction as well as on the order form explaining exactly spelling etc. The plate still arrived with dots all over the place but - the seller was really apologetic and sent me a correct one with speedy delivery so we still received in time. We all make mistakes, most of the time it’s how we deal with them that counts.

Andi65 · 21/10/2020 17:57

You are clearly very conscientious but I think you are being far too hard on yourself - if I was the recipient I would think this was hilarious! I think you need to let them know in advance and apologise for your error but we all do this sort of thing all of the time! No need to refund or send an additional gift I would have thought - a sincere apology would be enough.

Taffster · 21/10/2020 18:02

I would apologise now. They’ll probably see the funny side, as others have said

DeliciouslyFemale · 21/10/2020 18:04

Enko, that’s hilarious.
