Water slide wrecked expensive swimsuit /(

Just that really. Went on one of those water slides with a rubber ring today and when I got to the end I had a bruised back and a hole in my swimming costume (expensive)!. I’m pretty gutted tbh.

To be fair, there were instructions on the wall to say to Try to keep your bum off the floor of the slide, and I did try to do this; but the force of the water was pretty intense and I was finding it hard to do - I was being really shoved around like a rag doll by the water (it was one of those ones that pushes you Along).

But surely- a hole in my costume? More than one hole actually - there are two.

Is this my fault, or not?

I have sent an email to the bosses but I’m not sure what kind of response I’ll get.

Hmmmm....

Caveat Bumtor in that situation, I think.

Ilikeviognier · 02/09/2020 20:30

Sorry- what does that mean?

I expect that you will be told that they are not liable and that there was plenty of signage to say that you rode at your own risk.

IME, all slides tear up swimsuits, and that's just something you take into account when you go down them.

Ilikeviognier · 02/09/2020 20:31

Yes you’re probably right. Gutted Sad

BalloonSlayer · 02/09/2020 20:32

How are you supposed to slide down if not on your bum?

Cattiwampus · 02/09/2020 20:33

Try the firm that made the costume.

saveforthat · 02/09/2020 20:33

I would never wear anything expensive on a water slide

FudgeBrownie2019 · 02/09/2020 20:33

The water park won't pay because you chose to go there, read the disclaimers and chose to continue on the rides, and the swimwear manufacturer won't pay because your fanjo has been inside it and thus contaminated it.

Life lesson; go to TKMaxx and buy a Speedo swimsuit for £12 for violent water adventures.

Lolwhat · 02/09/2020 20:35

Don’t wear your best to a water park, always likely to get tatty from all the friction

Ilikeviognier · 02/09/2020 20:36

You were meant to be in the rubber ring- Which I was. But there was a small note advising you to keep your bum off the actual slide itself, easier said than done. It didn’t say that your clothes might be wrecked if You didn’t.

Also the hole/bruise is in my back/back of costume- not my bum. So not connected to sitting in the ring. It must have happened when my back hit something on the slide.

Ilikeviognier · 02/09/2020 20:37

Yeah I shouldn’t have worn it, you’re right. Bummer 🙁

OP posts:
simonisnotme · 02/09/2020 20:38

you chose to wear it, there was a warning at the top of the slide
tough titty or painful bum whichever you prefer (have)

Twickerhun · 02/09/2020 20:39

The swimming costume may not have been fit for purpose if it is damaged that easily. Turn your frustration to the makers, not the owners of the slide. Or accept that you should take responsibility yourself for not looking after expensive clothes carefully enough?

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 02/09/2020 20:39

Big pity for you OP and I’d be gutted (and wincing - ow!) too, but not sure any angry emails to anyone will accomplish anything.

GreyishDays · 02/09/2020 20:42

Where was the swimsuit from? Just wondering how expensive. You might expect more the more expensive I suppose.
I’d be annoyed too but I’m not sure where liability lies.

Ilikeviognier · 02/09/2020 20:42

You may have a point that Is worth considering- I’ll think about it- thanks.

As for stuff being wrecked- I see your point but they should make the warning more explicit if it’s really that likely. “If you don’t do x. X will happen” or “by riding on this slide, you risk x”. I wouldn’t have expected Holes in clothes from a water slide.

@Cattiwampus

Try the firm that made the costume.
My thoughts exactly , because it's expensive doesn't make it quality If it makes you feel better I bought an expensive costume that I couldn't get wet 🙄 Never thought to check
DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 02/09/2020 20:44

I feel like this is a bit like going ro go ape or something and complaining you got a hole in your trousers. These things happen because of the nature of the activity and its why you wear appropriate clothing

Your going to get bruises on a water slide. If you went to a play park you wouldnt conplain about bruises or a hole in your DCs trousers. Its a slide!

Bluntness100 · 02/09/2020 20:45

Yeah you use these things at your own risk, you’d need to prove they were negligent, which they clearly weren’t. You saw what the slide was like, and chose to get on and have a go.

And the swimming costume manufacturers are gonna tell you they were for swimming in and not designed for rough water slides and it’s not their problem.

Sorry op, this ones on you.

Bluntness100 · 02/09/2020 20:47

My thoughts exactly , because it's expensive doesn't make it quality

More it doesn’t make it tough material suitable for water slides.

zaphodbeeble · 02/09/2020 20:47

Of course it’s your fault

Ilikeviognier · 02/09/2020 20:47

Bummer. Ok thanks guys. Gutted. Sad

@Ilikeviognier

Sorry- what does that mean?
Caveat Bumptor. It's a subtle joke. I means; "Let the bum beware!!"
