Instant or ‘snobby’ coffee???

I have over the years become a bit of a coffee snob. Yes I will admit it. I used to drink instant. Was introduced to filter coffee and thought it was heaven!! Then years later used a friends nespresso machine and have never looked back. So, are you a coffee snob or is it just a hot drink???
Yabu. It’s just a drink
Yanbu. No instant for me!

Coffee pods never taste as good as ground coffee. Aero press here, cafetière back up. Enjoyed a proper coffee machine but it was a faff to clean so didn’t use it. Bean to cup machine at work was pretty good but not quite.

I can’t believe I ever drank instant now. I’d rather tea if offered instant. I’m not posh.

Sidewinder30 · 25/09/2020 13:17

Nespresso disgusts me. Sorry - it's so shockingly wasteful, and for no reason. Pretty much any other option is better. I admit I am pretty judgy about coffee pods.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 25/09/2020 13:19

I suppose I am “snobby” as I really don’t like instant coffee. We use a Nespresso machine at home (best for us as we each like different types of coffee) and take a small one with us when we go on holiday. If “good” coffee isn’t available then I happily drink tea.

notreallybotheredaboutausernam · 25/09/2020 13:20

I have an espresso machine at home so never drink instant at home. I used to drink instant at work (free!), but since 4 months at home for lockdown/wfh, I can't stomach it! I've had to bring a caffetiere into work with me!

Each and every one of my Nespresso pods gets recycled by a Nespresso. They are made of aluminium which is infinitely recyclable.

I don’t use third party plastic pods which ARE wasteful.

Haha 😂! Just found out I’m a chav and not a coffee snob! Some comments in here are hilarious though. This has really cheered me up and made me giggle today. Thank you ladies of mn.

I don't like coffee from a Nespresso and we had a Tassimo for years and I didn't like that either! The coffee and hot chocolate always gates a bit 'fake'.

I love Nescafé Azera. I buy a few when its on offer at half price though as I think £6 a pot is a lot for instant!

My sibling has a bean to cup machine and whilst it's very nice, I don't think it's nice enough to fork out hundreds for a machine!

ScrambledSmegs · 25/09/2020 13:24

@Imloosingmyshit Glad it's not just me that can taste the Bovril! Was a bit worried by the deafening silence Grin

@Ideasplease322

I am going to hijack this thread and ask for recommendations for a filter coffee machine😊.

I love the look for the Smeg machine, but want one that will brew a pot on a timer so it’s ready when I wake up.

Any good recommendations?

When I had a filter machine I plugged it in to a digital timer and just set that for when I wanted it come on Smile
IntermittentParps · 25/09/2020 13:28

Well, hell will freeze over before I use a Nespresso machine. But I do drink real coffee not instant. I'm a cafetiere girl at home and drink it black, but I like a flat white when out.

I vary between buying beans and ready-ground depending on what's on special offer or what I fancy. Grumpy Mule are a good brand, I find.

Whataboutnodontyouunderstand · 25/09/2020 13:29

True coffee snob I'm afraid, I have a coffee grinder and full coffee machine 😂😂 can't drink it any other way now! Have to steam my milk and everything even costa is a no go these days haha

LakieLady · 25/09/2020 13:30

@lottiegarbanzo, I had coffee-induced shakes and palpitations after 3 mugs of Java at a friend's some years ago.

Unfortunately, the 90-mile drive home was nearly all motorways and at one point, I thought I was going to have to leave the M25 and park up somewhere until it passed. As luck would have it, the traffic was all snarled up and all I had to do was creep along following the car in front for an hours, by which time it had passed.

Bloody unpleasant though, and I had a blinding headache, too.

It put me off drinking "real" coffee for a couple of years.

TravelDreamLife · 25/09/2020 13:30

Instant coffee triggers my migraines, plus tastes disgusting.

I have nespresso because I don't have time to use a proper machine. If I could justify the cost I'd get a fully auto bean to cup machine.

Emmapeeler2 · 25/09/2020 13:31

I have a Melitta filter coffee machine with a thermos jug. I love it.

bengalcat · 25/09/2020 13:32

I like the Nescafé azeera instant range but partner has pods

Emmapeeler2 · 25/09/2020 13:33

Ps it takes hardly any time to brew a couple of cups with a filter machine, even without a timer.

ScrambledSmegs · 25/09/2020 13:33

Btw you know you can buy compostable Nespresso compatible pods? There are loads of good brands that do it now. Roar Gill, Roast Works, Pact etc. There's even a reusable pod you can buy that you fill with your own coffee.

And you can (and should) recycle the branded ones.

Hoppinggreen · 25/09/2020 13:34

I consider Nespresso and similar not much better than instant.
Has to be Bean to cup for me at home

TankGirl97 · 25/09/2020 13:35

I never realised I'm a coffee snob until this year. We have instant at home but as Jerry Seinfeld once said, "I get my coffee on the outside"! I really really missed a good coffee during lockdown. Might get myself an aeropress to see if it's satisfactory, otherwise we're going to fork out on a decent bean to cup machine.

justasking111 · 25/09/2020 13:36

Real coffee, instant decaff or Beanies Irish Cream, depends on time of day and mood

justasking111 · 25/09/2020 13:39

DS was given a de longhi by a restaurant which was upgrading, it made gorgeous coffee. The sod took it back to uni.

NotMeNoNo · 25/09/2020 13:42

Grew with instant coffee, nothing else.
Over the years I've moved towards real coffee, lockdown cemented it as the only pleasure of WFH. I'm now sitting here at work in my Covid distance office with an Aeropress on my desk and another one at home.

I'll drink Millicano-type posh instant at a push but I'd rather have 1 or 2 real coffees in a day than 4 instant.

elizabethdraper · 25/09/2020 13:44

Nespresso is not snobby coffee Smile

We get Blue Mountain beans from Jamaica which we grind fresh for each cup

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 25/09/2020 13:45

I grew up outside the UK and never 'got' instant. It's vile. I bring an Aeropress when I travel but otherwise we use a filter coffee machine with a pot and grind beans in an electric coffee maker. I use Oatly Barista in my coffee; my husband uses whole milk.

backtothefuture · 25/09/2020 13:50

Snobby coffee for me :) I don't like instant, or Nespresso for that matter
