Water slide wrecked expensive swimsuit /(

Just that really. Went on one of those water slides with a rubber ring today and when I got to the end I had a bruised back and a hole in my swimming costume (expensive)!. I’m pretty gutted tbh.

To be fair, there were instructions on the wall to say to Try to keep your bum off the floor of the slide, and I did try to do this; but the force of the water was pretty intense and I was finding it hard to do - I was being really shoved around like a rag doll by the water (it was one of those ones that pushes you Along).

But surely- a hole in my costume? More than one hole actually - there are two.

Is this my fault, or not?

I have sent an email to the bosses but I’m not sure what kind of response I’ll get.

Hmmmm....

Caveat Bumtor in that situation, I think.

🤣

@Ilikeviognier

You may have a point that Is worth considering- I’ll think about it- thanks.

As for stuff being wrecked- I see your point but they should make the warning more explicit if it’s really that likely. “If you don’t do x. X will happen” or “by riding on this slide, you risk x”. I wouldn’t have expected Holes in clothes from a water slide.

I would, they aren't the most sedate activity and swimming costumes are thin.

Is it possible you did it with your finger nails while trying to hold onto the rubber ring?
If it was that fast and you were trying to hold on it might easily have happened.

Can't believe you emailed the water park company!

I would have chalked it up to not sitting in the rubber ring correctly/a swimsuit not cut out for water slides...

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/09/2020 21:23

I know they didn't spell out that it might rip your costume OP but what did you think the warning was about?

It's a shame but I thought everyone knew that water slides weren't good for swim suits?

I'm a scaredy cat so never been down one but my DH and DSs have sometimes left a water park a bit, "cheeky"...

JanewaysBun · 02/09/2020 21:23

I want to know how much the costume was now... £200?

bananaskinsnomnom · 02/09/2020 21:24

I feel your pain OP - I love water parks and water slides but the ones you’re describing (with the jets that push you along and up) can be rather lethal! Bum slightly too low and you’ll get a huge wedgie for one thing.....

My friend lost the bottoms of her bikini altogether! On the same type of jets that push you along......she ended up facing backwards so the force was pushing them down - she was desperately trying to keep hold of the ring and her bottoms and the string got caught on one side, she pulled the other and off they went! At least that’s how she describes it.....she was screaming her head off! Thankfully they followed her down to the landing pool....and people weren’t quite at the “carry smart phone everywhere and film it” stage. Funniest thing ever (for me and the other friends Grin )

A bruise on the bum - par for the course really. No way to avoid the odd bump really - speed and bumping is dependant on angle and position you’re in at any given moment and often your weight affects your ride as well - Can’t avoid them for everyone. Bumped heads not funny - always lay down!

Next time, bums up!

Pikachubaby · 02/09/2020 21:25

Bad luck, I learned as a youngster to give myself a wedgie before going down water slide, as it makes you go much faster and you save your swimsuit from wearing out...

Next time tuck it in Grin

toomanyplants · 02/09/2020 21:26

This has reminded me of a incident a few years back, with my then boyfriend on a date at an indoor water park (way back when I was thin enough to not be horrified at the thought of wearing swimwear for a date....many years back actually)
I shredded a pair of bikini bottoms going down a slide. There was barely enough of them left to cover my swift exit.
I've been cautious since, no way would I wear anything I was even mildly fond of to go down a slide. They're like bloody cheese graters.

BoneAppleTeaa · 02/09/2020 21:26

I also am wanting to see this swimsuit!

Fatted · 02/09/2020 21:28

You need to tell us where the costume was from now OP! Was is expensive as in 'looks nice for holiday' or expensive as in decent sports brand.

I must admit, I save my hideously frumpy sports swimming costumes for water parks, mainly because I'm too worried about my boobs escaping from anything remotely fashionable.

Palavah · 02/09/2020 21:28

Your contract is with the retailer of the swimsuit. If it's relatively new then if it got a hole on it that easily it's unlikely to be fit for purpose.
But yeah, next time wear board shorts.

Thinkingg · 02/09/2020 21:29

Sorry OP, it's frustrating, but think it's your own mistake for wearing an expensive swimsuit to a water park. It would be like going quadbiking in a posh dress.

Dahlietta · 02/09/2020 21:31

I have been on a fair few waterslides and never felt at risk of having my arse exposed...!

Sennetti · 02/09/2020 21:32

why does someone have to be liable?

it happened.....you chose to do an extreme activity wearing it!

Thinkingg · 02/09/2020 21:32

I have also holed a swimsuit on a water slide, luckily it was not excessively expensive (and it was a small hole in the middle of the back so i just ignored it for years, occasionally leading to older ladies politely informing me about it in changing rooms Grin)

Appreciated! 😂😂😂

Don’t be ridiculous. Talk about having to literally spell every tiny detail out to people of what could happen so they don’t have to engage their own brain and use some common sense.

Piglet89 · 02/09/2020 21:37

@Palavah the amateur lawyers are out in force, I see.

Could have been worse. I know someone who had her whole swimsuit torn apart by a water slide. She couldn't get out of the plunge pool at the bottom because her hoo-ha was completely on show.
The Spanish life guards were whistling and gesticulating for her to get out and not being patient about it.
