DH has been eating crisps he doesn’t want for years

Ok not really an Aibu - but Dh just came home with a meal deal for us each - so two sandwiches drinks etc, and one packet of salt and vinegar and one cheese and onion.

I don’t like c&o (which he knows) and Dh just leaves his crisps. I said “oh are you not eating the ... he said no I don’t fancy that flavour...

It turns out that he always buys both for me as he still gets confused the by the green/blue packet thing! He’s being doing it for years and I’ve never noticed.

So Aibu to ask - is it really that hard to tell the difference between the two - even though walkers does muddy the waters!

Ah what a sweet man, even if he is a bit clueless and not much of a problem solver.

I'm a Tayto girl through and through though, keep that Walkers muck away from me Grin

StephenKong · 23/09/2020 16:25

It'd be a lot cuter if the flavour wasn't emblazoned across the packet, tbh. If he's done it continually I'd wonder why he was so bloody wet.

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:26

@ancientgran yes we would have been in trouble! I’d boldly state “cheese and onion” and he’s be going erm... “the blue one, no that green one...”

Derelictwreck · 23/09/2020 16:29

Change his screen saver to a pack of s&v crisps...

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:29

The more I think about it - the more I think it’s that in his head I like “the green” ones... but then it’s like “does she like the green ones or the blue ones”. He had no problem if I ask for say smokey bacon or something. It’s like a strange mental block I assume.

@ancientgran you still get Salt n Shake and I sometimes buy them. Really nice if you add a shake of chilli powder too. The thrill of getting more than one packet of salt in a bag.

UnfinishedSymphon · 23/09/2020 16:32

@RollerDiscoSkates

That's very lovely OP Smile

Speaking of crisps, does anyone know if they sell ready salted chipsticks anymore? I can only find salt and vinegar which are Envy

OMG these were my guilty pleasure, dunked in Nutella before they palmed oiled it to grossness.

I'd love to find RS chipsticks again

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:32

@ancientgran I think you can still get them! I used to love sprinkling my own salt.

Haha I love a subtle brag post.

Yes OP you have a lovely husband. Well done. Albeit one who can’t read...

liveitwell · 23/09/2020 16:39

I think it's sweet of him

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:41

@Derelictwreck problem is that his head might explode if I ask for salt and vinegar hula hoops - - which are rightly blue

OP posts:
TheDuchessofMalfy · 23/09/2020 16:41

It’s very sweet of him, if a bit daft bearing in mind it’s written on the packet!

Yummyplainscones · 23/09/2020 16:43

You’ve got a good one there OP. See Mumsnetter’s good men are out there.

I too agree the colours are confusing.
Go for ready salted next time I don’t think that would cause too much umming and ahhing!

I’m going to do my own little boast now. I asked my DH if he could buy me some plain scones on the way home, they didn’t have any in so he bought some sultana ones instead and then thought just in case I didn’t like them he bought me a chocolate cake as well! Good man!
Changed my user name in honour of this.

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:45

@Yummyplainscones ooh I could murder a scone right now - with it without sultanas. Bit chocolate cake as well - your Dh is a hero!

@Gobelinoisawitchescat

Fun fact - all main brand crisps have expiry dates on a Saturday!
Wtf Shock
rorosemary · 23/09/2020 16:47

I'd check if he can read packets. Maybe he is in denial of needing reading glasses?

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:48

@Ginkypig it’s my go to “random fact”. Honestly next time you have some crisps - check the expiry date. Not sure holds true for multipacks etc but definitely for single ones.

OP posts:
KetoPenguin · 23/09/2020 16:49

Cheese and onion should be green (like spring onions)
Salt and vinegar should be blue - like the sea.

So true! I also thought they changed the colours, were Walkers much less popular than other brands like Golden Wonder in the 80s and that's why we all think they changed.

Yummyplainscones · 23/09/2020 16:49

I have to agree OP, he is a hero! I’d been craving them for days. I’ve sat here picking out all the sultanas and enjoyed them nonetheless. Chocolate cake later. I don’t think I’ll manage my 5 a day today.
Here’s your slice of cake Cake OP, very sorry but I’m not sharing my scones!

CustardySergeant · 23/09/2020 16:51

Bluntness100 "Op, is he illiterate/functionally illiterate. Is that why he can’t read the packet?"

He must be, surely. Either that or he needs reading glasses, as a PP has mentioned. Very odd.

Ginkypig · 23/09/2020 16:52

Walkers have always been that colour but the reason everyone talks about the swap is because they decided to launch them differently from every other brand so when they came on the market they changed "the rules" so while they have never changed how they produce them they swapped the popular presentation by changing how it had been presented to us up to that point.

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:53

@CustardySergeant yeah of course - I posted about why my illiterate husband can’t read a crisp packet just to be mean 🙄.

OP posts:
CandyLeBonBon · 23/09/2020 16:53

Years ago c&o was green and s&v was blue. Then they switched it and it's gone to shit ever since! Unwanted crisps and disappointed cris eaters everywhere

I just did I happened to have a packet of discos from a multipack next to me Blush and they are best before 16/01/21 Saturday

I think it’s the only reason that for years someone would only be able to go by the colours of rhe packet. It’s big writing the flavour on the front, it’s not hidden.

I can understand why the op maybe would wish to say though. Many people are functionally illiterate sadly. Too many.
