Cleaner wants to me to put a toilet brush in every bathroom

We have three toilets and just started with a new cleaner.

I've been asked by the agency to put a toilet brush in every toilet. I don't want to, I hate toilet brushes I don't want three of them.

I've looked at the disposable ones but they are expensive and don't look great for the environment.

Never had a cleaner make this request before, is it usual?

Do you at least have one in your guest toilet?

TiddyTid · 24/09/2020 09:07

Hahaha

SerenityNowwwww · 24/09/2020 09:07

You are paying someone to do a job. Like any other job she needs the equipment to do the the job.

wendywoopywoo222 · 24/09/2020 09:08

Have a word with the agency and tell them that cleaning the toilet isn't part of the job.

littlecatfeet · 24/09/2020 09:08

I guess your options are supply toilet brushes or hide your toothbrushes Grin

It's not just about "skid marks", toilets want a good regular scrubbing to prevent stains building up on the porcelain.

SallySeven · 24/09/2020 09:08

Just tell them to leave the toilets.

festfestfest · 24/09/2020 09:08

Do you have very long gloves? Where do the gloves go after use? Why is that better than a brush? Really curious

Lazypuppy · 24/09/2020 09:08

OP what do you do with the rubber gloves after you've cleaned the toilet?

Toilet brushes get used to clean the toilet, then just pour a bit more bleach in to clean them, and put they back in holder...they are clean! If they aren't, you're doing something wrong.

What about if you have guests? How mortifying for them not to be able to clean the toilet if needed

icedaisy · 24/09/2020 09:09

Feel like I've walked into a parallel universe. First time ever on MN I've seen a thread where people have brushes and are shocked at those that don't.....nobody ever says they have a brush here.

AntiHop · 24/09/2020 09:10

Yabu.

Cadent · 24/09/2020 09:10

@toiletbrushtrauma

Ok fair enough it's a thing.

I won't be buying them I'll just tell her not to clean the bowl (I don't leave it covered in shit anyway like the rest of you seem to).

Yes I’m sure you, DC and partner always leave the toilets skid-mark free for the cleaner. Not buying it.

We don’t have a cleaner but do have toilet brushes.

SallySeven · 24/09/2020 09:10

My toilet does not need regular scrubbing as we don't have limescale.

Soapy spray, hot water, occasional bleach. All is good

Happyspud · 24/09/2020 09:10

So you don't want anything in the room that's been in the toilet water but yet the toilet water itself is right there 24/7.

It's just a toilet and toilet brush.

Akire · 24/09/2020 09:10

its not just about Skid Marks. But how your can poo without never hitting the porcelain. Who knows! The loo can’t be clean purely by flushing cold water. It needs good scrub to hit parts water doesn’t hit and clean bacteria off or it will smell. A brush and some sort of cleaning does this.

This is really weird. Can't your guests shit straight? I get that the kids make a mess sometimes but do you really visit other peoples houses and pebbledash their toilets?! This is another thing ive never heard of

I have 3 loos and 3 brushes. Makes sense to me.

I wondered this. Are the gloves ok to be used multiple times or do they get thrown out after each use?

Absolute LOL at sassy OP too Grin

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/09/2020 09:12

Just as a general matter of respect, no discussion about the best way of doing it, if you are expecting them to do just about the mankiest possible task in your house it seems like common decency to let them choose the tools they want to do it.

Herja · 24/09/2020 09:13

I use the brushes to actually clean the loo, rather than just squirt cleaner on and wash it off. To my mind, things need to be scrubbed to be clean - be it walls, floors, windows or loos. Cleaning product squirted, then rinsed off, is not properly clean. I assume your cleaner feels the same.

They are never used on shit, just for scrubbing bleach or loo cleaner. Then they are soaked in bleach solution until I next want to scrub the loo. Otherwise over time there is limescale build up which stains (I lived in a very hard water area). Seems reasonable to me.

ShirleyPhallus · 24/09/2020 09:13

Ah no, you went too far now. Good start but this sentence let you down OP.

7/10.

KenDodd · 24/09/2020 09:14

You put your hand down the loo to clean shit off it? I assume you wear a glove. What do you then do with the glove?

I have a brush in each loo, in a tall, plastic, bucket/holder thing. I keep the bottom half full of thin bleach so the brush is sat in that, it doesn't smell, also, much better of visitors if they need to discreetly clean up after themselves.

HappyDinosaur · 24/09/2020 09:14

Ugh, can't imagine cleaning a toilet without a brush. Also could potentially be very embarrassing for your guests op, definitely get at least one for whichever they are likely to use!

It looks like mumsnet, but I'm not sure it really is Grin
Darkestseasonofall · 24/09/2020 09:14

Never in my life have I cleaned a toilet manually. I squirt bleach around the rim every so often and my toilet has never been dirty (I live in a soft water area, don't know if that makes a difference).
Tell her not to clean down the toilet, I'd absolutely never want a loo brush, never mind 3 of the buggers.

dementedpixie · 24/09/2020 09:15

I have silicone brushes so they don't rust. I also only use them alongside toilet cleaner rather than for wiping skid marks
