To think we shouldn't wish ill on Trump?

I must admit I'm not proud of how I felt when I heard Trump has Covid. Dislike him as much as most of us. Let's be honest, it wasn't a feeling of sadness.

But I feel a bit awful about my reaction, I would have hoped I wouldn't wish anyone ill / dead, so I'm trying to get over myself and grow up!

Is it not a really horrible thing, to be glad someone might be seriously ill / die, even if they are a cunt? He's still a person?

Personally I think it’s fine to wish him ill will. Most Americans would be thrilled if he died. He is the worst thing to happen to America in a long time.

Doubt they'd be thrilled for long. By all accounts, Pence is worse- and Trump is a puppet, Pence an actual politician. (I am parroting what I have heard and actually have zero opinion of Pence personally)
PhilCornwall1 · 03/10/2020 05:27

Just as with Johnson, I wasn't smiling or laughing when I heard the news and hoping they die, but I wouldn't have cared if Johnson died and won't if Trump does.

StartingOver2020 · 03/10/2020 05:27

A few years ago some one died who had once caused me to flee for my life into a refuge. I felt real relief and I think that’s a common experience for people who have been abused.

Donald Trump has caused, encouraged and supported a huge amount of abuse, injury and death.

Whether soon or late his passing will be a relief to many.

Ohtherewearethen · 03/10/2020 05:33

What a lot of halos to polish among the sanctimonious members of Mumsnet!
Having too much self respect to wish ill of someone was my particular favourite.
People claiming that he's a human being and doesn't deserve to die, etc, are wrong. We all die, it's the only guarantee in life. Being a human being, and a human being with immense power, comes with responsibility. He has failed on so many counts of being a decent human being. He's racist. Homophobic. Misogynistic. Inappropriate about his daughter. Child abuser. A sexual predator. A liar. A narcissist. A philanderer. A classist snob. He does not uphold his end of the bargain at being a decent human being and how other people feel about him is their right. Some people make the world worse. He is one of them. Thousands upon thousands of real people suffer directly because of him.

derxa · 03/10/2020 06:02

I wish him well

planplan · 03/10/2020 06:06

I don't wish him dead. I wish him karma.

Horrible man.

Nandocushion · 03/10/2020 06:08

@cbt944

I still have fond memories of him as The Donald doing his show Celebrity Apprentice. He was a bit of a cock then, at times, too. But his callousness and flippancy back in March and April while they were pouring bodies into refrigerated trucks as the New York City morgues were too full, and as its overwhelmed and improperly equipped with PPE hospital staff, as well as whole neighbourhoods of Black and Hispanic Americans, were dying helplessly; and his continued ridiculing of medical advice and anyone urging him to take matters seriously, and geeing up his fanbase to break lockdowns, causing more outbreaks and more unnecessary and painful deaths, as well as lingering after effects, and greater poverty; all makes me rather hope he suffers more than 'mild' symptoms and starts to take the deaths and ongoing suffering of many hundreds of thousands of the people he is allegedly leading more seriously.
Sorry, but it's just his behaviour in "March and April" that did it for you? So putting immigrant children in cages wasn't a problem? Trying over and over again to cancel health care was NBD? Prostrating himself at the feet of multiple dictators while alienating allies and trying to disable NATO, as well as pulling out of the Paris Agreement was ok-fine? The fact that he can't articulate a single domestic or international policy is acceptable? What about before the election, when he claimed he could grab women "by the pussy" and rudely imitated a disabled journalist on camera? You were good with that, then, but not the recent stuff?
Frazzled13 · 03/10/2020 06:40

I’m not hoping he’ll die.
It’s just that if he does, I won’t care (beyond the mess it will cause of the election).

cheeseycharlie · 03/10/2020 06:46

It's just a normal human reaction. Most people felt the same. Don't beat yourself up about it. The Germans even have a word for this feeling: schadenfreude (sp?) it's just totally normal!

cheeseycharlie · 03/10/2020 06:49

@Ohtherewearethen are you in my head?! Smile

Imbc · 03/10/2020 06:57

I’m not wishing for him to die but I don’t care if he does.

