To ask if giving a false phone number is a thing?

DuckyMcDuck · 01/10/2020 18:31

Went to a cafe with a friend, we sat outside but she was asked for her phone number. Once we sat down, she admitted that she always gives a false number and so does everyone she knows.

Is this really a common thing? I haven't been in places very much but have always given my number when asked.

Disgusting attitude but that's how some people feel

Give over. How many people are seriously going to call their boss up and call in sick because you got a take away coffee and someone unsure of the time frame means you get a call eveb though you may not have eveb been there at the same time.

Its bad enough with kids getting sent home left right and centre without quarantining cos you got petrol.

emilyfrost · 01/10/2020 19:28

Anyone giving out a fake number is selfish and inconsiderate, and they’re putting everyone else at risk.

If you’re not willing to give your real details then you shouldn’t be going anywhere that requires them.

GeologyRox · 01/10/2020 19:28

And what if the number you give happens to be someone elses real number?

Well that just doesn't matter does it because it doesn't affect them at all. Other people being collateral damage for someone else's ego and "right" to go and do whatever they please is an acceptable risk when you have nothing to lose.

Boobissue · 01/10/2020 19:28

More concerned with keeping a roof over my families head then saving the world One person at a time

More concerned with going to the pub or cafe you mean!

rosie1959 · 01/10/2020 19:29

[quote Boobissue]**@rosie1959* as your daughter is not one of @Potterpotterpotter* friends or family it really doesn't matter!

Young fit people have been extremely ill or have died you obviously dont care a shit about anybody to have an attitude like this

ifiwasascent · 01/10/2020 19:29

Ive never heard of anyone giving false information! It's disgusting. If you don't want any chance of contracting Covid then DONT GO OUT! Absolute selfish fucking twats

MiriamMargo · 01/10/2020 19:30

I despair !!!! There really are some proper dummies on here, they are not selling insurance they are trying to slow a pandemic !!!!

lifesalongsong · 01/10/2020 19:30

If you're giving your details at the petrol station someone is ready doing it wrong, why would that happen?

nosswith · 01/10/2020 19:30

It is disgraceful but I am not surprised if there are people doing this. They are only following the example of Dominic Cummings 'testing his eyesight'.

MummytoCSJH · 01/10/2020 19:31

I give my landline. It IS my number - but I don't have a phone plugged in nor will I ever.

Lolwhat · 01/10/2020 19:31

I also give a fake number, especially when they have my email address

Georgyporky · 01/10/2020 19:31

So, someone invented/used my mobile number & I got lots of grief.

I was not believed when I denied being anywhere near a certain establishment in a place I've never even heard of. The T&T caller was quite nasty & threatening. I remembered I had actually been in a shop near the time, found the receipt & was able to quote a till reference for a purchase.

There was no apology from Mr. Nasty.

lifesalongsong · 01/10/2020 19:33

@Paul72

I give my correct number but I wonder how Track & Trace prove who they are. If they phone how do they prove they are not a scam call? I had a call from BT today, my phone line is not with BT. I've had calls from Microsoft but despite me hanging up my computer still works. How do Track & Trace prove they are genuine?
How would scammers know where you'd been and when and even if they did somehow find out what would be the purpose of the scam other than devilment

If a scammer gets hold of your details they'd be trying to gain somehow surely rather than randomly telling strangers to isolate.

ilovesooty · 01/10/2020 19:34

If there are many entitled people like @Potterpotterpotter around it will keep me out of a lot of public places. The brazen selfishness of it is dreadful imo.

Chloemol · 01/10/2020 19:34

She’s a twat. Ok in normal times, but not at the moment

RichardMarxisinnocent · 01/10/2020 19:35

I don’t have any vulnerable friends or family members
Do your friend and family have contact with vulnerable people? Do you have friends and family who you would like to continue to be able to spend time with? Would you be happy for the government to introduce restrictions preventing you from seeing friends and family? Or restrictions which close down non essential busineses again? Because that's what could happen if you catch and spread covid, contributing to case numbers rising.

emilyfrost · 01/10/2020 19:35

@Potterpotterpotter If you “can’t afford” to take two weeks off to self isolate then you have two options:

a) sort out your finances so you have savings
b) don’t go out to pubs/cafes etc.

Perhaps if you didn’t go out so often to pubs and restaurants you’d be able to have savings in case you need to self isolate for two weeks.

They really aren't, while they might use that as an after the fact justification no one who would otherwise be happy to give their number decides not too because someone else broke a different rule.

*If you’re not willing to give your real details then you shouldn’t be going anywhere that requires them

this

Cunts.*

Or saying it's my real details but I don't have a phone plugged into it! FFS! Just as fucking cuntish!

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 01/10/2020 19:40

I don’t have any vulnerable friends or family members.

Wow. Some people should have been swallowed...

jasjas1973 · 01/10/2020 19:41

Hang on! When our local pub had a CV positive customer, i thought the pub would give the paperwork to NHS TnT and we 'd all get a call telling us to isolate.... or similar
But oh no! turns out they will only do this IF the positive case has been in close contact with someone else that they can ID.

The took it upon themselves to phone everyone who was in that evening.

In other words, these forms are next to useless

Shitzngiggles · 01/10/2020 19:41

It just about sums up the selfish me me me attitude that more and more people have these days. We'll never get on top of this damn virus with people like this thinking they are above the rules. Its sickening.

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/10/2020 19:42

Why is it the the people who don't want to give out their numbers to strangers the cunts as opposed to the people who went out knowing they were sick?

Shouldn't the anger be aimed at them and they the ones told to stay out of cafes and pubs and the other businesses doing it, rather than the ones who are rightly suspicious of handing over private information when they realky dont have any idea what they arw doing with it
