I’m such an idiot!!!
I’m a seller on Etsy and have posted out an order today (a gift box that a woman ordered for her friend).
She wanted a gift message included.
I’ve just been looking at her order again and realised she wanted her name “Grainne” on it but I remember I wrote “Love Granny” on it.
I don’t know how this happened as I’m normally extremely careful with all the little details. The order has been posted out now so there’s nothing I can do. The friend will receive it and be really confused as to who sent it.
I feel awful that I’ve probably ruined the surprise and will now likely receive a bad review too.
Should I email the customer to warn her and profusely apologise (and maybe offer a refund or a replacement?)
Or should I say nothing and see what happens?
:-(

Funny as fuck. I'd love that!

FrankieChips · 20/10/2020 20:41

I’m still laughing at Quackie Grin Glad it’s all okay Morgana. Have a cup of tea or something stronger and relax Wine

Morgana7 · 20/10/2020 20:43

Can you send another gift box to the person that paid with an apology in? That way they won’t be upset because it will be a nice treat for them too! If that happened to me I would be secretly glad and leave you an amazing review!

Don’t over apologise because it becomes meaningless.

Newnamenewopenme · 20/10/2020 20:49

Oh you updated as I was sending! Glad it’s sorted!

DeliciouslyFemale · 20/10/2020 20:52

Aww, that’s brilliant and I’m glad she didn’t let the side down. 😁 wonders if Granny is a Mumsnetters 👋

Pepperwand · 20/10/2020 20:53

I am crying with laughter at Quackie.

IdkickJilliansass · 20/10/2020 20:57
@IdkickJilliansass - I’ve been giggling about yours for about 5 minutes!
I couldn’t stop laughing at the time, it was a Chinese company and they were so earnest in their response it made it all the more funnier

YerWanIsGettinNotions · 20/10/2020 20:57

This is the most exposure I have ever seen the name Grainne get on Mumsnet - usually it's on the "ugliest Irish names" lists right behind Gobnait!

My colleague and I were hastily exchanging emails before a meeting last week as we'd been told that "Graham" from our team was attending and we'd never met him, assumed he was new and didn't know his last name to add him to the meeting invite.

We eventually- and just in time - worked out that actually it was "Grain".... Grainne.

Notsurewhatsgoingon · 20/10/2020 20:59

So glad it's OK.

My friend gave me an engraved item when my first child was born and it had the completely wrong name on, it was similar to her name but spelt very wierdly so it didn't make sense. Think Sophie-sofa. Why would someone think it was a name and not check Halloween Grin. I don't think she checked it before handing it over as it was wrapped. I never said anything because I was too polite and hormonal. I actually displayed it with the other gifts in my dc room.
It was a nice gesture and mistakes happen.

IdkickJilliansass · 20/10/2020 21:04

Love Quackie and ‘English letters’ how is Gobnait pronounced! I remember reading a book by an Irish author and the main woman in it was called Tossa

friskybivalves · 20/10/2020 21:06

Quackie was quite upset the gift itself wasn't personalised. She said it would have been her best ever present GrinGrinGrin

YerWanIsGettinNotions · 20/10/2020 21:07

Gobnait is pronounced "Gub-net"!

DC3Dakota · 20/10/2020 21:09

I've never heard Grainne before. If I hadn't learnt otherwise from this thread, I'd have pronounced it "Grainy" But now I'm all prepared for visiting Ireland one day, post Covid....obvs. Every day is a school day! 📚

daisychain1620 · 20/10/2020 21:16

I'm laughing at Quackie lol. I think you have handled the situation really well and it sounds as though you truly car which is lovely. My brother's work colleague is Eoghan (sounds liked Owen). You can imagine what he gets called at times lol.

daisychain1620 · 20/10/2020 21:17

Care not car😅

ErickBroch · 20/10/2020 21:28

Just be honest and offer a partial refund - if it was me i would find it funny and not even want it.

CardinalCat · 20/10/2020 21:29

Quackie has given me my first proper belly laugh for a long long time. Grin

OP, I'm so glad the customer was kind and understanding.

LunchBoxPolice · 20/10/2020 21:30

Good to see she went against the grainne and laughed about it.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 20/10/2020 21:33

All's well that ends well then? Good!

I would have found it funny too.

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/10/2020 21:34

I would just laugh. Just sent an apology.

JuliaJohnston · 20/10/2020 21:39

I'd expect you to warn the customer what had happened and get a correct replacement out ASAP.
That's a fairly fundamental error!

I have been racking my brains, was it Amy Adams in Leap Year who tried to pronounce Eoghan?!
YouUnlockedTheGateAnd · 20/10/2020 21:47

^ so is not reading the thread

oakleaffy · 20/10/2020 21:50

@Morgana7

The order was correct, just not the gift message. I think you’re right though and I should let her know. Thank you
ahhh....so of not a box with ''Love Granny'' on it, that isn't nearly so bad.

Fess up to the customer NOW.

It is so easily done...''Grainne'' could easily be read as ''Grannie''

I had a Beloved dog who had to be PTS, and I ordered a brass plaque, and they did a stupid pisstake with a human surname that the dog had...

I got a new plaque, and no stress...Apart from annoyance.

But Grainne and Grannie.... Ces't la vie.
