Water slide wrecked expensive swimsuit /(

Just that really. Went on one of those water slides with a rubber ring today and when I got to the end I had a bruised back and a hole in my swimming costume (expensive)!. I’m pretty gutted tbh.

To be fair, there were instructions on the wall to say to Try to keep your bum off the floor of the slide, and I did try to do this; but the force of the water was pretty intense and I was finding it hard to do - I was being really shoved around like a rag doll by the water (it was one of those ones that pushes you Along).

But surely- a hole in my costume? More than one hole actually - there are two.

Is this my fault, or not?

I have sent an email to the bosses but I’m not sure what kind of response I’ll get.

I'm guessing £150!

Higher or lower OP?

Daftasabroom · 02/09/2020 23:04

HRTFT there have been a significant number of incidents on water slides since the lifting of to lockdown, largely due to the new/increased chemical regime. Water parks are being sued due to some very serious injuries. I'd expect you should at least get to he cost of your costume.

A waterslide in France that went into a lake completely ripped off my swimsuit from the bottom is I was left with it just around my top half {I was about 11} It was so upsetting...I stayed for ages in the water until I could run for my towel.

oakleaffy · 02/09/2020 23:20

@Northernsoullover

Could have been worse. I know someone who had her whole swimsuit torn apart by a water slide. She couldn't get out of the plunge pool at the bottom because her hoo-ha was completely on show. The Spanish life guards were whistling and gesticulating for her to get out and not being patient about it.
So it happens to others, too...Poorly maintained waterslides {the one that tore my costume} was metal with wooden sides -pretty oldskool.
AvoidingRealHumans · 02/09/2020 23:23

Oh just tell us how much it cost

Palavah · 03/09/2020 01:02

And I speak as someone who has known actual tragedy so yes, that’s True

I really hope you mean this ironically, or in the literary sense.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 03/09/2020 01:08

The swimming costume may not have been fit for purpose
the purpose was probably posing glamorously by a pool - not actually moving, letting rip at a waterpark - or probably even swimming Grin

honeygirlz · 03/09/2020 03:37

@Lozz22 ouch! Sorry that happened to you! Yes I also prefer slides where you sit in a ring, it feels like there’s less chance of hitting your head.

The worst ones are where the slides starts when you’re standing almost upright, slightly tilted, and the floor/slot gives way beneath you, plunging you into the slide. I wouldn’t be able to do those now!

DaisyDreaming · 03/09/2020 06:03

Are you in the uk? I haven’t been on a water slide in years but couldn’t believe the difference between the painful uk ones (which left a huge gap in my mums swimsuit exposing her bum to everyone) and the american smooth ones. I think it’s worth emailing, I wouldn’t expect them to refund it but they should know that people are getting bruised up and swimsuits ripped on their slides

ShinyMe · 03/09/2020 06:45

Just as an aside on expensive costumes - not all of them are money wasting, parading around ones. If you're unlucky enough to have enormous boobs that need an underwired bra top inside the costume, they're not at all cheap, and are essential.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 03/09/2020 06:50

take the costume back saying it was not fit for purpose

EvilPea · 03/09/2020 06:59

Surely the cost is a little bit regardless. I don’t have the money to buy an expensive Cossie but would be equally as gutted as the Op.
The water slide shouldn’t destroy clothes and it certainly shouldn’t have sharp things in that could hurt people.

nosswith · 03/09/2020 07:30

There are situations that are unfortunate and where no-one is to blame. Maybe this is just one of them.

remainin · 03/09/2020 07:34

There should be swimsuit sales now or soon as it's the end of summer.

eaglejulesk · 03/09/2020 07:46

Swimming costumes are made for swimming, not going down water slides, and there were warnings on the wall - you can't expect them to write down every possible eventuality. You made the decision to go on the water slide, your risk, sorry.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 03/09/2020 08:18

The problem is expensive doesn’t necessarily mean robust- in the context of swimming costumes expensive often means designed for lounging around and looking good rather than messing about in the water. For water parks always use old stuff.

Breastfeedingworries · 03/09/2020 08:21

Is this place in the uk and where is it? X

Ilikeviognier · 03/09/2020 08:26

Ok thanks for the comments everyone.

I’ve actually managed to get a full refund. So good result.

Caveat Bumtor in that situation, I think.

Ahahaa

For the swimming costume or water park?

That's definitely one slide I wouldn't dare go on. I have this vision of standing there waiting for the trap door to open and instead of sliding straight down it normally I just free fall all the way to the bottom 😅 that and the loop slides although apparently carrying some extra junk is meant to help propel you upwards and around the loop so theoretically I'd be ok on those but in reality I'd get half way round and crash back down to the floor and get stuck inside it
