Currently blocked in by police car

Police are visiting someone on my street for some reason and have parked behind me in my very long narrow drive. Haven't asked if they can park there. Lots of space on the road to park however they would be on double yellows. If I needed to go anywhere, I wouldn't be able to move. No idea which house they're in. I need to go out in 35 minutes for a flu jab appointment. I know they could be dealing with a serious emergency but no idea why they're parked on my drive! WIBU to drive very slowly backwards and gently nudge their car off my drive? (Only kidding). Slightly miffed. Should I try and find them and ask them to move?

I would be furious. I haven't been able to book a flu jab in the first place ... but to have to give up an appointment !!!

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 18:33

Choosing not to get too annoyed about it. They're still there. Will speak to them when they come back to the car as I'm just a bit curious to know why they parked there!

I came on to suggest you steal the police car (I'm not anti law and order or anything, its just it would plainly be the most logical solution, and also the one most likely to lead to the most interesting evening for all involved). But I see you resolved it differently.

WINDOLENE · 27/09/2020 18:34

Emergency services do not need permission to park

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 18:34

Nope, no stealing of cars.

OP posts:
HardJustGotHarder · 27/09/2020 18:36

They didnt ask.
Call 111....
Call the non emergency number.
Ring the local police station
Take photos

You lot are kidding right???

ChaChaCha2012 · 27/09/2020 18:39

If they're still there after an hour, you can assume it's for a good reason.

Stop thinking about what ifs and gets on with your evening.

HaggieMaggie · 27/09/2020 18:40
@oddboots I would also argue that its not safe to block someone in on their drive without knowing whether they are going to be dependant on their car that evening.

I've spoken to the police station who have said they shouldn't be parked on my drive and that it's a misunderstanding. They're going to contact them.
Misunderstanding? What did they not understand, entitled sods. Emergency fine, but they would surely abandon their car on double yellows closest to the spot. I would complain, never an ambulance but a copper parked on my drive?

RunningFromInsanity · 27/09/2020 18:43

Wouldn’t you go out, beep your horn a bit and stand by the car so they can see you?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 27/09/2020 18:44

Can you get a friend to park behind them and block them in?

Rhine · 27/09/2020 18:44
@Rhine. Wow. Let's hope you're never in the situation where you need the police ASAP and they're not there straight away because they're trying to find somewhere to park...
What gives them the right to block someone else in though?

Snackasaurus · 27/09/2020 18:45

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats oh yes, fantastic idea. Block them in so they can't deal with any other emergencies or incidents 🙄

Permanentlypuzzled · 27/09/2020 18:48

Let their tyres down.

Gin4thewin · 27/09/2020 18:49

Sure there would have been an equal amount of outcry from some people on here if theyd parked on double yellows instead. Cant ever win🤷‍♀️

millymae · 27/09/2020 18:51

Why should anyone be kidding Hard I’d be bloody furious if they’d parked on my drive and blocked me in, irrespective of whether I had anywhere to go. Nothing can be that urgent that they have to park on someone’s drive who is not involved and block them in. Where I live double yellow lines mean nothing at all - the police just drive past anyone parked on them, so I don’t see why they couldn’t have parked on the road
That said the suggestion to ring 111 made me laugh out loud- if my experience is anything to go on OP’s appointment time would have passed by the time she managed to get through.
I hope she won’t be charged for a missed appointment!

daisyjgrey · 27/09/2020 18:52

I've got a long skinny drive that people often don't realise is a driveway. I can't see the street from it so if someone blocks it (regularly) I don't see it until I'm in the car and leaving. I once left to do the school run and the highways people had dug a 3ft wide, 10ft long trench effectively building me my own moat. It was an interesting 20 minutes with them trying to build a bridge out of boards for me to drive over with a panicked look on their face.

GabsAlot · 27/09/2020 18:52

if it was an amergency wouldnt they hav e just dumped it int he middle of the road and had the lights on

if its a routine visit they shold park properly

BeingLonely · 27/09/2020 18:53

I can’t believe this thread. Who knows what type of situation the police are dealing with. They haven’t parked there out of badness. I would love to see how most of you would react if they were late attending to your emergency because they couldn’t find a suitable parking space

Dairyfine · 27/09/2020 18:53

Which pharmacy is doing flu jabs on a Sunday evening ?

ColleagueFromMars · 27/09/2020 18:55

Why the wouldn't you just knock on your neighbors' doors and find out if the police are there or if they know which property they have gone to?

It's one police car, not an armed stake out!

CakeGirl2020 · 27/09/2020 18:59

Can you get a friend to park behind them and block them in? let’s just hope nobody is caused harm as they can’t get to someone in need as they’ve been blocked in.

Honestly can’t believe this thread Call and report? Take pictures? Block them in? This is an emergency service car we are talking about

Serin · 27/09/2020 19:01

I had to call a 999 ambulance for a collapsed patient a few months ago. They blocked a narrow lane that leads only to a pub and dog walking field. Despite the pandemic (full lockdown then) 3 people came to the door to ask them to shift it.
I'm sorry you are inconvenienced OP. Did you get through to your local station? Are you quite sure it hasn't been stolen and abandoned there?

Crunchymum · 27/09/2020 19:01

Where do you live that pharmacies are open at this time on a Sunday but doesn't operate Uber? Shock

StoneofDestiny · 27/09/2020 19:02

Don't get why you didn't just knock on a few neighbours doors

Snackasaurus · 27/09/2020 19:04

@Rhine Who knows what incident they're dealing with? Maybe they had to leave the car in a hurry to get to where they needed to be. I'm sure they won't have done it for tg fun of it!
