To think we shouldn't wish ill on Trump?

imamearcat · 03/10/2020 01:08

I must admit I'm not proud of how I felt when I heard Trump has Covid. Dislike him as much as most of us. Let's be honest, it wasn't a feeling of sadness.

But I feel a bit awful about my reaction, I would have hoped I wouldn't wish anyone ill / dead, so I'm trying to get over myself and grow up!

Is it not a really horrible thing, to be glad someone might be seriously ill / die, even if they are a cunt? He's still a person?

@Ohtherewearethen thanks for that beautiful post Flowers

Buggedandconfused · 03/10/2020 07:28

He’s dangerous, a white supremacist and a narcissist. If past divisive, dangerous leaders had been struck down the world might have been a happier place. I’ve no sympathy for a racist, sorry.

b0redb0redb0red · 03/10/2020 07:32

I want to see him in prison, not dead. I also think that his death could be the worst case scenario - partly because someone equally malevolent but more superficially competent could fill the vacuum, and partly because all the conspiracy theorist idiots have already been stoked into a frenzy and there would probably be violence in response to his “murder”.

But the thing is that people been living in a state of terror for months and months. I have friends in the US who are absolutely fucking terrified of what will happen to them and their loved ones if Trump gets another term. We can split hairs all day long over whether Trump meets the definition of “fascist” but his administration is looking pretty sinister right now on a lot of fronts. And that’s not including the possibility that he could kill many more in a second term out of sheer spite and stupidity.

I can’t blame people who believe that Trump poses an actual existential threat to them, their families and their country for feeling that it would be a relief if he died.

differentnameforthis · 03/10/2020 07:39

Of course he doesn't deserve to be sick.. my only reaction was "maybe now he will stop denying it exists" because I try not to wish ill (physically or emotionally) on anyone.

Tellmetruth4 · 03/10/2020 07:40

I kind of feel like Melania when she visited the caged kids

Agree. As a black woman his supporters couldn't care less if I died, (I should have complied or mind the company I keep). This couldn't have happened to a nicer person, death's too good for him

Mummadeeze · 03/10/2020 07:51

I think this is the first time in my life also that I have struggled to find any good in a person. Even serial killers sometimes get my sympathy because of the awful upbringing they have suffered or similar. But Trump just seems to be a really awful human being. I have not read or heard one even small redeeming feature or an instance where he has been kind. Is he a good father? I hope so, and if so, I will be able to turn around my thoughts of wishing him harm, but at the moment the option of getting him out of office in any way possible is by far the most appealing one. I don’t feel comfortable with my feelings of being relieved to hear he has Covid either as I try not to wish ill on anyone. But he has made so many people’s lives worse, it is a really tough one.

Tellmetruth4 · 03/10/2020 07:51

I despise him but I don’t want him dead, I want him to recover then be jailed and stripped of his cash when he’s officially bankrupted for the 8th time for failure to repay $400m in loans when they are due in 3 years as well as the multiple lawsuits coming left and right.

Maybe the Proud Boys can start a just giving page for him and visit him a his family of grifters in jail (hopefully Ivanka’s going down for fraudulently receiving $750k).

Pence is worse than Trump unless you enjoy Handmaiden wear and support end of days fundamentalist Christianity.

HoboSexualOnslow · 03/10/2020 07:58

He's a white supremacist & sexual predator. I couldn't give a fuck if he died a horrible death, just as he doesn't give a fuck about anyone that isn't a straight white male.

Agreed
chunkyrun · 03/10/2020 08:01

I don't get the animosity. Wouldn't wish it on anyone

FudgeBrownie2019 · 03/10/2020 08:03

I don't ill-wish anyone.

I simply don't feel it necessary to cheerlead someone who has systematically encouraged hate and unkindness in a position that should (or could) enable him to bring some goodies to the world. It's perfectly possible to acknowledge that he's a piece of shit whilst also hoping he recovers enough to be jailed.

