To think we shouldn't wish ill on Trump?

imamearcat · 03/10/2020 01:08

I must admit I'm not proud of how I felt when I heard Trump has Covid. Dislike him as much as most of us. Let's be honest, it wasn't a feeling of sadness.

But I feel a bit awful about my reaction, I would have hoped I wouldn't wish anyone ill / dead, so I'm trying to get over myself and grow up!

Is it not a really horrible thing, to be glad someone might be seriously ill / die, even if they are a cunt? He's still a person?

@echt

Realistically it might be best for the US if he did die, and he's an older man and clearly has less life ahead of him than behind, but I agree, it is not a good thing to wish someone dead

I'd buy the first part of what you said, as Trump is an utterly dreadful POTUS.

The second part, so often trotted out about elders, stinks. An elder person has fewer years to look forward to, so they should be privileged in terms of care. The younger have by the same analogy, have years ahead of them to enjoy.

I'm not entirely sure what you are getting at. My thought was that it's not unrealistic for someone to think he probably will die soon, given his age and health, and I don't see that acknowledging that as being the same as ill-wishing.

I never said I objected to ill-wishing him, as far as I'm concerned the sooner he drops off the perch, the better.

My objection was to your positioning it's OKness in terms of his age.

RizzleDrizzle · 03/10/2020 03:27

As I said on the pray for him thread

I’m wishing/praying for the right result on nov 3.

I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, I wouldn’t wish any potentially fatal illness on anyone. I certainly wouldn’t take any joy in anyone’s death.

Any way, him dying would deprive us of him seeing him leave the White House

tenredthings · 03/10/2020 03:34

It could be a hoax to avoid the debates and come back 'cured' in time for the election to show how Strong and invincible he is and reinforce his argument that it's just a mild flu.

I wish he did really have it and that it would incapacitate him enough to make him retire.

Good thing I didn't do that, I guess.
liverbird10 · 03/10/2020 03:57

The only concern I have is that Pence, who would take over, is even crazier than Trump.

Couldn't care less if either of them departed this earth.

echt · 03/10/2020 03:58

But you did:

and he's an older man and clearly has less life ahead of him than behind

ZiggyStarburst · 03/10/2020 04:01

People are horrible and the righteous are the worst. Look at this thread.

Of course we should hope he and his wife recover. It is not the same thing as hoping he wins the election.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/10/2020 04:02

Wishing him dead makes ME a bad person. Fuck that.

I have been kind and gracious about Margaret Thatcher amongst others. Patience of a bloody saint, me. The only person I've ever been slightly less than gracious is George Bush Senior. I didn't wish him dead. I do want people to remember Central and South America when they mourn.

People love him, regardless of his public life. At the end, we are all alone and scared. And compassion is important.

Nandocushion · 03/10/2020 04:02

I live in the USA and every single day I see firsthand the misery his incompetence, idiocy, greed, corruption and callousness have caused people here, and what his devotion to division is doing to this country. I don't give a toss how many children he has or how old they are - I and millions of others will be extremely happy and relieved if this illness carts him off. Sadly, I doubt it will.

liverbird10 · 03/10/2020 04:05

I don't wish him dead, to add to my earlier post, but I wouldn't shed a tear, that's for sure.

Pretending you genuinely give a shit is a bit "holier than thou".

liverbird10 · 03/10/2020 04:08

...and also fake as hell.

RosyPickle · 03/10/2020 04:08

I actually think him dying is the worst possible outcome. Can you imagine the conspiracy theories? The reaction from some of his far right supporters? There would be bloodshed and political chaos with potentially far reaching consequences.

mayflowerapplepie · 03/10/2020 04:11

HE seemed to feel that the elderly were expendable so he is just reaping what he sowed. Plus sometimes someone has to die to save the lives of thousands more. I don’t know quite how I feel about that. I don’t particularly wish him dead I can’t say I would be bothered. Apart from the youngest all his children appear to be almost as bad as him so sympathy there is also hard...
I wonder how many people thought Saddams death or Osamas was worth it (in dubious circumstances) to save many lives

mayflowerapplepie · 03/10/2020 04:12

Also he has caused the deaths of THOUSANDS of people from this exact disease so I am not going to suddenly say HE should be spared...

weepingwillow22 · 03/10/2020 04:22

If it is a choice between Trump dying and lots of other people dying as a result of his actions I would chose the former. I would say that makes me a utilitarian rather than a bad person.

See the trolly problem

eaglejulesk · 03/10/2020 04:24

I don't care for him but think anyone who wishes ill on another human who is ill is the lowest of the low.
I think many people thinking they are clever or cool in being negative about him have just shown their true colours

Totally agree with this. Those who wish ill on him are no better than he is.

joystir59 · 03/10/2020 04:28

He probably doesn't have the virus who really knows if he does or how ill he is. I don't know him and couldn't wish him ill just because he is a republican political figure. I wouldn't wish anyone ill. Too much self respect.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 03/10/2020 04:31

Is he a good father though? I mean, the boy would be sad if his father died of course, and I wouldn't wish that on him personally - but he'd probably have a better life eventually without that malign influence in it.

Now I'm even more horrible than you, and I'm not really that bothered. ;)

Andylion · 03/10/2020 04:32

@JunkCrumpet

I disagree with him on everything and dislike him greatly. But the people wishing him dead are nasty, nasty people. It's commonly said that you can see a man's true colours on a first date by how they treat the waiting staff, not how they treat you - it's the same situation here. People who wish someone dead (especially a person they don't actually know) because they disagree with their politics or beliefs or even because they think they're a bad person, are not people who should be trusted.
WTF? Disagreeing with his politics? He is a fucking dangerous tyrant.

For the record, I want him to recover. And then lose the election in a spectacularly humiliating fashion.

cbt944 · 03/10/2020 04:42

I still have fond memories of him as The Donald doing his show Celebrity Apprentice. He was a bit of a cock then, at times, too. But his callousness and flippancy back in March and April while they were pouring bodies into refrigerated trucks as the New York City morgues were too full, and as its overwhelmed and improperly equipped with PPE hospital staff, as well as whole neighbourhoods of Black and Hispanic Americans, were dying helplessly; and his continued ridiculing of medical advice and anyone urging him to take matters seriously, and geeing up his fanbase to break lockdowns, causing more outbreaks and more unnecessary and painful deaths, as well as lingering after effects, and greater poverty; all makes me rather hope he suffers more than 'mild' symptoms and starts to take the deaths and ongoing suffering of many hundreds of thousands of the people he is allegedly leading more seriously.

LadyLoungeALot · 03/10/2020 04:58

I do not wish him ill health or harm. I do not wish that on anybody. He also has a child who is just 14 years old. No 14 year old should lose a parent.
YANBU.

squeekums · 03/10/2020 04:58

I have no issue with my moral compass wishing ill on the likes of trump
He deserves no sympathy
He has never given any, he wouldn't even know what it meant

LadyLoungeALot · 03/10/2020 04:59

Meant to add- by not wishing him ill, doesn't mean I care. I am indifferent.
