Cleaner wants to me to put a toilet brush in every bathroom

We have three toilets and just started with a new cleaner.

I've been asked by the agency to put a toilet brush in every toilet. I don't want to, I hate toilet brushes I don't want three of them.

I've looked at the disposable ones but they are expensive and don't look great for the environment.

Never had a cleaner make this request before, is it usual?

I don't have a broom either Hmm
The hoover tends to deal with the dust and food particles

HomesUnderTheSpanner · 24/09/2020 09:36

I think it's disgusting to keep something that apparently your houseguests cover with their shit plunged standing in thin bleach in the room where you get clean.

Err, are you aware that you've just described your toilet? Confused How is the brush any worse than the actual toilet?

Ishihtzuknot · 24/09/2020 09:37

I’d rather provide her with 3 brushes than allow her to carry one between all bathrooms potentially dripping dirty toilet water everywhere. I don’t like brushes either but if it’s what the cleaner prefers it makes her job easier. I’ve been a cleaner on and off for 5 years and never been to a house without brushes in each toilet.

@Kalula

*I think it's disgusting to keep something that apparently your houseguests cover with their shit plunged standing in thin bleach in the room where you get clean.

All these people saying ooh it doesn't smell are making me heave.*

The brush is flushed clean by flushing and holding it under the stream.

Think about it, if your toilet bowl doesn't smell, then your toilet brush wouldn't.

You still haven't answered what you do with the gloves you use. Are you buying disposables all the time? If, toilet cleaner, toilet paper, disposable gloves - all excess materials and bad for the environment, not to mention the cost, when a toilet brush is DESIGNED to clean.......toilets. Putting your hand down the bowl I think would make anyone heave. I've heard of people living like pigs, but that is just disgusting! Just picturing the logistics is making me heave.

I'm more concerned about what happenes if theres an "overtopping" issue Shock

We have the Joseph brushes. I find them to to be fairly discreet and pretty good.

Normal loo brushes break on me, so I bought one of these www.josephjoseph.com/products/flex-plus-toilet-brush?variant=34712216928328 It's a lot more hygienic as the end is rubber so it stays clean.

I've worked as a cleaner and would definitely want anything I needed to be there, and not to be carrying a loo brush all round the house.

But if you let them know whatever weird thing you want them to do instead then that's ok I suppose.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 24/09/2020 09:38

Think those who don’t have a brush must have soft water. The line scale build up is what often causes a smell in toilets - it smells like piss. For some reason (because they filthy buggers probably) my kids’ bathroom smells much worse than mine and gets a lot of limescale building up below the waterline in their loo. Bleach turns the scale white but doesn’t get rid of it, we need some hardcore limescale remover to break it down. To show how hard my water is, this kettle was descaled two days ago and is already building up again!

Using a brush is better for environment than using bleach every time.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 24/09/2020 09:38

@kalula I use my hoover in the kitchen. Much easier than faffing about sweeping. I dont own any pavement to sweep Confused

I'm sorry you mean you KEEP your toilet after your guest has shit in it?

Good God how disgusting, civilised people hurl it out of the window and replace after each flush!

Pasghetti · 24/09/2020 09:39

This is the oddest op dilemma ever and there has been some real competition on MN 😂😂😂

xtinak · 24/09/2020 09:39

I don't know any houses that have a toilet brush but thinking it could be as PP mentioned because it's really soft water around here. Straight bleach will do fine and if necessary I stick some down before the cleaner comes. She has never asked for a toilet brush but no real need. Always interesting to know what others consider normal.

Covert20 · 24/09/2020 09:39

We have a poo troll...

Kalula · 24/09/2020 09:39

Is this a generational thing I wonder, or are people simply not raised with proper hygiene standards? I just don't understand. The idea that someone would stick their hand deep down in a toilet rather than use a household instrument designed to clean, is just, I can't get my head around it.

MagpieSong · 24/09/2020 09:40

Shocked at the amount of people without loo brushes! I had no idea this was a thing. Limescale and grime builds up without scrubbing the remover around/under the toilet rim and bowl. Then again, I was shocked to find out how many people didn’t own thermometers when they had children, so perhaps I’m the weirdo.

Elsewyre · 24/09/2020 09:41

Hang on, what do you do when you leave skidmark and you're the guest toilet and they have no brush?

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 24/09/2020 09:42

IKEA do a brush where you can replace the head which might help your situation OP.

nobodysdaughter · 24/09/2020 09:42

Does anyone know an good environmentally friendly toilet brush?

EasternDailyStress · 24/09/2020 09:42

Half fill your toilet brush holder with water/bleach. Then the brush is cleaned between uses. Simple.

Hi OP, another suggestion (because I agree that toilet brushes are gross minions of Satan) - have you seen the short bristle silicon ones you can get? They disgust me far less because you can properly clean them after use without things getting stuck in the bristles (vomit).

JonHammIsMyJamm · 24/09/2020 09:43

No toilet brushes here either. I’ve had cleaners for 15 years. They put gloves on and scrub under the waterline. Just as I do. The scrubby sponges then get put on a boil wash with zoflora in the washing machine. No drama. Toilet brushes with the puddles of dirty water in the pots give me the heebie-jeebies. My toilets are clean as whistles.

Pobblebonk · 24/09/2020 09:43

I don't understand your concern for the environment when you regularly squirt loads of chemicals into the drains rather than using elbow grease and a reusable brush?

Kalula · 24/09/2020 09:44

Exactly. It's like skirting some toothpaste in your mouth, using your fingers to clean your teeth, and rinse. Toothbrushes are there to get into the nooks and crannies of your teeth, to lift food particles.

I have questions for these people, like do they use a toothbrush to brush their teeth? Do they even brush their teeth at all? And many other hygiene questions. But to be honest, I really don't think I can stomach the answers. I just don't want to know.
