To think we shouldn't wish ill on Trump?

imamearcat · 03/10/2020 01:08

I must admit I'm not proud of how I felt when I heard Trump has Covid. Dislike him as much as most of us. Let's be honest, it wasn't a feeling of sadness.

But I feel a bit awful about my reaction, I would have hoped I wouldn't wish anyone ill / dead, so I'm trying to get over myself and grow up!

Is it not a really horrible thing, to be glad someone might be seriously ill / die, even if they are a cunt? He's still a person?

I don't wish him dead. I still think he's a terrible president.

sugarwithcoffeeandcream · 03/10/2020 08:53

I'd be interested to know what his response would he, had Biden and his team been the ones to test positive, rather than him. It wouldn't have been sympathy or even thoughts and prayers, but some bullshit about Biden being weak etc.

Nope I'm happy for COVID to be the end of him. But although I'm in no way a conspiracy theorist, I can't help but think the timing is a little convenient re the possibility of postponing the election.

b0redb0redb0red · 03/10/2020 08:55

I agree, Dozer. All the handwringing about “how can you wish a man ill just because he has different politics to you?” is dishonest. I’m not convinced that Trump even has any politics, other than a desire to enrich himself and stay out of legal trouble, an inability to admit that he isn’t infallible, and - yes - racism.

For what it’s worth, a lot of the people laughing at Trump’s diagnosis on my Facebook timeline voted Tory at the last election. Many of them clapped enthusiastically for Boris. Trump isn’t their guy - they recognise him as a menace and a wrecker.

Mittens030869 · 03/10/2020 08:56

I don't want him to die, but I won't be too sad if he does. I'm saving my empathy for the 200k Americans who have died because of his incompetent handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

HMSSophie · 03/10/2020 09:05

The sooner he shuffles off this mortal coil, the better.

Khajit · 03/10/2020 09:11

Yeah I think it would be beautiful poetic justice if he died of covid tbh!

Bet he only gets a mild case though and he will absolutely manipulate it to his advantage.

Newjez · 03/10/2020 09:12

So... basically this thread is an argument between those who feel guilty about wishing trump dead, and those who don't feel guilty about wishing trump dead?

I love Mumsnet.

Mondaymanic · 03/10/2020 09:13

I find people who would be delighted if he died really odd.
I don't like him at all but don't understand that mentality

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 03/10/2020 09:16

I think the world would be a much better and safer place without Trump as President. So in the hierarchy of preferences, I would choose for him not to get re-elected, rather than for him to die. BUT, given he is actually malign and destructive as a leader (rather than merely ineffective or incompetent; though he is those things too) then, yes, I would prefer for him to die than to be re-elected.

I have really questioned myself about this. I’m not actively “willing” him dead (not that that is even a thing), but I would not care at all were he to die. By contrast when Johnson was in the ICU I actively hoped he would recover. In my view, Johnson is incompetent as a PM and appalling as a man, but I don’t think he presents the same level of risk to humanity that Trump does.

I have properly analysed my feelings about Trump dying, and whilst they may not represent my finest hour as a human, I am comfortable with how I feel.

BoingBoingyBoing · 03/10/2020 09:24

The world would be a better place without him.

nosswith · 03/10/2020 09:44

We should not wish ill on him or anyone else with the virus. For example, even though I consider Mr Johnson through his inaction in early March to be a mass killer, I did not want him to die when he was ill.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 03/10/2020 09:59

It’s not him - it’s what he stands for
That said , even if he dies another psycho will step up anyway

SecretSpAD · 03/10/2020 10:58

*If he dies from this he'll be treated as a martyr by his supporters. I certainly won't feel sorry though if he's ill and has an uncomfortable time.

I'd like him to be around to be defeated in the election and I'd be happy to see him in prison.*

Yes this. I want him charged, locked up and humiliated.
I don't give a flying fuck that he has kids because it's obvious the older ones are as odious as him and the youngest probably will end up just the same - so no sympathy for them.....but a question for the people who say we shouldn't wish him dead because of the kids....if he didn't have any, what would you think then? Would you give a shit?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 03/10/2020 11:02

I agree OP. Being gleeful about someone getting covid makes the person equal shit🤷🏻 Yes, we can say "karma, innit" but people are genuinely celebrating it. That's sick tbh.

"Well he would laugh" is a crap argument by the people who laugh at him. It makes them the same🤷🏻

yetanothernamitynamechange · 03/10/2020 11:07

Yes, when the table have been turned Trumo has shown 0 sympathy for oppnents (or people he views as opponents) and their families. Including Sgt la David Johnson's widow, the hundreds of black people killed by police, South American children in cages etc. But thats because he's a terrible terrible person. Most people wouldnt wish for a 14 year old to lose his father or for anyone, however awful, to die. That doesn't mean Ill be sending thoughts and prayers (not least because they do f all). But I hope he recovers and then loses the election in a landslide.

Abraid2 · 03/10/2020 11:12

@BigChocFrenzy

However, it would be a bloody awful mess at this stage of the US election process

It would be typical of him to create even more chaos for his country by dying at the most awkward time

I entirely agree. I didn't vote for Boris but felt very disturbed when he was in ICU. THe consequences for the US at such a febrile time of him becoming gravely ill or worse would be terrible.

Plus...they go low, we go higher.

BlueThistles · 03/10/2020 11:23

I don't wish anything on anyone ... that could be wished right back on myself. 🌺

RaisinGhost · 03/10/2020 11:36

Yeah so true SchrodingersImmigrant, thats sick. Unlike inciting white supremacists to kill people of colour - that's not sick at all, thats just a difference of political opinion. Hmm

SchrodingersImmigrant · 03/10/2020 11:39

Did I stand up for his politics? No. They are sick too. What I am pointing out that people celebrating it, are in the end of the day no better than him🤷🏻
RaisinGhost · 03/10/2020 11:42

Really? How many people have died because of my post just now? How many have died because of Trump? Yep we are just as bad. I posted on the prayers thread too, so I'm practically Hilter.

unmarkedbythat · 03/10/2020 11:43

We shouldn't wish ill on anyone, but I can see why people harmed by his actions might actively be pleased that he is suffering. My first reaction was "yeah right, what timing". Am I glad he has covid? No, but I'm not bothered by what happens to him. I won't grieve if he dies. I won't celebrate either, but I won't care much except for the impact it may have on the election.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 03/10/2020 11:44

I don't know. I just don't celebrate anyone getting potentially deadly disease for them. Maybe I am an idiot🤷🏻

RaisinGhost · 03/10/2020 11:46

Maybe you should celebrate for the people he is actively trying to harm. And if you're a women, that's you.

RaisinGhost · 03/10/2020 11:47

We shouldn't wish ill on anyone

If only Trump himself believed that!

Duanphen · 03/10/2020 11:47

I have no idea when "wishing people dead" was considered a bad thing. I think horrible things all the time. Of course I open the papers and wish "bad" people dead. And I'm sure lots of other people do too.

It seems a really weird thing that we've all suddenly got to never, ever wish anyone dead for anyone reason. Fuck that.
