Currently blocked in by police car

Police are visiting someone on my street for some reason and have parked behind me in my very long narrow drive. Haven't asked if they can park there. Lots of space on the road to park however they would be on double yellows. If I needed to go anywhere, I wouldn't be able to move. No idea which house they're in. I need to go out in 35 minutes for a flu jab appointment. I know they could be dealing with a serious emergency but no idea why they're parked on my drive! WIBU to drive very slowly backwards and gently nudge their car off my drive? (Only kidding). Slightly miffed. Should I try and find them and ask them to move?

@Osirus

Because it doesn’t stay at same strength in your system! So by time peak flu season.... it’s lessened significantly.

Otherwise why wouldn’t the nhs encourage a staggering of flu jabs and offer in June etc? Why? Because by peak jan / feb, much much lessened.

Optimum is Late October November

Bluesheep8 · 28/09/2020 06:53

I thought acab was a typo and they were referring to getting A CAB

So did I

Pobblebonk · 28/09/2020 08:11

So you took up the time of a 101 call handler, dealing with 1000's of people needing to speak about actual Police matters, (whilst non-emergency, are much more pressing than a bloody flu jab!) just because a Police car is temporarily blocking your drive?! Wow. Just wow.

No, the officers who parked her in took up the time of the 101 call handler.

BentBastard · 28/09/2020 08:14

Agree that taking ages is no indication of seriousness of visit. I got visited on a Sunday afternoon to take a statement regarding a hit and run I witnessed (they hit a parked car not a person). They were here ages and it would have been perfectly feasible for them to pause the statement taking and move a car if required.

But we don't know what the situation is here obviously.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 28/09/2020 08:20

Sometimes as well, I imagine the police may need to park discreetly out of sight of the address they are visiting.

BashfulClam · 28/09/2020 08:43

@natsku I was told it would take 2 weeks to be fully effective so probably best not to wait too late.

thegreylady · 28/09/2020 08:50

Dh and I had our flu jabs on Saturday morning at GP. They have started Saturday clinics specially for the jabs. We had to wait in the car, a nurse came and checked the appointment and took temps then a doctor (yes really) came and gave the injections through the car window.
Only people arriving on foot went into the surgery. We were very pleased.
None of which is relevant at all to OP’s situation!

Natsku · 28/09/2020 08:57

@BashfulClam yeah two weeks before it is effective so not good to wait until too close but also not too early. I aim to get mine in late November as that's what the nurse who does mine recommended.

CannibalQueen · 28/09/2020 09:20

Get the reg, phone the local police and ask them to radio the officers to move the car. Start thinking.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/09/2020 09:21

Sometimes as well, I imagine the police may need to park discreetly out of sight of the address they are visiting.

They could always send out an unmarked car. In fact, they might just as well commandeer a member of the public's car, just like they did OP's drive....

Other than in a dire emergency, if they need resources - such as parking - they (or a colleague) need to arrange for these as part of their job. In this case, the simple wise decision would have been to park on double yellows. Suppose they'd been running very low on petrol, they couldn't just have syphoned some out of a random homeowner's car or bilked it from the BP garage, 'because they're the police'. They should have standard procedures in place and be trained to deploy them.

myhobbyisouting · 28/09/2020 09:35

You were hospitalised with flu 2 years ago and rather than knock on your neighbours doors you gave up a flu jab that you cant rebook? Confused why?!

Jaxhog · 28/09/2020 09:45

However serious the police situation, you don't just park in someone else's drive! I'm appalled tbh.

I hope you can get your flu jab rescheduled soon.

'When is the NHS flu vaccine available?
According to the NHS, the best time to have a flu vaccine is in the autumn, starting from the beginning of October through to the end of January.

You can arrange an appointment with your GP, local pharmacy or for pregnant women, your midwife may offer the jab.

Seasonal flu is typically seen in the UK between December and March, however, outbreaks can be seen as early as October and as late as May.

This year, the Government's aim is for all those eligible to have had their vaccine by Christmas."

Maybe read the thread...?
Hearwego · 28/09/2020 10:01

This thread makes me laugh! ...I jokingly said has someone dialled 911, and some people took it literally. Ever heard of humour? Of course I know it’s the USA emergency numberHmm

Secondly, I was in the side of the OP. I didn’t say they were in the wrong. I’d be annoyed if someone blocked my car in.
Fair enough it may have been an emergency but not every call out is. It may not have been. If it was , I’m sure other Police cars would have turned up..
The police car inconvenienced the OP, she’s entitled to complain to her local station , if need be , they’d probably have a word with the officers responsible.
How would some of the people on hear like to be blocked in by a police car, if they had to get to an appointment?
As for accusing the OP of wasting 101s time, get real, it’s nit an emergency number and they prioritise what’s important or not.

People complain for much less than that, even people dial 999 because they have lost their pet cat! These people are the time wasters.

lasangoles · 28/09/2020 10:06

@myhobbyisouting I've explained in the thread exactly why.

OP posts:
TheQueef · 28/09/2020 10:11

Is the car still there?
Did you catch flu?
Did you call 846 (remember that?)

You can't win on mnet Lasang and you shouldn't even try.
A perfectly reasonable grump and a change of plans ISN'T ENOUGH.
At least call the IPCC you can't just leave it there Shock

myhobbyisouting · 28/09/2020 10:39

You haven't really at all.

You ummed and ahhed and then didn't even ask them why they'd parked there when they returned.

The simplest thing would've been to knock on a neighbours door. Particularly if you suffer with flu so badly!

lasangoles · 28/09/2020 10:49

@myhobbyisouting I really have. I didn't knock on the door because it would be shitty to interrupt then when they're potentially dealing with a dangerous situation. I think that's pretty explanatory.

I also only suffered badly with flu once when I was pregnant. Doesn't mean that I will be that ill with it again. I was just unlucky.

OP posts:
TheQueef · 28/09/2020 10:53

Dear dear.
How would the OP know which house?
Start texting neighbours have you got the rozzers in?
Knock round the usual suspects first?
Peep in the windows, check for a flash of uniform?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/09/2020 13:28

Personally, if one of my neighbours is being busted by the cops for violent criminal behaviour, I want nothing more than to bang on the neighbour's door and get myself right there in the firing line....

TheQueef · 28/09/2020 13:30

I think you can volunteer to be a covid marshal Sausage have at it! Smile

Sunnydaysstillhere · 28/09/2020 13:47

For future cf parkers may I suggest you invest in an inflatable Olaf and a small size high viz vest? ...

carbon60 · 28/09/2020 22:42

Remember, if you have to call the cops to "log" something , make sure you tell them not to DARE park on your drive!
That's the best laugh I've had in ages, thank you , thank you :-)

AntiSocialDistancer · 28/09/2020 22:50

@Afibtomyboy

Very early in season for flu jab.

Optimum is end of October / beg of November, and early in the day.

Can I ask why earlier in the day is preferable?
