Police are visiting someone on my street for some reason and have parked behind me in my very long narrow drive. Haven't asked if they can park there. Lots of space on the road to park however they would be on double yellows. If I needed to go anywhere, I wouldn't be able to move. No idea which house they're in. I need to go out in 35 minutes for a flu jab appointment. I know they could be dealing with a serious emergency but no idea why they're parked on my drive! WIBU to drive very slowly backwards and gently nudge their car off my drive? (Only kidding). Slightly miffed. Should I try and find them and ask them to move?

@HardJustGotHarder

They didnt ask. Call 111.... Call the non emergency number. Ring the local police station Take photos

You lot are kidding right???

So what's your suggestion? Op doesn't go to her important appt? What if a relative called in an emergency needing her? Sorry, can't, police car on drive and I can't possibly an them to move??
Snackasaurus · 27/09/2020 19:07

@BeingLonely

I can’t believe this thread. Who knows what type of situation the police are dealing with. They haven’t parked there out of badness. I would love to see how most of you would react if they were late attending to your emergency because they couldn’t find a suitable parking space
@BeingLonely agree with this!

It's quite frustrating how so many people feel it's okay to slate the police yet they would be the first to call 999 if they were in danger!

whatsleep · 27/09/2020 19:09

I’d assume. given how long they’ve been parked on your drive, it’s a serious call out. Like others have said they we’re probably more interested in getting to the call out than looking for a parking spot. Maybe they were expecting other emergency vehicles to need access so didn’t park in the road?

Laaalaaaa · 27/09/2020 19:09

@Crunchymum

Where do you live that pharmacies are open at this time on a Sunday but doesn't operate Uber? Shock
I live in a major city that does not have an Uber license so it’s very plausible. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Christ, I'm so bored I've been working through the permutations...
Fluffalo · 27/09/2020 19:11

Why anyone would choose to work for the police, or indeed most public service jobs at the moment is a mystery, this thread proves why. Aside from the mystery late Sunday flu jab, it is extremely unlikely to need to shoot off with a seconds notice, and if so you phone 101 and they can radio through to them. It will take the same amount of time as gathering up your things. There are plenty of reasons why they might have parked there, they will have calculated it, and perhaps if it's a slim drive it's not obvious. Even if it is, they will have balanced the need to park quickly and perhaps strategically with causing a nuisance.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 27/09/2020 19:11

They could park on road in an emergency, double yellows or not. It is not ok that you have had to miss an appointment because they've blocked you in. I'd be giving them short shrift for it and telling them to get their damned car off my property.

Pelleas · 27/09/2020 19:11

No Uber in my town. As far as I'm aware there is always at least one 'duty' chemist open out of hours in any conurbation.

gnomeisland · 27/09/2020 19:11

Oh LaaaLaaaa!

Where's that too then?

AlwaysLatte · 27/09/2020 19:12

I see the acab crew are out tonight.
What are acab crews?

WhatTheFuckHappenedHere · 27/09/2020 19:12

Shame you had to miss your jab, but you called, it hasn’t been moved, I don’t know what else you could have done really.

Dairyfine · 27/09/2020 19:13

Duty chemist, yes. Chemist offering pre- arranged flu vaccinations on a Sunday evening, no.

AlwaysLatte · 27/09/2020 19:14

Let their tyres down.
So they can't respond to anyone else who needs help.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 27/09/2020 19:15

I’d be outraged if I was prevented from driving away from my house. Absolutely no need to block people in.

QforCucumber · 27/09/2020 19:16

We too don't have uber anywhere nearer than the cities 50 miles away, and yet do have 24 hojr pharmacies

Pelleas · 27/09/2020 19:17

'Acab' is a tattoo popular with people who don't like the police - all coppers are b!&?%?!
LadyPenelope68 · 27/09/2020 19:18

@lasangoles
Imagine if I had a night shift to go to or had a child to pick up.
Imagine that they were responding to an emergency and just parked there as someone’s safety depended on a quick response? Jeez, have you nothing better to do??? It’s a flu jab, it can be delayed.

IHateCoronavirus · 27/09/2020 19:20

Are emergency vehicles not allowed to park on double yellows?

IndecentFeminist · 27/09/2020 19:21

Yes, cause in an emergency they're going to do a nice neat piece of parking on a driveway and not just leave it on the yellows out front with the lights on 🙄😂

That said, I'd have knocked on a few neighbours' doors or beeped the horn before cancelling a flu vax, theyre like gold dust at the mo.

We live in a v behind the times area with no Uber or anything like that, but our local pharmacies are offering late appts too.

Fluffalo · 27/09/2020 19:22

Absolutely no need to block people in.

Unless they needed to park somewhere they couldn't be seen until they arrived at the house. Someone suicidal, to assist a woman whose partner would seriously harm her if he had a chance before they arrived, to knock and let parents know that their child has died. Plenty of reasons they might have chosen to park there, they can park on my drive on a Sunday evening whenever they want. They do so much more than arrest baddies and go to someone's house during covid for something petty.

cologne4711 · 27/09/2020 19:22

Why on earth would anyone, emergency vehicle or not, park in someone's driveway when they can park on a road?

Are they definitely police? Makes me wonder.

Potterylady13 · 27/09/2020 19:23

Sadly flu jabs are hard to get now - we have the free flu vouchers at work but when collected told it's really difficult to get. Hope you get an appointment soon - I would be furious 😡

cologne4711 · 27/09/2020 19:23

I appreciate after all the cuts to the police service that have happened under the last ten years of this government, it is a shock to see police on Sunday evenings.

It's just a bit of bad luck for the OP and I think they have acted reasonably. Though the flu jab on a Sunday evening is a rarity.
