‘Fuck the Covid rules.’ Really?

To all the posters (there have been many) saying they don’t plan to abide by the new rule of 6 - is your attitude specific to Covid, or do you generally don’t care about acting illegally?

For instance would you drink and drive ‘because you have a good reason’?

Or park illegally or drive without a seatbelt?

Would you drop litter on the streets?

I’m genuinely confused by the admission that so many posters see law-abidance as a “nice to have”, rather than some basic standard of life and morality in a society.

Thing is this virus may never go, the VLA2001 vaccine will not be ready before the latter part of 2021, as the testing has to be so extensive it can take years and they are fast tracking it as much as possible whilst ensuring vigorously tested.

So people thinking they may not be able to spend time with their families as a whole for a long time will encourage people to break the rules. I won't not see my family until late 2021Hmm

It's been 6 months, this virus is not disappearing anytime soon and life cannot be put on hold indefinitely, the Spanish flu lasted for 2 years and there is no vaccine, but it's agreed society ended up developing a collective immunity to it despite it not disappearing completely

@LouiseNW I shall listen to that. You must be so proud of your son. My faith is humanity is restored by your post, and I think I shall stop commenting on this thread, and leave on a high! My beautiful
Mum had a mammogram before Christmas. However the doctors strongly suspect cancer again and she getting her diagnosis on Friday. We - as a family - have rigidly stuck to the rules. My daughter has been asked on many play dates but knows she needs to be careful for Granny - so has declined. I’m so proud of her too. This is about the greater good - I wholeheartedly agree. Thank you @LouiseNW x

The selfishness and lack of civic responsibility from some people here is shocking. It's all very well taking an "I'm alright Jack" approach when it suits you but you then should not complain if you are put at risk by others.
I think we all have to obey the rules as much as we can and risk assess/use common sense if we feel we have to vary that. My mother is in her 90s and in poor health, she has made it very clear that she regards the risk of dying without seeing her family and, above all, without hugging her great-grandchildren, as far worse than the risk of contracting Covid. She is mentally capable of making her own decisions so we see her but just reduce the risks as much as we possibly can

Just hoping that you stayed on long enough to say, all the very, very best to your mum. X

This (hopefully) once a century global pandemic emergency has been such a revelation. We learn so much as we ride this roller coaster on an enforced expedited survival learning curve. Not so much as flattening the curve but on how human ingenuity (especially incomprehensible and incompetent political leadership) is found lacking when it really counts in a life and death situation for both lives and livelihoods.

However it is easy to blame and curse behind a comfortable armchair in one's home as individually and collectively we all played a part as to the resulting disaster unfolding. Personally I always educate my young child that in these anxious and surreal times with Covid and forthcoming elected Brexit, we must take the initiative ourselves and be as independent as possible so while the Titanic is sinking and others are maniacally rearranging the deck chairs we don't wait to hear the fat lady sing but proactively do what any one should and would do and don't rely on anyone but yourself and your survival instincts. On this potentially dysfunctional island with no effective leadership management, reduced law and order (despite emergency Covid criminal laws) common sense (in many cases) as people make matters worst by selfishly ignoring dangers so that the disease super spreads unchecked and unseen with no medical cure in sight. Like many likeminded we always go above and beyond the minimum UK government Covid instructions to ensure an extra margin of safety. So instead of arguing about PPE (as face coverings are scientifically accepted and expected) for months and recent face coverings requirement now backed by criminal laws to mandate Covidiots, we have been very big on this for months as wearing a surgical mask is just as natural as wearing any other item of clothing. We are not naturalist so have no issues with wearing what surgeons use day in day out for long continuous hours in high pressure high concentration critical scenarios. As also a cyclist I have been using regular cycling carbon pollution face masks too. We also as much as possible always avoid crowds and now abstain from public shared mass transportation with no ventilation as ideal incubation and transfer of invisible Covid hop on hop off high passenger throughput tag. This means innovative ways of daily survival and yes extra monetary costs and lost business and professional opportunities etc. in terms of extended and elder family we have to make very big inconvenient unpleasant changes as no physical in person contact for countless months already (as if we are on different continents but actually long driving distance).

For us as a small family we have only permitted in person schooling as our compromise Covid weak link and potential danger point. I believe (though under close monitoring) that the slight tangible benefits of in school traditional peer learning is still preferable to remote diy technology enabled isolation schooling. We are looking to reduce and reuse as much as possible as instead of unnecessary materialism we all now know what is of real value to life and that includes priceless stuff that money can't buy.

Finally as the UK is such a potential Brexvid disaster we like so many are analysing our next geographical move as if you can't change the system (popular elected Brexshit and plutocracy) then one needs to engage brain and seek solutions be it internationally etc. As it all about change this year so far, so who knows what the next move may be?! Taking the "do whatever it takes" governmental sound bite is the only take home message I will adopt from this government on a personal survival basis.

Stay safe all and remember it's hands, face, space and trace! Though the all important test track and disgrace system is very word beating but evidently at the wrong end of the comparative benchmark metric.

Res,

That is one of the most snobbish and entitled posts I have ever read.

Good luck with your international move. Although, I would be curious to know where you are thinking of that has handled Covid so much better but where your personal tax will not rise dramatically?

While you are isolating yourself and your small family and considering where to flee to, the government is doing their best in very difficult circumstances (albeit pretty badly), doctors are actively saving lives and scientists are working 6 and 7 day weeks to deliver a vaccine in record time (many of the best of them in U.K. universities).

Since lockdown and the clap for caters, we've been having drinks with our neighbours on the front driveways. Obviously there are more than 6 of us, and last night the 8th member of our socially distanced drinks was a policeman. Even he admitted the rules are crazy and make no sense.

So no, I'm not following it religiously. Learnt my lesson the last time with Cummings. Don't trust the govt any more. So I'm using my common sense and parental instincts to do what is right.

I'm very strict about the 2m social distancing thing though, as we all were having our drinks on the driveway.

Hi I do agree with you on some level. I hate people who moan about personal issues like, I can't go shopping to get a dress! Because of lockdown rules. That is so pathetic, and disgusting and I hate people who are complaining about a law, that is for peoples health and safety. If you don't care about yourself don't compromise other people's health, selfish. I do get the government rules don't make sense either and encouraging people to eat out and letting public transport operate during high case levels in lockdown just does not make sense. But, that is no reason to ignore rules because "you can not hang out with friends and family". If the lockdown is going to lower levels of the spread and help us there should be no if and buts. People stop your childish behaviour and stay the fukc home most of the time.
