Ok not really an Aibu - but Dh just came home with a meal deal for us each - so two sandwiches drinks etc, and one packet of salt and vinegar and one cheese and onion.

I don’t like c&o (which he knows) and Dh just leaves his crisps. I said “oh are you not eating the ... he said no I don’t fancy that flavour...

It turns out that he always buys both for me as he still gets confused the by the green/blue packet thing! He’s being doing it for years and I’ve never noticed.

So Aibu to ask - is it really that hard to tell the difference between the two - even though walkers does muddy the waters!

It’s very sweet of him - a little incompetent - but he sounds like one to keep

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:57

@Ginkypig it’s a great one to mention in the pub - as everyone checks it there and then!

Tayto cheese and onion crisps in Northern Ireland are YELLOW but in Ireland they are RED just to confuse the foreigners

SimonJT · 23/09/2020 16:58

Oh thats quite sweet really, stupid but sweet, especially as cheese and onion are vile.

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:59

@Bluntness100 I mean while numbers is More his thing - he did manage to write a book on finance, so nope don’t think a reading issue is the case here.

So... If cheese and onion are red in Ireland, what on earth is ready salted?!?!?!? 🤔🤔🙄🙄🤣🤣🤣

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 17:08

Pipers THE BEST crispy crisps (things like Hula Hoops, Skips, etc.. are not crispy crisps) have blue for plain, yellow for cheese and onion and green for salt and vinegar just to confuse things Shock

hitchedhiker · 23/09/2020 17:09

Walkers pack colours might not have changed but they were a minor brand before they were merged with Smiths and replaced them in the shops.

So proper blue Smiths S&V disappeared from alongside all the other brands' proper blue S&V and were replaced by green Walkers S&V.

Yummyplainscones · 23/09/2020 17:09

Flappingflamingo - It’s mind blowing isn’t it. The world’s gone mad.Confused

HariboLectar · 23/09/2020 17:11

I think they're quite confused actually, but I'll let them off because they are bloody tasty!!

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 17:14

@HariboLectar now oddly those colours make more sense to me... they match the ingredients.

No such thing. 4 flavours. That's yer lot www.tayto.ie
We have all the flavours in the north yellow c&o blue s&v green pickled onion! www.tayto.com

SJK34 · 23/09/2020 17:15

The milk here still disorients me. Where I’m from red top is full fat, light blue is skimmed, dark blue is semi.

SlopesOff · 23/09/2020 17:18

Plain crisps with a twist of salt in blue paper used to be in a white packet with blue, in the olden days before flavoured crisps, and they were always Smiths. Now there is similar colouring for the ones with the little blue salt thing which is now in a little flat sachet like a silicon bag.

Then cheese and onion came along, in green. Eventually Walkers arrived but I was still buying Smiths in the 90's, hardly see anything but Golden Wonder now, and own brand.

viques · 23/09/2020 17:18

@user1481840227

I'm in Ireland and red is cheese and onion on our most popular brands. Blue is salt and vinegar. Green is often sour cream and onion!
I always think sour cream and onion is the same as a mild cheese and onion.

Not that I eat them. I only eat plain salted crisps. I am of an age when if you wanted salt and vinegar you had to add your own vinegar to the packet, and don't get me started on the proper little twists of salt you used to get (not mini packets) oh my, the excitement when you got two or three in the same bag. No wonder we were happy to make our own entertainment.........

AlmostAJillSandwich · 23/09/2020 17:20

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 17:21

He’s literate but for Years he’s went by the colours of crisp packets, to the extent he buys two as he’s not sure which is which, rather than glance at rhe big writing on the front?

Honestly do you not find that odd?

It is odd to the point of idiocy, yet people are cooing over how sweet it is 😂
Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 17:27

Well odd yes which is why I posted:
However as I mused upthread - I get a feeling that it’s “Gobelino likes the green ones, or is it the blue ones”
We all have a blind spot - I can never remember whether my wedding anniversary is the 14th or 15th - surely you have one too?

OP posts:
StephenKong · 23/09/2020 17:28

But your wedding date is not emblazoned in large letters right in front of your face, so it's a false comparison.

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 17:30

@StephenKong nor is “Gobelino likes salt and vinegar” so it’s exactly the same comparison if my theory is correct. Perhaps you had trouble reading my post?

What a narna Grin but very sweet!

Mine is a bit like this - we’ve also been together 15 years and last weekend he tells me peas are his favourite vegetable. I don’t like them, so I don’t buy them often - can’t believe he’s been suffering broccoli for so long!

StephenKong · 23/09/2020 17:32

You said initially he got confused between green and blue 🤷🏻‍♀️
🤣
