Water slide wrecked expensive swimsuit /(

Ilikeviognier · 02/09/2020 20:27

Just that really. Went on one of those water slides with a rubber ring today and when I got to the end I had a bruised back and a hole in my swimming costume (expensive)!. I’m pretty gutted tbh.

To be fair, there were instructions on the wall to say to Try to keep your bum off the floor of the slide, and I did try to do this; but the force of the water was pretty intense and I was finding it hard to do - I was being really shoved around like a rag doll by the water (it was one of those ones that pushes you Along).

But surely- a hole in my costume? More than one hole actually - there are two.

Is this my fault, or not?

I have sent an email to the bosses but I’m not sure what kind of response I’ll get.

Sod’s Law says that you could go down the same slide a dozen times in an old swimsuit without so much as pulling a thread, @Ilikeviognier - but go down it once in a posh one, and you get holes and bruises.

Hmm

I think the issue is (you'll be pleased to know) your bum is too small and so goes through the hole of the rubber ring.
The way I see it you only have two options,

  1. Don't use water slides.
  2. Get a bigger bum.
PlanDeRaccordement · 02/09/2020 21:55

Most expensive swimsuits aren’t for swimming. They’re really to make you look fantastic lounging by the pool. I read some exposure article about how the designer swimsuits are more for modelling than swimming because they are not made to be sturdy and withstand activity.

ZarkingBell · 02/09/2020 21:58

How are you meant to know this? I only have one swimsuit at a time. For swimming.
I didn't know that water slides would damage one? I'd be really pissed off!

AyeCorona1 · 02/09/2020 21:59

I don't think I've ever paid more than a tenner for any swimsuit/bikini. Shouldn't have been ripped though.

Go on OP, tell us which swimsuit you got and how much it cost

Heygirlheyboy · 02/09/2020 22:00

Roaring at the thought of bikini bottoms being forced off/shredded GrinBlush That is a nightmare!! Op What a PlTA.

Fallsballs · 02/09/2020 22:01

OP - I need to know how much the swimsuit cost. I have a nice one and a swimming one/more industrial and not sexy. The nice one isn’t sexy btw, just nicer.

It’s just common sense that they have the potential to; the friction and vigorous activity is going to take its toll and if you have an expensive but useless swimsuit it won’t survive.

Signs shouldn’t have to have every single thing that could go wrong on them; a simple warning and then using your common sense is enough.

Be as pissed off as you want but it’s nobody else’s fault.

DancyNancy · 02/09/2020 22:11

I'd gently advise.. it's a swimming costume....please don't be 'gutted' over a swimming costume....

GreyShadow · 02/09/2020 22:13

@toomanyplants did you have a second date? If you did was it bungee jumping??

I too want to see a pic of aforementioned swimwear and the price!!!

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 02/09/2020 22:14

how much was the swimsuit?

honeygirlz · 02/09/2020 22:14

@DancyNancy really?! I’m gutted when a lovely item of clothing is ruined, especially when I haven’t got many wears of it. I remember every top/dress I burnt with my iron. It’s absolutely ok to feel gutted for a while and then move on. It’s human nature.

Ilikeviognier · 02/09/2020 22:18

“Gutted” is a bit extreme I admit. And I speak as someone who has known actual tragedy so yes, that’s True.

Re the price- not sure I can win- there- there will just be lots of replies saying I shouldn’t have worn it in that case, but the fact is that I didn’t expect to get it wrecked by a one off go on a water slide.

Thanks for the replies. And yes, primark swimsuit next time.

Who cares what Anonymous people on the internet think about the price!!! I need to know ;)

toomanyplants · 02/09/2020 22:24

@GreyShadow we did!!! Alton towers!
I was young and fearless....those were the days!

Chloemol · 02/09/2020 22:29

Yes it’s your fault

MeanMrMustardSeed · 02/09/2020 22:29

I can’t believe the restraint on this thread! I wanted to know how much the costume cost since the third post! Please put us out of our misery OP. I’m guessing £75

bamboothrough · 02/09/2020 22:30

I’m guessing £225

RozHuntleysStump · 02/09/2020 22:36

Fgs. How much was it? Where was it from? What does it look like? I can’t bear these types of threads

Lozz22 · 02/09/2020 22:38

Learnt that lesson years ago in Florida when my nice new swimming costume got wrecked when I sat at the edge of the wave pool in Blizzard beach. The surface was rough to stop people slipping on it so every time a wave came and pushed me backwards I was literally scuffling my costume on it. Now I wear an old one when I go to a water park. I also had the same issue on one of those slides in typhoon lagoon although I'm not quite sure how my fat arse managed to fit all the way through the tire in the first place 😅 the bruising and grazes to my bum and lower back were corking!! One of my favourite slides at the time though so probably too much riding on it wouldn't have helped much

Nikori · 02/09/2020 22:43

My friend lost the bottoms of her bikini altogether! On the same type of jets that push you along......she ended up facing backwards so the force was pushing them down - she was desperately trying to keep hold of the ring and her bottoms and the string got caught on one side, she pulled the other and off they went! At least that’s how she describes it.....she was screaming her head off! Thankfully they followed her down to the landing pool....and people weren’t quite at the “carry smart phone everywhere and film it” stage. Funniest thing ever (for me and the other friends grin )

Oh, my! That's just so funny!!

I'm also dying to know how expensive the OP's suit was.

I think they do have warnings up that it's at your own risk. I can't imagine there was anything sharp on the actual waterslide. That would be really dangerous.

I remember when I was a kid and visited CP. I was on the wild river waterslide and ended buried in some random bloke's crotch. Poor bloke looked utterly traumatised.

Cheap cossie next time, OP. You live and learn.

Lozz22 · 02/09/2020 22:51

@honeygirlz

I used to love water parks but last time I went to Turkey I went on a water slide that said to sit up in the slide. I was dubious as I thought the force would make me lie down, and I was right. The ride was so fast I smacked my head so hard that I couldn’t stand up in the pool and the guard had to get me out. Never again. I asked ex to take me to a doctor as the pain was bad and I may have concussion. He refused, saying don’t be silly Sad . We flee home the next day and I went to the GP who said I probably did have concussion Sad
Ugh that happened to me on a slide in Florida. It was a 2 racer slide that had a bump in the middle. You sat at the top in a rubber ring behind a raised platform and then once the platform was released you and the other person raced down. I was that busy trying to keep my tire straight cos it was turned with the force of the water and I didn't want to go down backwards because of how steep it was so I must've angled myself oddly. Went down the first bit, hit the bump and literally catapulted through the air completely missing the second part of the slide and whacked my head on the edge of the slide landing at the bottom. Didn't half bloody hurt and I lost my baseball cap that I'd forgotten to take off. Life guard had to rescue it for me. Needless to say I didn't go back on it after that! I've been known to queue for ages to go on a slide, get right to the top and then chicken out and have to walk all the way back down again. Most of the time it's not actually the slide itself I'm worried about it's the water at the bottom of it, I hate coming off a slide and hitting the water unexpectedly and feeling like I'm drowning. Also why I prefer slides where you sit in a ring bar the one I nearly brained myself on
starfishmummy · 02/09/2020 22:58

exoensive swimsuits twnd to just be for oarading round in and not for actually using to swim or on water slides

SentientAndCognisant · 02/09/2020 22:59

Parading around in 😂such a granny phrase and not wholly complimentary
