Do you make an effort? What do you wear?

I would feel silly wearing a full on work dress on Zoom (sad that they have hung in my wardrobe for 6 months!) but I do like to make sure I’m wearing a nice top, jumper, jewellery etc. and always have a bit of make up on (not as much as I used to in the office!)

Looking for some ideas of other outfits that are both comfy but will look nice on video!

I know some people might not care but I’m in a senior corporate role and used to pride myself on always being well groomed, fresh and put together in the office - I can feel myself slipping into just lazy clothes as we go into winter! I find just putting perfume on makes such a different to how I feel!

I am not working from home but DH is. He wears lounge pants and t-shirt most days. Occasionally he puts on something loud like a Hawaiian shirt for video calls and sometimes he wears a hat.

DinoGreen · 29/09/2020 09:05

Nooooo. I am a lawyer and I am sitting right now working in joggers, a hoodie, slippers, no make up and my hair needs a wash. Not having to get properly dressed is the best thing about wfh!

I do make myself look presentable if I know I have a video call, but most of my work with clients is over the phone.

I have started going back to the office 2 days a week though and it is quite nice to get dressed in proper office clothes after 6 months of this very casual ensemble.

ErickBroch · 29/09/2020 09:06

Charity sector - always pretty casual dress anyway but now i am mainly wearing pj bottoms and a variety of t-shirts on calls! No make up and hair thrown up.

MyNameForToday1980 · 29/09/2020 09:11

I have two modes of dress for every occasion (except black tie), smart casual, or lounge wear. I switch between the two depending on how many video calls (and with whom) I have.

Few, or internal only calls: I'll wear harem pants, a silk shirt over a camisole, woolly socks and leg warmers (don't worry, no one can see the leg warmers, it I bloody love them).

Many or external calls: black dress from Cos, jewelry, bright tights.

I always have a shower because I'm a grease monger and look minging if I don't.

ZoeTurtle · 29/09/2020 09:13

PJ bottoms and T-shirts. I only make an effort (i.e. PJ bottoms and a nice top) for client meetings.

Totickleamockingbird · 29/09/2020 09:15

Office tops, pyjama bottoms. Grin

Plump82 · 29/09/2020 09:16

Black leggings for me, a warmish jumper, then i have a big cosy coatigan and boot slippers. Im always freezing so its warmth and comfort for me. I let my hair air drybas well and wear no makeup. But will make an effort if i know i have a video call but thankfully they're rare!

HariboLectar · 29/09/2020 09:17

Leggings and hoodies for me when I can be arsed to change out of my PJs I avoid video calls where possible Grin

ClaudiaWankleman · 29/09/2020 09:22

I just wear casual stuff - usually a t shirt and comfy trousers.

I have refused to have my camera on since about April, but I generally look acceptable as I always get up and shower and get 'ready' before I first log on. I don't judge those who shower mid way through the day - it just isn't in my nature.

My colleagues all seem to dress similarly to me.

ShaunaTheSheep · 29/09/2020 09:22

Just normal clothes - jeans or something stretchy, t shirt jumper or hoodie, fluffy socks. Don’t get the angst tbh.

Yep that’s me too. I shower every morning but have only worn make up and blow dried my hair a handful of times since March!
MJMG2015 · 29/09/2020 09:27

@MyNameForToday1980.

Leg warmers... I stand transportation to my teenage years. Thank you for that! 😊

@GoodMorningLondon.

Leggings & t-shirt. But no client calls. If I did I'd just sling a linen shirt on top of (or instead of) my t shirt & re brush my hair (looks a mess after 5 minutes) they'd die of shock if I wore make up!

MyNameForToday1980 · 29/09/2020 09:34

Leg warmers are brilliant @mjmg2015 I wear them most days from September to April... They seriously keep your whole body warm. And they're pretty joyous to wear. I often look down at them and think "I really love these leg warmers" (little things, eh?).

GoodMorningLondon · 29/09/2020 09:35

Just me who seems to have constant video calls??

I find I feel so much more ‘on it’ if I’m wearing something nice, even if just a new jumper. I wear perfume every day and always make sure I’m showered before I log on.

Good to hear most people are dressing comfy too!!

Uniqlo do thermal legwarmers Smile - lovely cosy feet and ankles abound! Other than that, jeans/jeggings and a jersey top or fine knit for me....

GoodMorningLondon · 29/09/2020 09:38

I need to get some leg warmers!!

I wear what's comfortable. At the moment, that also includes what's warm, as I don't really want to keep the central heating on all day. I only try to smarten up my top half if I'm on a video call, and even then that might just mean putting a jumper on. I'm certainly not wasting my expensive perfume when there's no-one around to smell it.

IntermittentParps · 29/09/2020 09:39

I love leg warmers too. I'm intrigued as to how you wear them with harem pants though? (harems are another of my most-loved clothing items).

Personally I'm freelance and have worked at home for years, usually in pretty slobby clothes like leggings and a long T-shirt or jumper. Even I have felt the urge sometimes since Covid times to put on something a bit smarter though, just for variety. I wear perfume often because I find I miss it if I don't. And I try to wear jewellery, if only because I have quite a lot and don't like to think of it just sitting about instead of being worn.

I just like smelling perfume on myself Blush Maybe I am weird!!

I work in tech, so it was pretty casual anyway even in the office - so I just wear what I consider normal clothes - jeans, jumpers, t shirts/nicer tops, cardis, denim shirts, casual dresses, sometimes a skirt. The same stuff I wear at weekends.

I do gravitate towards jeggings a bit more often than stiffer jeans though

IntermittentParps · 29/09/2020 09:43

GoodMorningLondon, if so then I'm weird too! I like wearing perfume and feel that I 'smell naked' without it.

Marmite27 · 29/09/2020 09:44

PJs.

We’ve been told to turn or cameras off to save bandwidth. So it doesn’t matter.

Though we are a casual dress office, so I wear jeans, leggings or walking trousers to the office.

I’ve even been in to the office in my pjs a time or two. It’s a 24h site and if they want me to fix something at 3am, I’m not getting dressed!

Poppingnostopping · 29/09/2020 09:45

I have to appear on camera most days, so on those days I wear make up and a reasonable top although they can't really see it and I've found even black jogging top looks quite ok! I also wear perfume for my own sake. On days I don't appear on camera, I wear no make up and slobby clothes.

sapnupuas · 29/09/2020 09:46

Fairly senior professional here.

Slippers. Leggings. Vest. Comfy jumper (a Disney one today, to add to the lack of professionalism). No makeup. Dirty hair in a bun.

The only thing that changes is whether I've washed my hair or not.

Psychoseverywhere · 29/09/2020 09:47

No video calls here. I am freshly showered every morning, have done something to my hair. No makeup but always have tan on, nails done etc. I am sitting here in a hoody and work out leggings.
