Currently blocked in by police car

Police are visiting someone on my street for some reason and have parked behind me in my very long narrow drive. Haven't asked if they can park there. Lots of space on the road to park however they would be on double yellows. If I needed to go anywhere, I wouldn't be able to move. No idea which house they're in. I need to go out in 35 minutes for a flu jab appointment. I know they could be dealing with a serious emergency but no idea why they're parked on my drive! WIBU to drive very slowly backwards and gently nudge their car off my drive? (Only kidding). Slightly miffed. Should I try and find them and ask them to move?

@VettiyaIruken

What does acab mean?
All cops are baddies (to paraphrase) - not that that is my view I hasten to add.
lasangoles · 27/09/2020 17:55

@gnomeisland it really is brilliant. Can't get a bus from where I am, I'm on hold waiting for 101 to answer so they're obviously very busy! I'm going to hang up and cancel my appointment with the pharmacy if they don't pick up soon.

@Rhine

What if the officers are responding to a call of someone being hurt? Ill? A fight? Their minds will be on getting to the person in need.

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 17:57

I'm just going to cancel my jab. Never mind.

Then they could park on the road, they are highly unlikely to get a bloody parking ticket.

JorisBonson · 27/09/2020 17:58

Ok then, they've obviously parked there for no other reason than to inconvenience OP 🙄

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 18:00

If a person has blocked your driveway and is preventing you from getting your own vehicle out, this could be deemed as antisocial behaviour.

From my local force website :)

They shouldn't obstruct entries/exits. Hurry or no hurry.

OddBoots · 27/09/2020 18:02

"could be"

You would know better than us OP but I would have thought that if the whole road is double yellows it is because it isn't safe to park a car on it.

What if the OP needed to get to work or had to get to an ill relative urgently?
giantangryrooster · 27/09/2020 18:02

Activate you own car alarm and see if anyone turns up.

RincewindsHat · 27/09/2020 18:03

They're breaking the law, it's illegal to block someone from accessing the carriageway. Just saying.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 27/09/2020 18:03

Honestly, you should've just gone out and knocked on doors, found them and told them to move.

Pelleas · 27/09/2020 18:05

My husband got blocked by police vans outside his workplace following a serious RTA in the area. There was nothing they could do - he had to catch a train home and leave his car there overnight.

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 18:05

@oddboots I would also argue that its not safe to block someone in on their drive without knowing whether they are going to be dependant on their car that evening.

I've spoken to the police station who have said they shouldn't be parked on my drive and that it's a misunderstanding. They're going to contact them.

OP posts:
vanillandhoney · 27/09/2020 18:05

I can't believe people are saying it's okay.

If anyone can park on double yellows, it's the police, surely? They can't just park on someone's drive without asking permission!

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 18:06

I've cancelled my appointment now and spoken to the station so it's all handled, apart from the annoying fact that the pharmacy aren't booking anymore jabs at the moment. Hmmph. Never mind.

I thought acab was a typo and they were referring to getting A CAB Blush

" apart from the annoying fact that the pharmacy aren't booking anymore jabs at the moment. Hmmph. Never mind."

While I applaud your attitude, this is AIBU. Should you not be 'fumming' and calling the police (oh, hold on ...) or something.

I hope you can track down another flu jab soon. Do you have a Tesco or other supermarket pharmacy nearby who might have an appointment?

Just torch it?

wigglywormx · 27/09/2020 18:23

I have some amazing police officer friends. Definitely not bastards!

Do you think it could be one of your friends? Maybe just assuming you'd be going nowhere on a Sunday evening?

Thecobwebsarewinning · 27/09/2020 18:23

‘then they could park on the road, they are highly unlikely to get a bloody parking ticket.’

Lol. In some areas ( I live in an area covered by the Met) the traffic police are only too pleased to give ‘law enforcement’ police any penalty they possibly can.

Snackasaurus · 27/09/2020 18:27

@Rhine. Wow. Let's hope you're never in the situation where you need the police ASAP and they're not there straight away because they're trying to find somewhere to park...
