I’m such an idiot!!!
I’m a seller on Etsy and have posted out an order today (a gift box that a woman ordered for her friend).
She wanted a gift message included.
I’ve just been looking at her order again and realised she wanted her name “Grainne” on it but I remember I wrote “Love Granny” on it.
I don’t know how this happened as I’m normally extremely careful with all the little details. The order has been posted out now so there’s nothing I can do. The friend will receive it and be really confused as to who sent it.
I feel awful that I’ve probably ruined the surprise and will now likely receive a bad review too.
Should I email the customer to warn her and profusely apologise (and maybe offer a refund or a replacement?)
Or should I say nothing and see what happens?
:-(

@Morgana7 oh no! Honest mistake, I call my grandmother Grannie and would have read it the same. Just apologise and be honest

eatsleepread · 21/10/2020 18:15

I would get in touch to explain and apologise, but I wouldn't refund.
50% off her next purchase or similar.
Please don't beat yourself up! Thanks

MaryST7 · 21/10/2020 18:16

If it were me, I'd totally accept that it was an innocent mistake, just one of those things and would be really pleased that you had met me know. I think the person may only consider leaving a bad review if you don't do this. However, you can't anticipate what someone will do, she might be the type who likes to get annoyed over things!! But hopefully not and she'll appreciate both the warning and your honesty. Good luck!! x

eatsleepread · 21/10/2020 18:18

Oh, should have read the full thread. So pleased it's sorted!

tommyhoundmum · 21/10/2020 18:28

A note of genuine apology to each of them is all you should do. No refund or gift. You're a business woman an dthis was a small gift.

Winenotindeed · 21/10/2020 18:28

@MikeUniformMike

The recipient will probably thank his or her grandmother profusely, and she will assume it is some passive-aggressive dig at her. The whole family will argue about it and go NC. All because of your lack of attention to deail.
Can’t work out if this is meant to be “funny” But if not, such an awful comment.

To OP - I Haven’t had a chance to read any of the thread, but in my view, you’re human, you’ve made a mistake, apologise and send the card again. Good luck x

Jeeperscreepers69 · 21/10/2020 18:30

Theres worse things than a bad review. Forget about it x

exaltedwombat · 21/10/2020 18:36

Bless you! It's a misprint. Doubtless one this woman's very accustomed to. That's all. Throw her a quick email if you like. Certainly no need for a refund.

momtoboys · 21/10/2020 18:39

I'm so glad she was kind about it and all is well. Mistakes happen. Please don't be too hard on yourself.

Terrace58 · 21/10/2020 18:39

As a buyer, i would laugh this one off too. I would text my recipient and explain or if it’s a surprise, just watch the tracking number and text when it gets delivered.

Hihi88 · 21/10/2020 18:41

I would make them aware and offer both of them a discount on their next purchase.. people love a good discount. I wouldn't resend the box as they would have double everything, maybe resent the card.. business's make mistakes all the time, its what you do after to make sure you don't loose that audience.

ivegotdreadfulpmttoday · 21/10/2020 18:42

V funny but ....Is it just me or does anyone else think the name of the person sending the gift is not a tiny detail?

LemonDrizzles · 21/10/2020 18:44

Post another card to the recipient with the correct message asap.
And tell the customer.
But try to fix the mistake first

Morgana7 · 21/10/2020 18:51

Thanks for all the kind words. For posters still offering advice it was all sorted out yesterday and I posted on here to let everyone know that she wasn’t bothered at all and found it hilarious x

I think its funny to, if it was me id laugh, hope the people involved have a sense of humour and aren't miserable

myfaceismyown · 21/10/2020 19:01

Fellow Etsy seller here. Send correct gift card to recipient. If it was a birthday gift might be nice if you include an appropriate card to make them smile. Then email customer with detail of the action you have taken, lots of sorries and you could make a coupon code for discount on future purchase.

myfaceismyown · 21/10/2020 19:04

Sorry OP - your last message just came up after I posted! Glad you sorted it and they found it amusing.

GabsAlot · 21/10/2020 19:07

brilliant result op and if youre reading buyer nice one

SurroundedByIdiotsEverywhere · 21/10/2020 19:12

Glad it worked out okay... Just wanted to say that if you continue to put in so much care over every future order I am sure your business will flourish... Good luck!

FelicisNox · 21/10/2020 19:43

Glad it worked out ok.

Weebleonaworkout · 21/10/2020 20:14

The best customer services is that that acts first imo. Its horrible having to chase up for things and complain about lack of contact etc. Get in first before they can complain. If they're fully forgiving offer a discount on their next order perhaps. A card to the recipient with an apology too would be a lovely touch.

AppleCrumbleForBreakfast · 21/10/2020 20:17

Don’t stress, it’s not that big a deal! If she’s reaSonable, she’ll be fine.

Weebleonaworkout · 21/10/2020 20:17

Apologies, I've just read your last email. So glad it went well. Makes a nice change to have a seller care so much. Good luck with the business!

homemadecookie · 21/10/2020 20:18

So glad it had a happy ending. My best friend sent me flowers last year from a ocal florist and instead of signing it 'Bestie' they put 'Betsie'... we had the best laugh and now i'm known as Betsie! 😂

Gabbianni · 21/10/2020 20:19

Email, profusely apologise, offer a refund and free gift - if I was the customer - I have to be honest, with all of the above in place, I would have to chuckle over it - after all it is something to remember e.g. do you remember the year you were Granny not Grainne?
