Currently blocked in by police car

Police are visiting someone on my street for some reason and have parked behind me in my very long narrow drive. Haven't asked if they can park there. Lots of space on the road to park however they would be on double yellows. If I needed to go anywhere, I wouldn't be able to move. No idea which house they're in. I need to go out in 35 minutes for a flu jab appointment. I know they could be dealing with a serious emergency but no idea why they're parked on my drive! WIBU to drive very slowly backwards and gently nudge their car off my drive? (Only kidding). Slightly miffed. Should I try and find them and ask them to move?

Parking on a random private driveway seems very unusual. I can only assume they wanted to be out of sight of where-ever they're visiting. But it's still crappy policing.

Maybe I'm selfish, but I think I would have leaned on the horn of my own car, and if that ends up disturbing whatever the police are doing then serves them right!

ekidmxcl · 27/09/2020 19:25

I'd be livid. You won't be able to book another flu jab. It's almost impossible at the moment.

Fluffalo · 27/09/2020 19:26

Yes that is selfish. Fucking hell I hope the people moaning on this thread don't ever phone the police if they need them.

Lollypop4 · 27/09/2020 19:28

I too would be miffed at anyone blocking my drive way, I wouldve done what you have and before cancelling appt, I would've tried finding which house they were in.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/09/2020 19:28

I’d have thought the police can park on the double yellows, but maybe not.

HeIenaDove · 27/09/2020 19:28

This happened to me back in February. I was on my way home from a grocery shopping trip in a taxi and we couldnt turn the corner into my road because a police car was parked right on that corner.

I opened my door and POLITELY asked him how long he was going to be The reply i got was "get out and walk"

a. how did i know i was able to walk?
b. i had a load of heavy shopping in the boot . i would have had to go back and forth
c. all this time i was on a meter.

His whole attitude really fucked me off. He was blocking the only route into the road.

AvoidingRealHumans · 27/09/2020 19:29

This thread is hardly police bashing.

Who wouldn't be annoyed at being blocked in on their own drive when they had an appointment?
Op clearly says there is plenty of parking, albeit double yellows but I'm sure if they got a ticket they could successfully appeal it seeing as they were on duty emergency workers.

I would be really pissed off if it were me, just because they're police doesn't mean they can do what tf they want. IF there was no alternative parking it would be a different matter.
@Rhine

What if the officers are responding to a call of someone being hurt? Ill? A fight? Their minds will be on getting to the person in need.
Well considering they are police officers they should be used to being able to cope with that without unnecessarily inconveniencing other members of the public.

JenniferSantoro · 27/09/2020 19:30

@Sunnydaysstillhere

Take a photo and email the station!! Hardly a good role model for cf parking!!
They could be attending an emergency. They don’t need to ask for permission.
CiCiFreakingBabcock · 27/09/2020 19:31

Oh my gosh, all this prattling on about acap - just be thankful there's people out there willing to do the freaking job and putting themselves on the line for us all.

FunTimes2020 · 27/09/2020 19:35

@TheQueef

Uber.
Silly suggestion. Why should she?
thenightsky · 27/09/2020 19:35

Isn't 'dog shit under the door handles' the usual MN answer?

CFs.

HeIenaDove · 27/09/2020 19:37

OP Next time someone posts on the Covid board that ppl need to get their flu jab this year to help themselves and the NHS , link this thread in and tell them you tried!

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 19:37

Genuinely did have a flu jab booked. I must be really lucky round here as there are a couple of pharmacies I know of that are doing tonnes of jabs extended hours. I thought this was happening everywhere. They are like gold dust at the moment and I am annoyed that I now can't boon another, but they're gone now. Oh well. Bottled it and didn't speak to them. Seemed a bit pointless.

OP posts:
Hearwego · 27/09/2020 19:38

Even complaining won’t actually achieve anything, and they are hardly likely to compensate the OP for a missed appointment.
OP cold have a friendly word and ask what the problem is / was if they see them leave. The police officers will either be apologetic or unsympathetic.
Either way, they did block OP in their own property and it could have been an emergency situation. Possibly they didn’t know, and we don’t know the layout of the road or OPs property.

Mangofandangoo · 27/09/2020 19:38

101 is the police non emergency number - it's shocking how many people are suggesting you call 111

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 19:38

Sorry for the pointless thread!

OP posts:
GeorgiaGirl52 · 27/09/2020 19:39

@Fluffalo

So around the corner wouldn't do?

It depends on the layout of the streets. But then again if you believe OP had a flu jab booked for a Sunday night then I'm sure you will believe whatever.

What is unbelievable about the flu shot on Sunday? We have three pharmacies in our area that give flu shots. Two are open 24/7 and have health clinics from 8-8 daily. The third one is closed on Sundays (owners are devout Christian) but give flu shots 8-8 six days a week. The appointments are like gold. I have mine scheduled for October 30th which was first available.
BonnieMcflurry · 27/09/2020 19:40

How sad of you
Someone could been seriously hurt or something terrible could of happened to them
Aand they could of parked on your drive by mistake q

BonnieMcflurry · 27/09/2020 19:41

And what do you do phone the station like a grass and you don't even have the guts to ask why yourself. Should be ashamed they are doing a job that we should respect and understand.

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 19:42

Yes, how sad of me to be miffed I've had to cancel my flu jab and can't get another because someone blocked me in my drive. I had flu 2 years ago and ended up hospitalised so my anxiety around flu is pretty bad.

OP posts:
TheQueef · 27/09/2020 19:42

@FunTimes2020 because she wanted to attend her appointment?

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 19:43

@bonniemcflurry blimey calm down

OP posts:
MoonSauce · 27/09/2020 19:44

I wouldn’t be happy about this. I would make sure to ask them as nicely as I could manage if they could not park on your drive again and that they’ve cost you your flu jab and they haven’t got more to book now. But nicely.

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 19:46

I was very polite on the phone. I just asked if they were likely to be there for a long time as I had a flu jab booked and couldn't get out of my drive and needed to know if I should cancel it or not. I don't actually think that's too much of a big deal especially to ask on a non emergency number.
