To let 3 year old play downstairs for an hour or so at the weekend?

Would you let your three year old play downstairs for an hour or so at the weekend while you read upstairs in bed? With the video monitor on to keep an eye and some cereal and milk?

Nope.

RefuseTheLies · 26/09/2020 08:03

No.

zigzagbetty · 26/09/2020 08:04

No in case I doze off again

Elphaba17 · 26/09/2020 08:04

No

I don't see the problem if the room they're playing in is child friendly and you've got the monitor on watching them.

WestieW0man · 26/09/2020 08:04

Maybe not at three, at 5 then yes. I would go downstairs and sit and read

vanillandhoney · 26/09/2020 08:04

No. Too young.

Either go downstairs with them or let them play in your room.

Magpiefeather · 26/09/2020 08:04

No. But it’s a moot point because she wouldn’t do it anyway! She would hate being the only one up.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 26/09/2020 08:05

3 is too young imo. I've just started letting my 6 year old do it

zigzagbetty · 26/09/2020 08:05

My 3yo plays in her room with the stair gate on until her glow owl come on

Pickagoddamnname · 26/09/2020 08:05

No. I started this aged 6 as dc was a sensible 6

BillywilliamV · 26/09/2020 08:05

Get a blanket and a pillow and camp out on the couch, its what I used to do.

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 26/09/2020 08:05

No. No. No.

Mine sometimes goes down to the living room without me. Stairs are in the living room so can hear everything. He chats away to me and goes up and down stairs quite a few times. The moment it goes quiet I’m down there. Don’t tend to leave him with food.

Figbee · 26/09/2020 08:06

I dread to think what state it would be when I got down! Could you get up and do breakfast, and then sit and read whilst they watch telly for a bit or something.

MaudebeGonne · 26/09/2020 08:06

No. 3 is too young. I'd sit on the sofa in my PJs and try and read while she played though.

MamaGothel · 26/09/2020 08:07

It really depends on your child. Both of mine were fine to do this at 3 if I wanted a bath or to do some cleaning upstairs. They aren't really the type to get into mischief

Itllbeaninterestingchristmas · 26/09/2020 08:07

I’m not reading in bed, usually doing some housework

RainbowFlowers · 26/09/2020 08:08

Depends in the 3 year old. I let mine do that. But I have friends 3 years who I woildnt dream of it with, not because they are naughty because they would be pulling everything out of cupboards.

Mindymomo · 26/09/2020 08:09

If you are watching on monitor, you may as well be in the room. My children always liked us to be in the same room as them, obviously housework had to be done, so they were left alone whilst I was in kitchen or putting washing out. Some 3 year olds are very independent, some more needy, I think it depends on the child really.

Yes my 3.5 year old will happily sit playing with sylvanian families and watching tv, she would be happy downstairs alone and happy doing it for an hour easily.

I wouldn't be comfortable with it though and would probably take my duvet to go and read on the sofa instead.

Eslteacher06 · 26/09/2020 08:11

No.

022828MAN · 26/09/2020 08:12

For all the ones saying no, do you have you 3 year olds with you at all times then?!
Genuinely curious as DH works long hours so I'm often cooking, cleaning, upstairs, downstairs with DD 3yrs entertaining herself in a different room. I can always hear her and shout to check she's okay but what do you consider an inappropriate amount of time to be left alone? How do you think single parents manage?

copperoliver · 26/09/2020 08:12

No. I would lay on the sofa in the same room and read my book. X

Lardlizard · 26/09/2020 08:12

No too young not worth the risk
