DH has been eating crisps he doesn’t want for years

Ok not really an Aibu - but Dh just came home with a meal deal for us each - so two sandwiches drinks etc, and one packet of salt and vinegar and one cheese and onion.

I don’t like c&o (which he knows) and Dh just leaves his crisps. I said “oh are you not eating the ... he said no I don’t fancy that flavour...

It turns out that he always buys both for me as he still gets confused the by the green/blue packet thing! He’s being doing it for years and I’ve never noticed.

So Aibu to ask - is it really that hard to tell the difference between the two - even though walkers does muddy the waters!

Not the first time I've picked up walkers tomato thinking it's ready salted the dissapointment is to much

Deux · 23/09/2020 16:07

The part of Scotland I grew up in didn’t seem to stock Walkers crisps. So it was Golden Wonder blue = salt n vinegar. I still have to pause when buying walkers to get the right thing.

firesong · 23/09/2020 16:08

Someone mentioned buying the wrong tampons. I recall an ex thought that tampon size related to "fanny size" rather than flow HmmGrin

Mrsjayy · 23/09/2020 16:08

Golden wonder have the blue -green maybe that's what you're confused with.

Xiaoxiong · 23/09/2020 16:10

Kettle crisps at least gets the salt & vinegar correctly blue, Tyrells is wrong with green. But both Tyrells and Kettle have cheese & onion as yellow!

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:10

KP I believe also follow the “green for cheese and onion” rule. It’s Walkers who were the outliers.

Wtf has happened to Mumsnet.

Mrsjayy · 23/09/2020 16:12

Oh KP were my favourite and yes they had the right order

Oysterbabe · 23/09/2020 16:13

DH casually mentioned recently that he doesn't like soup. We've been together 7 years and I've served soup about 1000 times.

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:14

@FlatScreenTV01 am guessing you haven’t been here long... this is the sort of crap people talked about before it was all facemasks and bubbles. Wink

One of my DH's plus points is that he will always eat the manky flavours of crisps left over - cheese and onion, roast chicken etc. He also eats all the cereal shrapnel at the bottom of the packet, and the Bounties, toffee pennies and Turkish delights that get left in the Christmas chocolates.

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:15

@Oysterbabe aww and he dutifully ate it!

Mrsjayy · 23/09/2020 16:17

@Oysterbabe he luffs ya Smile

FizzyPink · 23/09/2020 16:17

I would probably do something similar. DP is extremely fussy whereas I am not and will eat anything and it’s hard to remember all of his particular likes and dislikes (for example penne pasta is a no but he loves rigatoni Confused) so I often just buy two different options and eat the one he doesn’t want

Cheeseandwin5 · 23/09/2020 16:17

I have to admit I have bought Cheese and Onion when I want salt and vinegar. To be fair, if you don't want the other one just don't eat them.

I have to say I find it amusing that you call him daft for not knowing which is which, and at the same time you have not noticed he doesn't have either.

ancientgran · 23/09/2020 16:19

He might be a bit dim but you are a lucky woman, it's almost as good as giving you his last Rolo. Bless him.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 23/09/2020 16:19

It's very sweet really, if ridiculous.

If salt and vinegar are pink in Australia, does that mean you don't have the world's best flavour? Prawn Cocktail?!? (and I don't even like prawns)

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:20

@Cheeseandwin5 to be fair - he usually eats them. Thankfully today he didn’t as otherwise another 15 years may have gone by with me blindly assuming they are his favourite Smile

Yeh but Walkers have always been wrong!
From memory Tudor always abided by the correct green/blue coding

So did Golden Wonder. And they had ready salted in dark blue IIRC. The abominable Walkers didn't appear in my life until I was about eleven Sad when they were suddenly ubiquitous and it was hard to find another brand. None of their flavours are right, ready salted = not salty enough, s&v = not strong enough, c&o = Envy, prawn cocktail = too sweet ...

ancientgran · 23/09/2020 16:22

I wonder how you'd do on Mr and Mrs? A crisp question could have cost you alot (don't actually know if Mr and Mrs is still on or what the prize is so wasnt a very helpful comment, I apologise.)

I don't think your husband is dim, just sweet and a bit confused.

gamerchick · 23/09/2020 16:22
Green walkers have always been Salt and Vinegar.
Blue ones have always been Cheese and Onion.

From their website:

Answer: Contrary to popular belief, Walkers Cheese and Onion have always been in blue packets, and Salt and Vinegar have always been in green packets. We don't have a plan to change this, as it's signature to our brand.

walkers.co.uk/faq/brands-flavours
It's true, despite millions of us remembering the switch vividly Grin

The only thing I can think of what happened is walkers did a huge promotion, shops placed them prominently en masse so they were suddenly in our faces and we just switched via subliminal message. Or something.

I didn't believe it until I saw an actual ancient crisp packet. They've always been those colours. It's hard to believe though.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 23/09/2020 16:22

@RollerDiscoSkates

That's very lovely OP Smile

Speaking of crisps, does anyone know if they sell ready salted chipsticks anymore? I can only find salt and vinegar which are Envy

I believe the factory stopped making them. I have a friend who used to be a crisp buyer for the co-op and she told me Sad
Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 16:22

@TastelessBracelets Roast chicken flavour is an absolute waste of a packet of crisps. And they always throw them it to multipacks! Surely no one ever wants them.

ancientgran · 23/09/2020 16:23

I'm just remembering Smiths crisps and the salt in a little blue packet. Those were the days.

EmilyBishopmyconfession · 23/09/2020 16:23

but as he knows it needs to be green and blue am assuming not - though interesting you say that as we often disagree on the colour of something (as in whether it is in fact green or blue).

Could he be blue/ green colourblind? Just a thought.

Sweet thread though.
