If No-Deal, BJ has a moral imperative to resign.

Do they honestly think the public won’t notice the not-so subtle shift in terminology to “Australian-Style Deal?” Clearly, the latest Cummings brainwave.

No - it’s “No-Deal.” As in - nothing and you have failed. You can put whatever spin on it you like, it won’t wash.

I did laugh yesterday when MG was rambling on about this “Australian-style Deal” and Andrew Marr asked why “Australian” as opposed to a “Mongolian-Style Deal” or an “Afghan” one?

Basically, we are likely to be out in less favourable terms than Canada.

Surely, this has to be the end if this government?

Well of course he'll resign, he's got what he wanted.

Hopoindown31 · 19/10/2020 08:52

He may well go, not because he has any morals but because this leading lark is awfully hard work and he can earn more money far more easily elsewhere.

gassylady · 19/10/2020 08:55

Agree with pp I don’t think he has a”moral compass” but I’m sure he would resign to spend more time with his current family. Then find a way to make money from the whole sorry s*show

exiledfromcornwall · 19/10/2020 08:56

Nor just BJ, this whole rotten government needs to come drashing down.

AlexaShutUp · 19/10/2020 08:57

Talking about a moral imperative implies that he actually has morals. I have not seen any evidence of this yet.

Echobelly · 19/10/2020 08:58

TBH, letting him resign seems like letting him off the hook.

AlexaShutUp · 19/10/2020 08:58

Even if it's the biggest shit show ever, it will no doubt be presented as the greatest victory.

unmarkedbythat · 19/10/2020 09:00

I'm not sure moral responsibility is something that matters to our current government.

The dickheads who voted it in are also culpable but already making excuses. We were lied to, they say, and I think, we all were, dickheads, but you chose to believe it.

'Boris is only being like this because he had Covid , he can't help it'

So said a diehard Tory who has never voted for any other party 🙄😲🤬

Nooo! Boris is not allowed to swan off and make lots of money, he needs to stay and stand up in front of us and mumble about how it’s all ok and generally let the whole country see what an utter fool he is. And I hope he hates every minute.

It’s not like we’d get a better Tory in charge if he left.

nosswith · 19/10/2020 09:08

That means waiting until January. There are at least 200 Tory MPs who could do a better job than him.

The best thing the Queen could ever do is use the Royal Prerogative and dismiss him. He is so bad that whilst I was glad he recovered from Covid 19, the country would have been better off if he had died.

AnguaResurgam · 19/10/2020 09:08

I thought he'd said all along that he'd prefer a deal, but would go with 'no deal' if it came to that.

So no, I don't think there is any imperative for him to resign

Moonmelodies · 19/10/2020 09:10

People chose not to stop Brexit by not voting LibDem in the last election. That's democracy.
I guess a future government could apply to rejoin, should the electorate desire.

CakeRequired · 19/10/2020 09:12

Well of course he'll resign, he's got what he wanted.

This. Of course he'll resign, he's not stupid enough to take on no deal brexit AND a pandemic. He's stupid enough to have done this to the country, but not stupid enough to take the full blame. Someone else gets to do that.

Really he should be forced to stay and handle it, but that can't be done. I would much rather he stays and goes down in history as the biggest tosser to have ever been born here but it won't happen.

Brighterthansunflowers · 19/10/2020 09:13

None of the Tory cabinet even have a smidge of a moral compass

If he resigns it’ll be because he’s had to do some actual work instead of just heckling other people.

KetoPenguin · 19/10/2020 09:15

I don't think no deal is good but I don't agree he has to resign, he has always been clear he would take the no deal option if negotiations didn't go his way and everyone who voted for him knew that.

looseddaughter · 19/10/2020 09:16

This was the intention all along but he'll resign at some point because Cummings will order it as his name is tainted by this and the pandemic. What this government is doing to the country is utterly unforgivable.

Toscata · 19/10/2020 09:17

Hahahahaha

"BJ" and "moral imperative" in the same sentence

DynamoKev · 19/10/2020 09:19

On a point of pedantry, he wasn’t born here (assuming you mean UK)

zefi · 19/10/2020 09:20

In a coffee shop yesterday, I actually heard a woman (must have been in her 60s) announce quite positively - “We’re going to be like Australia now!”

I can’t cope. Do they think the sun will shine and koalas will take to the trees. It’s as if they can throw any old scraps to some people and they’ll be eternally delighted.

InsanityRocks · 19/10/2020 09:27

Unfortunately I think the public will buy the re-branding of no deal to Australian deal judging by all the other lies that have been swallowed.

GameSetMatch · 19/10/2020 09:28

So much for his ‘oven ready’ deal! Honestly I’m so mad at him but also at the public for believing him.

looseddaughter · 19/10/2020 09:28

@KetoPenguin

That's rubbish. He campaigned in the election last year on the basis that he had an 'oven ready deal'. It was all we heard about until after the election... Now they're rowing back on it and claiming it was never good enough - well why call it oven ready then? They now claim it was never a deal but was just there to get the WA through parliament. That's obviously true so the whole election was based on a lie. As far as I'm concerned he should be dragged to parliament and on tv to explain why he did that.
DynamoKev · 19/10/2020 09:30

Not everyone is buying their crap. If we had a proper electoral system quite a lot of this would never have happened.
