Do you make an effort? What do you wear?

I would feel silly wearing a full on work dress on Zoom (sad that they have hung in my wardrobe for 6 months!) but I do like to make sure I’m wearing a nice top, jumper, jewellery etc. and always have a bit of make up on (not as much as I used to in the office!)

Looking for some ideas of other outfits that are both comfy but will look nice on video!

I know some people might not care but I’m in a senior corporate role and used to pride myself on always being well groomed, fresh and put together in the office - I can feel myself slipping into just lazy clothes as we go into winter! I find just putting perfume on makes such a different to how I feel!

I look a state, jeggings, hoodie, flip flops and worzel gummidge hair. I smarten up for Teams calls but this is my new normal

TheOrigBrave · 29/09/2020 12:11

I always get dressed (apart from the one time I was 1/2hr late for 6am zoom call and had just woken up - decided to join from my bed rather than get up, make tea etc and make myself even more late!).

What I wear depends entirely on what I am doing outside of work; sport or not. If I'm doing sport I might just throw a tracksuit on, otherwise I wear jeans and casual top, or shorts or whatever suits the weather. Right now I've got leggings, Uggs and a big hoody. I'm going running soon.

For zoom calls I suppose I am a little bit more aware, and make sure I have a bra on under a strappy vest.

I'm in academia.

LadyofMisrule · 29/09/2020 12:25

Consultant here. Quite senior. Generally a t-shirt and leggings/yoga bottoms. I put a smart top on if I'm on video conference with the directors.

I often wear perfume, though, as it feels like I'm spraying on professional armour.

CrunchyNutNC · 29/09/2020 12:50

Jeans, flat shoes, shirt/top, fleece jacket over the top if it's particularly chilly. Clean hair and face, no makeup.

I wouldn't spend the day in pyjamas/not shower & wash hair at the weekend, nevermind on a working day.

houseofhungryboys · 29/09/2020 14:11

I can WFH but may be called in at any time so need to be presentable-ish, however haven't worn make up much since lockdown and my hair never looks great. We don't have video enabled on our laptops either - bonus 😂

yelyah22 · 29/09/2020 14:56

Currently in a sweatshirt with a meme on it and black joggers. No make up, haven't showered, haven't brushed my hair. If I'm going to have video meetings with clients I'll shove a dress or nice top over the top of my joggers and put some make up on, but if it's just with our (v relaxed) office I just make sure my comfy tshirt isn't see through hahah, no makeup.

But I'm the kind of person who swaps into joggers and jumpers the second I come through the door anyway, so comfort all the way!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 29/09/2020 15:00

smart work jumper with hoodie over the top, jeans, slippers.
basic makeup so Zoom ready if needed, after ditching the hoodie. I'm not at all senior but look like a hag on my laptop camera without some makeup.

hoping4onlychild · 29/09/2020 15:02

I wear full makeup (primer, base, contour, highlighter, blush, eyeshadow, liquid liner, mascara and powder)... and my nightgown. My camera is usually switched off during teams call, i wear the makeup cos i like seeing my made up face in the mirror. It makes me feel pretty. But I don't care much about the rest of my body.

I salute you! I don't even know what primer, base, contour and highligher are!
FrankskinnerscRoc · 29/09/2020 15:24

@GoodMorningLondon, I too always wear perfume for me, certainly not for anyone else!

hoping4onlychild · 29/09/2020 15:29

@TheOrigBrave I am making up for not being allowed to experiment with makeup in my teens :) I think most dermatologists would advise women to give their skin a break and not wear makeup when working from home, but i need a little something to separate day from night.

I can't bear the thought of wearing proper clothes, whereas you can't really feel makeup on your face.

imissthesouth · 29/09/2020 15:40

TBH I've still been dressing up more formal so I feel in "work mode" I'm back part time in the office though so just dress more comfortably at home. At the start I didn't get dressed most days until after work when I had to go out😳

Venicelover · 29/09/2020 16:12

Comfortable black trousers and plain shirts worn over. I always shower, wash my hair and put on make up and wear earrings and a chunky gold chain. I spend my day on zoom and teams in a senior role and I need to feel in work mode! I definitely couldn't not wear a bra all day either.

AramintaLee · 29/09/2020 16:18

Honestly? 80% loungewear, 20% PJs depending on the day.

Thesheerrelief · 29/09/2020 16:43

I have video calls every day and find I'm a bit more switched on if I'm in smartish attire. So today it's jeans, nice patterned shirt, light makeup and earrings

ohnothisagain · 29/09/2020 18:23

I tend to wear my normal dresses but with leggings instead of tights. On teams calls most days, and looking scruffy is really not an option.

Sloth66 · 29/09/2020 18:32

My wfh days I wear jeans and thick sweaters
Really enjoying dressing down, feels v relaxed

Plussizejumpsuit · 29/09/2020 18:56

I wear leggings and a t shirt or sweater. In warmer weather it was a summer dress or jumpsuit. So you are putting way more effort in than me op!

StCharlotte · 29/09/2020 22:46

I wfh the "first time round". Secretarial so smart but not corporate. I stuck to my morning routine including hair, make up and work clothes every day so I felt like I was "going to work". No video calls at all. When I went back to work, people in the office were in shorts and Hawaiian shirts Grin

I may be wfh again soon and this time I'll be a bit more casual. Probably leggings or cosy skirts with tunics or smart cardigans or sweaters. And Uggs. I'll still be doing hair and make up though (although make up is only mascara and lipstick).

madcatladyforever · 29/09/2020 22:49

Smart shirt and jacket for zoom meetings.......pyjama bottoms. No shoes.

madcatladyforever · 29/09/2020 22:50

You have to have some standards Grin

MY WFH wardrobe is the same as my office wardrobe, but we wear casual clothes in the office anyway. I wear jeans and a smartish top. I do normally wear a bit of makeup.

itallwentwrongat30 · 30/09/2020 10:15

I bought a load of £5 fleece lined leggings online at the start of lockdown and have been living in those and comfy jumpers..... I dread the day I need to wear actual jeans again

emmathedilemma · 30/09/2020 10:17

Between my own company and clients I haven't seen anyone wearing anything smarter than a polo shirt or maybe a simple top for the ladies.
I don't wear make up to the office so no change there! There's a lot of hoodies and fleeces! I try to limit PJs to fridays only ;)