GeorgeDavidson · 03/10/2020 08:05

Is it 208k Americans dead now? And he’s defunded WHO too? The world would be better off without him as president. However it happens.

BrazenlyDefying · 03/10/2020 08:13

As per usual, Barack Obama shows utter class with his tweets:

"Michelle and I hope that the President, First Lady, and all those affected by the coronavirus around the country are getting the care they need and are on the path to a speedy recovery.
Obviously, we’re in the midst of a big political battle right now, and while there’s a lot at stake, let’s remember that we’re all Americans. We’re all human beings. And we want everyone to be healthy, no matter our party."

Every time he opens his mouth (or goes on social media) he shows Trump up for the numpty that he is. But you can still think he's an utter numpty, and hope he makes a swift recovery.

Velvian · 03/10/2020 08:13

It feels very uncomfortable, but the world would be a better place without him in it.

Dozer · 03/10/2020 08:19

Dislike the ‘whatever you think about his politics’ line.

Trump’s ‘politics’ include explicit racism, sexism (including boasting about sexual assault), xenophobic, antidemocratic, corruption etc.

GeorgeDavidson · 03/10/2020 08:21

If he survives perhaps it will actually change him for the better in some way? He might stop pretending it doesn’t really exist, Or that it isn’t dangerous and infectious. He might stop calling it ‘kungflu’ and saying it’s no worse than flu.

moomoogalicious · 03/10/2020 08:24

Unfortunately it is unlikely he will die as this is a total farce.

peboh · 03/10/2020 08:33

You are right op. I would never wish ill on him. I don't agree with him on anything really, and I believe he deserves to go to prison however prison for being a shitty person doesn't equate to death.

derxa · 03/10/2020 08:36

What a way to live your life. Calm down
crankysaurus · 03/10/2020 08:39

I'd rather he died in prison.

HelpMeh · 03/10/2020 08:39

I don't wish him dead. But I wouldn't care if if he died. At all. 🤷‍♀️

I'm not a very nice person though and this principle applies to many more than just Trump.

Porcupineinwaiting · 03/10/2020 08:39

God if people could find just a fraction of the concern they feel over Trump for his myriad of victims. Do you think he lies awake at night worrying about not feeling enough for all the people his bungling ineptitude has killed ? (hint; they are largely BAME, he doesnt care at all)

Saratustra78 · 03/10/2020 08:48

I believe in the right of wishing someone’s death, I wasn’t always like this but I think at some point it’s just naive. You don’t affect the outcome anyway. It’s not about disagreement about politics or him being the worst c*nt on the planet, it’s rather about putting tiny children in cages separated from mothers as a dissuasion technique for potential immigrants. Some children died.
Just one example (the worst, but there’re more) of not the kind of person he is, but the kind of real life effects he inflicts on the wider community.

CaptainBrickbeard · 03/10/2020 08:49

I really don’t understand how anyone thinks you can take the politics out of this. The President of the US is ill in a global pandemic a month before an election that has ramifications for the rest of the world, not just America.

This isn’t like hearing an old boss you hated or a neighbour you fell out with has Covid and saying to yourself that you wish them well, we’re all human etc etc. Whatever happens to Trump now will affect millions of lives. It’s utterly vacuous to spout platitudes about him being a father or whatever. This is significant beyond one man’s illness.

He has minimised the pandemic and encouraged reckless behaviour from the start. His poor handling of the crisis has directly cost an enormous number of lives. Should he recover easily, this will only fuel his discrediting of the virus and cost more lives, causing huge suffering across America.

If the other extreme happens and he dies right before the election, it creates unprecedented upheaval and chaos. The electoral system isn’t prepared for this. It’s not as simple as Pence stepping up politically and in terms of the emotional response in an already extremely charged and volatile situation - it’s frightening to think of.

You can’t separate the man from the politics in this case. It goes far beyond the moral rights and wrongs of wishing harm on someone.
