I’m such an idiot!!!
I’m a seller on Etsy and have posted out an order today (a gift box that a woman ordered for her friend).
She wanted a gift message included.
I’ve just been looking at her order again and realised she wanted her name “Grainne” on it but I remember I wrote “Love Granny” on it.
I don’t know how this happened as I’m normally extremely careful with all the little details. The order has been posted out now so there’s nothing I can do. The friend will receive it and be really confused as to who sent it.
I feel awful that I’ve probably ruined the surprise and will now likely receive a bad review too.
Should I email the customer to warn her and profusely apologise (and maybe offer a refund or a replacement?)
Or should I say nothing and see what happens?
:-(

Quackie!!! 🤣🤣🤣 brilliant!

A previous colleague of mine phoned through an interflora order when her friend had a baby. She asked for the card to say "You Stars!" except they wrote "You starve!" 😁

hilariousnamehere · 20/10/2020 21:53

I'm snorting at Quackie!

Glad she was lovely OP 😊

oakleaffy · 20/10/2020 21:54

@Morgana7

How is Grainne actually pronounced?
Grah-niah.

My brother knew a Grainne!

DeliciouslyFemale · 20/10/2020 21:58

People coming on to criticise the OP for not paying attention to the bane, while obviously not paying attention to the thread. 🙄

DeliciouslyFemale · 20/10/2020 21:58

Babe=name 😁

oakleaffy · 20/10/2020 21:59

Ohh.....

I have been pronouncing Grainne incorrectly ....as has my Brother!

DeliciouslyFemale · 20/10/2020 21:59

I’m away to get my glasses. 🤓 🤦🏻‍♀️

Lol! 😂

You are not the only one! This morning I read 25 as 28.

Do you remember when you were a child and something funny gave you the most uncontrollable giggles? It used to happen to me in class a fair bit and I'd get told off but could never stop myself.

Quackie has reduced me to laughing so hard my stomach hurts. I've lost all sense of proportion and am close to losing it completely. It's been a bad day. I think I needed a release Grin

Glad it was ok OP

FedUpWithBriiiiick · 20/10/2020 22:03

@Morgana7

She’s replied and been really kind about it. She couldn’t care less and just thinks it’s funny. She doesn’t want any refund/replacement sending out and she said her friend would have easily worked out it was from her. Phew! I definitely need a thicker skin doing this (and some better glasses it would seem). At least I won’t have to worry about it happening again as I’ll be checking every last tiny detail now just incase! Thanks for the kind reassurance everyone. And for all the laughs too
That's a good Nordie.

What a lovely customer. Personally I'd laugh too.
I'm glad it is sorted.

This was me 5 minutes ago. Grin
PumpkinetChocolat · 20/10/2020 22:10

Honestly is there any fucking need for being over dramatic? She feels shit enough. Be kind in what you say!

*Justwingingmotherhood
Are you being sarcastic, or did you spectacularly miss the joke?

Glad the customer wasn't bothered about the mistake!

Alez · 20/10/2020 22:11

I would email and apologise, but not offer a refund. They've received the gift fine and it's just a small mistake. Perhaps give them a £5 voucher or something to make up for it.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 20/10/2020 22:12

Glad the customer was fine with it, don't beat yourself up over it.

I do think it was the correct thing to email the customer. I lost my Granny a few months back and that would have really upset me. If I'd have been warned before hand I would have been ok

Notnownotneverever · 20/10/2020 22:21

Honestly I would just find this so funny and so would any of my friends who received the gift. It would make it even better and more memorable and I wouldn't be upset at all.
If they left you a bad review for a simple typo/spelling error then they are extremely mean spirited and lacking a sense of humour.

tensmum1964 · 20/10/2020 22:21

Quackie. That is the best thing I've heard in years. Really made me laugh out loud.

AngelaScandal · 20/10/2020 22:23

Crying at Quackie 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Tigsley2 · 20/10/2020 22:29

I would send an apology card - to arrive with the receiver of the gift.. saying 'sorry I included the wrong message with your gift'.. so she gets the right message and knows who the gift is from

I would possibly apologise to the purchaser too.. .and give a discount if you felt inclined.

Elizaaa · 20/10/2020 22:34

Apologise, send a new gift card to the recipient and send a small token to the purchaser. I wouldn't refund.

Newmumatlast · 20/10/2020 22:37

@ItWasntMyFault

Is it just me that thinks this is actually quite funny? As long as you warn the customer they will probably find it hilarious
I'm in the same school of thought as you.

OP, hopefully your customer and their friend has a similar sense of humour. This is the sort of thing that would make me laugh and think even more fondly of the gift. I recently received a gift from a friend which had a personalisation but she didnt realise and so didn't change the auto entered name so it came out to Claire. I told her and we had a good laugh about it.

greenemerald · 20/10/2020 22:39

Reminds me of this meme Grin

Please advise me on what to do
Holidayaddict · 20/10/2020 22:48

This reminds me of when my dad died and our rellies in Austrailia sent some lovely flowers with all their names on the card, including Stan & Adrian - should've been Sian & Aiden! Thought it was hilarious despite the circumstances!
Glad the customer was lovely!

CheshireChat · 20/10/2020 23:40

If it's any consolation, I've recently received a solicitor's letter and my name is so mangled it's virtually unrecognisable. A petty part of me is considering not answering to it just because it's that bad Grin.
