I’m such an idiot!!!
I’m a seller on Etsy and have posted out an order today (a gift box that a woman ordered for her friend).
She wanted a gift message included.
I’ve just been looking at her order again and realised she wanted her name “Grainne” on it but I remember I wrote “Love Granny” on it.
I don’t know how this happened as I’m normally extremely careful with all the little details. The order has been posted out now so there’s nothing I can do. The friend will receive it and be really confused as to who sent it.
I feel awful that I’ve probably ruined the surprise and will now likely receive a bad review too.
Should I email the customer to warn her and profusely apologise (and maybe offer a refund or a replacement?)
Or should I say nothing and see what happens?
:-(

I don't think it's a huge deal. I've an Irish name like that and get everything! I would find it funny. This person is probably used to it too. Just message her.

MikeUniformMike · 20/10/2020 18:05

I was only pulling your leg,OP.

It has probably happened to her before.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 20/10/2020 18:08

Dont replace it ! Send a note with a short explanation and a small token gift as an apology. Grainne will probably appreciate this and remember your business in the future ! Small errors do not matter , it's how you deal with them

sapnupuas · 20/10/2020 18:12

I found it funny, too.

There is no way this is refund-worthy.

Apologise. Refund postage or knock off £1 for the gift card if she complains.

Morgana7 · 20/10/2020 18:16

I’ve emailed her a very apologetic email and I’ll see what she says and take it from there. If she’s annoyed I’ll refund her/send another box.
If she’s ok about it then I’ll just apologise and offer a discount on a future order. What a twat I am! That’ll teach me for not wearing my glasses when packing up orders

Blame autocorrect and give her a small percentage of the money back

justchecking1 · 20/10/2020 18:18

Oh god, imagine if the friend is sending her a gift to cheer her up after just losing her grandmother! 😳

Morgana7 · 20/10/2020 18:21

I don’t think it’s for the loss of her gran as the gift message also said “get well soon”. I hope she emails back soon as I feel so anxious waiting for her response

I once ordered a personalised wedding gift to “Mr & Mr”.

When it arrived it inevitably had “Mr & Mrs”. Gay best friend had to wait until after the honeymoon for his present Blush

ColonSemiColon · 20/10/2020 18:23

There are ways it could go horrible (recently deceased Gran, Grainne who is v pissed off with the English getting her name wrong), but I think now you’ve contacted the customer it should be ok. You shouldn’t ask your DH for customer service advice again, he is very bad at it.

IdkickJilliansass · 20/10/2020 18:25

@MikeUniformMike

The recipient will probably thank his or her grandmother profusely, and she will assume it is some passive-aggressive dig at her. The whole family will argue about it and go NC. All because of your lack of attention to deail.
You’re taking the piss, right 😂
Morgana7 · 20/10/2020 18:26

I suppose if Grainne is really annoyed or there’s an issue such as a recently deceased gran then I’m just going to have to take a bad review on the chin.
I’ve worked really hard to have all 5 star reviews and I suppose mistakes happen now and again to everyone but this feels like such a stupid thing to have done. She’ll probably read my email and think I’m a moron.
Anyway, I’ve done all I can now so fingers crossed it’s all ok and at least it’s taught me to check, double check and check again when writing any gift messages

I’d find it hilarious, I once ordered stickers with a cartoon of my son on and didn’t realised I’d asked the company to make him blind not blonde!

Morgana7 · 20/10/2020 18:29

Hahaha that’s hilarious.
My mum once ordered me some pants when I was a young teenager and she didn’t realise they came with “single and ready to mingle” across the bum.

AngelaScandal · 20/10/2020 18:31

If Gráinne is Based in England she is probably used to it .
My friend once thought I had taken my grandmother on a lovely inter-railing trip. I hadn’t . It was my friend Grainne

LadyJaye · 20/10/2020 18:31

As somebody with a very uniquely spelled Celtic name similar to Grainné, I'm used to people misspelling/mispronouncing it, and I'd probably just laugh, roll my eyes, and log it to the 'yet another example of non-Scottish people not being able to deal with my name' file. It wouldn't be my first time at that particular rodeo.

However, you've realised your mistake, so I think dropping a note of apology and an offer of rectification to the seller would be a good thing.

IdkickJilliansass · 20/10/2020 18:33

Omg 😂😂😂 bless her. I didn’t realise my mistake until the company messaged me to say all they could do was put a superhero mask over his eyes!
Morgana7 · 20/10/2020 18:33

They are both in N.I :-(

Some of my own relatives still spell my name wrong.

ImaSababa · 20/10/2020 18:36

Hopefully she will see the funny side!

I once got a bunch of flowers with a card saying "love from Suzanne with an S"...

Morgana7 · 20/10/2020 18:38

LOL

Yourpartjewishfriend · 20/10/2020 18:38

You've cared, which is half the battle of customer service! I'd be fine if I were the customer and I'd just tell my friend.

TenShortStories · 20/10/2020 18:41

You've done the right thing. However annoyed Grainne was going to be, you can only have made it better by giving her a heads up and apologising.

AngelaScandal · 20/10/2020 18:42

It’ll be grand. Honestly.

Namechanger20183110 · 20/10/2020 18:45

Placemarking for the update on what Granny replies with, sorry OP 😂