IHateCoronavirus · 03/10/2020 06:58

I like to think I am a good person, I never kill other living creatures, even the slugs that eat my plants! The rotters.
But my first reaction yesterday when DH told me was not one of concern or sadness. Do I wish death upon him? No, but do I think the world would be a better place without him in it? 100% yes.

OlympicProcrastinator · 03/10/2020 07:03

Totally agree with this. Those who wish ill on him are no better than he is

Yes because thoughts are every bit as bad as the actions of racism, corruption and greed that cause suffering and misery to millions. Absolutely. Me sitting here hoping he dies is equal to that. Hmm

Adoptthisdogornot · 03/10/2020 07:05

I hope he is so diminished by the illness that he can no longer function in any political capacity. I think his death would be dangerous (conspiracies, unrest, martyrdom etc). Do I wish him a speedy recovery? Hell no. Do I care if his youngest son loses his dad? No. I think about children in cages and parents dragged away from their kids for the audacity of wanting a safe life. His age and general levels of health clearly put him at greater risk of complications. Fingers crossed as far as I'm concerned, and I'm not remotely ashamed to admit it.

Maireas · 03/10/2020 07:05

The Obamas have wished them well and a speedy recovery because "we are all Americans" which I think is very magnanimous.

What the fucking actual everliving fuck?! Yes. I'm talking about Trump in relation to Covid, and his stance on Covid, because he now has Covid, but rage on, crazy person.

Rumbletumbleinmytummy · 03/10/2020 07:06

I'm sorry, but this mans willful ineptitude has cost many their lives with his bullshit views on the virus. Many Americans have died by believing his narrative, that this was a hoax virus that was made up to get DT out of the White House. They believed in their president and their rights and would remain maskless, and they did, until they died.

I cant give too many fucks about a man who has continued to sprout complete shite, with complete ignorance of scientific evidence whilst people die.

If he was to get it mildly and suffer very little, all it would do is make him worse, and the situation in the US would just get worse.

He needs to suffer so he can say how tremendously bad it was and how he was much stronger than the average man, with the best covid fighting capabilities ever seen, and how only he could dominate the virus with the best Doctors and medicines in the world, and dont forget his massive strength, and he putsmarted the virus with his massive brain, that he will start to protect his country and admit that covid really is bad, and tell people to wear masks.

keiratwiceknightly · 03/10/2020 07:09

He's an appalling man and has been a dreadful, dreadful president. But if he were to die it would decimate the election which could seriously destabilise America, and by extension the West. What we need is for him to make a decent recovery and then lose the election. That would be a far worse punishment for him than dying.

derxa · 03/10/2020 07:09

They're decent human beings
Maireas · 03/10/2020 07:13

Yes, derxa that's how to behave.

Papoy · 03/10/2020 07:20

@SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness

Probably sending him "thoughs and prayers" is the thing we should do because that is the exact thing he sends to mass shooter's victims. That phrase has became the sysyem of indiference of american politicians to the suffering of their own people. I dont think he will see the irony though....

On a general note, I was happy when Boris caught it and now happy that Trump caught it too. Hope this teach those people some humility because they see themselves above others and dont have any compassion for others. However I won't wish they die from it .... but if they die I won't feel sad. Because my sadness is reserved to the poor people who died because there weren't enough PPE in UK... the people who caught covid and died in ICE camps in USA and all those other innocent people who were meant to be protected with strong government policies.

Enough said, rant over 😊

MissEliza · 03/10/2020 07:23

It makes me angry that he will get the best medical attention in the world while some of his fellow Americans struggle to afford basic health care.

lockeddownandcrazy · 03/10/2020 07:23

i dont like him as a person, or his policies, and i think they should only treat him as they would anyone else- no special access to meds etc - but i dont wish him dead.

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 03/10/2020 07:26

Struggling with similar. I never thought I'd wish anyone dead - but - how many people have died due to him being in office and how many people will die if he gets a second term. Vulnerable and disadvantaged people. I don't like myself much at the moment for thinking like that. But...
