DH has been eating crisps he doesn’t want for years

Ok not really an Aibu - but Dh just came home with a meal deal for us each - so two sandwiches drinks etc, and one packet of salt and vinegar and one cheese and onion.

I don’t like c&o (which he knows) and Dh just leaves his crisps. I said “oh are you not eating the ... he said no I don’t fancy that flavour...

It turns out that he always buys both for me as he still gets confused the by the green/blue packet thing! He’s being doing it for years and I’ve never noticed.

So Aibu to ask - is it really that hard to tell the difference between the two - even though walkers does muddy the waters!

@Gobelinoisawitchescat

Oh god it’s also dawned on me that, fairly often when I buy a multipack I buy him the cheese and onion ones as I thought they were his favourites.

For context we’ve been together fifteen years

I've only just found out my DH doesn't like salt and vinegar crisps and we've been together 15 years as well!

I am confused though, even if he can't remember which flavour you like (or read the packet!) why does he even buy the ones he doesn't like if he knows you don't like them either and remember if that way?!

MsEllany · 23/09/2020 17:32

And a bit less sweet is me knowing next door is called Catherine but still having to check my brain that it’s not Caroline before I talk to her!

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 23/09/2020 17:33

@MsEllany it’s always surprising when you find out something new like this isn’t it!

@TheOneTheOnlyPedroPony as I say - I think it’s along the lines of “she’s likes the green.. or is it the blue”. So he just buys both and has the one I don’t. I mean he could go crazy and just buy a third pack!

@StephenKong yes - what’s your point?

I mean why doesn't he just think which ones don't I like as neither does @Gobelinoisawitchescat

CharityDingle · 23/09/2020 17:42

So, has he been eating the ones he doesn't like, up to now?

WalkingInTheAir13 · 23/09/2020 18:04

Schweppes Tonic Water and Schweppes Soda Water come in VERY similar colour/design cans and bottle.

When I ask DH for vodka and tonic, the odds are 50:50 that I will not receive a vodka and soda (which is horrible).

So yes! Why is it so difficult to check the writing on the label? Grrrrr!

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 23/09/2020 18:04

Bless him for making sure you got what you liked!

MyCatHatesEverybody · 23/09/2020 18:05

When I was a kid in the early 80s the main brand of crisps (in the south east anyway) was Golden Wonder, with the occasional Smiths and KP crisps (whose cheese and onion was in a yellow packet and reeeaaally strong iirc). I only ever saw Walkers up north.

Smoky bacon footballs trumped them all though, closely followed by Burtons piglets and/or potato puffs.

WalkingInTheAir13 · 23/09/2020 18:05
 • that I WILL receive a vodka and soda!
Regularsizedrudy · 23/09/2020 18:20

Not to be a Debbie downer and I’m sure he’s a top bloke... but I can’t believe women are impressed by this absolute bare minimum level niceness! Especially as this basically boils down to being too lazy to remember which kind you like.

VickySunshine · 23/09/2020 18:28

You're criticising the guy for thinking of you ?. Sweet !.

Flappingflamingo · 23/09/2020 18:39

@Yummyplainscones
My mind is completely blown by all of this, I'm still non the wiser though, is there no such thing as ready salted in Ireland and if there is, what colour would I look for?????

Tayto do ready salted. It's a red bag? I'm not even in Ireland...

Yummyplainscones · 23/09/2020 18:44

@Flappingflamingo - I know me too. Haven’t we all got enough to be dealing with without the terror of not knowing what colour crisp packet to look for in which country.
This has made me want to find out. Maybe a first holiday to Ireland in 2021 is on the cards. Covid or not. Or in the meantime isn’t there a Irish board on MN we could ask the experts?
Please don’t let it upset you too much, we’ll get to the bottom of this one way or another.

GabsAlot · 23/09/2020 18:45
@TastelessBracelets Roast chicken flavour is an absolute waste of a packet of crisps. And they always throw them it to multipacks! Surely no one ever wants them.
ive just a multipack of them love it

golden wonder were the other way round cant remember if they are now and usually they were the only brands around in the 80s

Flappingflamingo · 23/09/2020 18:50

@Yummyplainscones

CorianderLord · 23/09/2020 18:52

The best crisps are Worcestershire sauce or Quavers you nutters

Yummyplainscones · 23/09/2020 18:54

@Flappingflamingo - Yes I’m in! Can we drive a classic car like that antiques road trip programme?

Flappingflamingo · 23/09/2020 18:58

@Yummyplainscones
As long as your driving, I don't drive!! 😂 But I've got Thelma and Louise vibes running through my mind

Chewbecca · 23/09/2020 18:59

@RollerDiscoSkates M&S do delicious ready salted chip sticks in a BIG bag.

Yummyplainscones · 23/09/2020 19:01

@Flappingflamingo - oh I was hoping we could share the driving, on second thoughts let’s get a chauffeur. Yes to Thelma and Louise. Baggsy I’m Louise but I need to lose a fair few pounds first, no more crisps for me for the next 6 months!

ravensoaponarope · 23/09/2020 19:08

That is so sweet!
