To ask if giving a false phone number is a thing?

Went to a cafe with a friend, we sat outside but she was asked for her phone number. Once we sat down, she admitted that she always gives a false number and so does everyone she knows.

Is this really a common thing? I haven't been in places very much but have always given my number when asked.

Report to whom ? Is it a police matter ?

i've been in many restaurants recently and I'd say only 50 % are compliant with T and T. The pub on Friday was rammed in the garden and people coming and going and absolutely no signing in with details. It's not a pub I've been to before so I don't know if it it's a one off or not.

MushMonster · 04/10/2020 19:27

@ManaxiousCat
They close them down if they do get inspected and have nothing to show.

It cannot be that difficult to leave ones details or scan the code. And for the pub to keep the book with the details closed and out of reach.

ManxiousCat · 04/10/2020 19:28

@MushMonster. I agree, but there was neither option in either pub

whatsyournamenow · 04/10/2020 19:45

To your local council @ManxiousCat, google gives a vast amount of information on things like this.

If we don't stop these illegal acts, then the spread and the inconvenience to us all will just keep on and on.

My friend tested positive Tuesday (took the test on Saturday so 8 days ago) T&T still haven't contacted friend for their contacts so it's completely pointless now. The whole system is flawed

MushMonster · 04/10/2020 20:37

@ManxiousCat I got that from your post.

Sorry the second bit of my post was for the general thread, mainly to those who refuse to do it rightSad

My dd has had exactly the same experience. Was in a pub the night before it was shut down because 3 staff had tested positive for cv. She had checked in with the app and has heard absolutely nothing. Pointless!
ineedaholidaynow · 04/10/2020 23:32

Hasn't there been a technical hitch with cases. They were saying on the news that although people with positive test results were told a number of them weren't logged properly in the system, so previously not shown in the figures and also not given to T&T. Affected about 16,000 cases.

'I cant afford two weeks off work if someone in same cafe as me gets a positive test. So yes l always give a false number. However l also get tested at work weekly. It's a risk assesment l choose to do'.

Lovely. So if you test positive, no one in the places you have been to can be informed so they aren't putting others at risk.

FFS people. If you really can't afford to self isolate, stay at home and save the money you're spending while out until you have a safety net, don't ignore the rules and put others at risk.
I think it's a case of reversing that old saying-if they had a brain they'd be less dangerous.

Yes, I expect with such an open and caring attitude, anyone you know will be sure to share their health concerns and diagnoses with you.

@NachoNachoMan

Okay I read that first post very wrong - I thought you meant giving her number to people asking her out 😂🤷🏼‍♀️
Me too, I was gonna say I've given fake numbers for years 😂
whatsyournamenow · 05/10/2020 07:34

I am glad to see the majority realise it's wrong to give incorrect information.

I think the few empty vessels making lots of noise in this thread are making it look like lots of people are doing this, but when you actually read the posts, most people are genuinely taking it seriously and abiding by the law.

I'm still shocked at being called fucking thick and an idiot for not a ring illegally though.

I find that really shocking. Ok you want to break the law, you know it's wrong, everyone knows breaking the law is wrong but to actually make call people for sticking to it is unbelievable.

Janevaljane · 05/10/2020 08:22

Again, it would be very interesting if mumsnet had an uptick button. I suspect the 'noise' might be a little louder than you think.

Playingchesswithpigeons · 05/10/2020 17:49
@Playingchesswithpigeons I don't know if there is any evidence that the T&T scheme is selling phone nos. I'd be very surprised.

People go on about privacy but if you or anyone has ever bought anything online, food, clothes, anything on Amazon or Ebay your name, tel nos and address is out there. Most of the companies have a hidden opt-out clause for people to opt out of them passing on your details, but often it's part of the T&Cs that you can't. It's far more likely your details were found that way.
Have a google for Martin Lewis. His details were passed on. As have mine.
It's not what I think, It's what I know, because of how very careful I am. I have set an additional account for purchases, have done for years .I used my personal email for T&T that I've also had for years. It is this one and still is this one, where I'm now getting spammed.

Mum2jenny · 05/10/2020 20:47

I’ve set up a complete separate account for t&t so I will know if they’ve sold my details and then will be v pissed off.
