Currently blocked in by police car

Police are visiting someone on my street for some reason and have parked behind me in my very long narrow drive. Haven't asked if they can park there. Lots of space on the road to park however they would be on double yellows. If I needed to go anywhere, I wouldn't be able to move. No idea which house they're in. I need to go out in 35 minutes for a flu jab appointment. I know they could be dealing with a serious emergency but no idea why they're parked on my drive! WIBU to drive very slowly backwards and gently nudge their car off my drive? (Only kidding). Slightly miffed. Should I try and find them and ask them to move?

See if you can identify which house they are in and ask very politely if they can move. If not try 111 and again ask if they can contact them and ask them to move so you can go out for an important appointment.

Nacreous · 27/09/2020 17:44

I think I would give it 10-15 minutes while I got totally ready to go to see if they just left, and then go and see if I could see them. It's really hard because you don't want to miss your flu jab (especially this year!) but obviously you don't know what they're in the middle of!

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 17:45

Exactly. I'm a bit torn and think it must be fairly serious if they've chosen to park on my drive without having the time to ask! Can't get through to the pharmacy who are doing my flu jab and no answerphone. It is pretty bad though thinking about it as if I had my own emergency I would be stuck.

Take a photo and email the station!! Hardly a good role model for cf parking!!

TheQueef · 27/09/2020 17:46

Uber.

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 17:47

@thequeef sadly uber don't operate in my city. Also, I don't really have money to be spending on taxis.

call the police station

user12533685436 · 27/09/2020 17:48

If you do end up having to speak to them make sure you're suitably deferential and simpering otherwise you may find them slagging you off on Twitter for daring to speak to them while they are on police business.

The fact they blocked you in unnecessarily does lead more towards them being the kind of copper who is a bully and used to throwing their power around.

gnomeisland · 27/09/2020 17:48

Just to say I'm seriously impressed that you live somewhere that offers flu jabs on a Sunday evening!

PullTheBricksDown · 27/09/2020 17:49

What @Lovelydovey said. Take a photo so you have proof if you need to discuss it later or don't manage to get to your jab.

TokyoSushi · 27/09/2020 17:49

I'd go and see if I could figure out where they were and very politely explain why they need to move.

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 17:50

@gnomeisland two of the pharmacies near me are doing them 8-8 7 days a week!

I see the acab crew are out tonight.

It could just be that the had nowhere else to park and were in a hurry. They've not necessarily done it to just be an arsehole.

Terrace58 · 27/09/2020 17:50

Call the non emergency line and explain the situation. If it’s not an emergency, the officer can move the car. If it is an emergency, you may just miss your appointment, but at least you will have tried.

If they do move the car upon your request leave immediately Even if it means you arrive early to your destination.

DeliciouslyFemale · 27/09/2020 17:50

With sims of the videos I’ve seen of how some police react to having their ‘authority’ questioned, I’d switch my phone on record and carry it in my hand, if I was going to speak to them. If there’s plenty of parking on the street, I don’t see how it would be quicker to park in your drive. Phone none emergency and simply ask if it is an emergency or routine call. Explain that you have an essential appointment.

Yugi · 27/09/2020 17:50

Call 111, it goes to local police force. Just say you need to go out and ask if they can let you out. If they can’t they’ll tell you

TheQueef · 27/09/2020 17:51

Any number of things could have happened to extend their stay, no need to be so quick to escalate it.

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 17:51

@jorisbonson the whole street is double yellows and there is nobody parked there. Imagine if I had a night shift to go to or had a child to pick up.

I'm on hold to the police station.

They’ve parked on someone’s drive without their permission and are causing an obstruction, hurry or not that’s not acceptable.
gnomeisland · 27/09/2020 17:52

lasangoles that's great service.

There's nothing here at all. Local GP running one clinic for the vulnerable at end of October.

Hope you manage to get there on time. Is it close enough to walk or use public transport?

VettiyaIruken · 27/09/2020 17:53

What does acab mean?

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 27/09/2020 17:53

Don't call 111, the NHS ain't gonna make them move. 101 is the number if needed.
lasangoles · 27/09/2020 17:53

It means all cops are bastards. It's not a nice term. I have some amazing police officer friends. Definitely not bastards!
