To feel not witty enough for Mumsnet, but too witty for Netmums

They should make another middle of the ground site for people like me. 😂 Is it just me, or do people on Mumsnet seem more "middle class" than people on Netmums?

@LockedInMadness

Also personal attacks on other MNers shows no one in a good light.

Hmmm not seen that at all, what do you mean?
They do discuss threads from over here and the obvious troll threads that always seem to pop up but I've never seen anyone personally attack a mner. You're more likely to get personally attacked here let's be honest, this place can be brutal.

Take a look at the H&M threads. Up untill a couple of days ago they were doing it a lot.
Wheresthesanitygone · 03/09/2020 17:19

Let's just enjoy where we are, that's what's important. For those on another forum, just build up what you've got, we can all co-exist if we try hard enough

This

Sunrise85 · 03/09/2020 17:19

@Wheresthesanitygone oh maybe I got it wrong then. I was talking about a forum that has these following categories under “General”. Off Topic > TV & Film > Rave About > Advice sections....

And it was a thread in the “Advice” section where I saw love hearts and kisses Smile

I didn’t mind either way.

AnneKipanki · 03/09/2020 17:24

There are lots of places on this forum where I don’t post . I suppose they are all the same in the end.

SendHelp30 · 03/09/2020 17:41

@SBTLove Dotty but Dorothy on the BC!

Flube · 03/09/2020 17:53

I'm sure that we can all agree that some like it here and would never use the other place, some prefer the other place over here, and then others like to use both.

But spamming aside, the other place does get mentioned. And not just by those who use it, I have seen it mentioned by those who clearly aren't a fan. Other sites also get mentioned of course, netmums, Reddit etc. It is purely a forum not a 'dodgy site', and no forum can be defined by only one section. The same can be said of MN, some users wouldn't set foot in FWR whereas others despise AIBU. MN isn't written off by one sole area and nor should it.

Now when this place is mentioned, if some are interested in having a look with the view of possibly using both forums and specifically ask for more info, then should passing on the name of the forum be banned? Should their PM's be intercepted and deleted? Should a long term MN poster who shares a link when asked, not spamming for the sake of it, be immediately banned from here?

Because that is what is happening.

Hernameisdeborah · 03/09/2020 18:02

I've seen a hell of a lot of bashing of named MNers on the other site. Especially those from the H&M threads. It doesn't sit at all well with their declarations of being a small and friendly site - it really isn't a 'nice' forum! Some posters on there brag about spamming Mumsnet as well, daring each other to post something hilarious on MN threads. They are just like a bitchy group who got kicked out of the cool gang and are filled with resentment because of it. Reddit discusses MNers too, but with more balance and humour, and nowhere near as much spite.

Babs709 · 03/09/2020 18:12

Not knowing the name of the other thread is killing me

HOkieCOkie · 03/09/2020 19:04

@ElizabethMainwaring I did yes haha oops

SendHelp30 · 03/09/2020 19:37

I kind of think they brought it on themselves tbh. There was a lot of gleeful spite and deliberate misinformation being pushed ON MN to get people to jump ship. That’s not on, and doesn’t really fit in with the spirit of ‘oh la la it’s just another site - what on earth could possibly be the problem?’ It’s a little disingenuous. Deliberate posting on MN about the site going down the shitter was a bit much, to advertise someone’s alternate site. A teeny overstep. How AWFUL that mnhq won’t let them do that any more Grin
Sunrise85 · 03/09/2020 20:06

@SendHelp30 hope so as that’s the one I meant! Grin

Nope Grin. Do a search as suggested upthread.

bluecoffeecups · 03/09/2020 20:12

Well I've just been over to NetMums and to be honest, 99.9% of it seems to be about babies and little kids and adverts for nappies taking up half the page, which is all in the dim and distant past for me. It took me ages to find anywhere on there for general chat threads. And then when I finally located the threads, they were pretty dull anyway.

As for Voldemort the chat room that shall not be mentioned I've been on there a few times, seems ok.

Sunrise85 · 03/09/2020 20:35

Well crap on a cracker ShockShock

Flube · 03/09/2020 20:53

'Themselves' being all 1700 members, as opposed to a few?

By that reasoning I suppose we may as well say that all MN users are trolls and should be banned.

As far as this site going down the shitter, who can say? But there has been a sizeable drop in the amount of visitors, during lockdown too, when theoretically you would expect more. It's all there online, and no not from the other place.

Flube · 03/09/2020 20:55

Apologies, my above post was in response to @nachthexe. I thought I had quoted.

2Rebecca · 03/09/2020 21:01

I don't do witty, too much effort and a bit pretentious. Netmums just sounds a bit wet and people pleasing.

Try sarcasm instead Grin

@Flube

Apologies, my above post was in response to *@nachthexe*. I thought I had quoted.
By ‘themselves’ I was referring to those who had set up the new site, rather than all the members lol. If you are after an advertising campaign, you catch more flies with honey. Even Trump doesn’t send out his campaign materials through Biden’s email account Grin And as far as I know, Nike don’t pay to run Adidas ads. Grin It’s kinda cute though, in a spectacularly misguided way, to complain that mn won’t allow advertising of their direct competition. Direct competition who built themselves literally on mn. And who are still a bit obsessed by it. You’d think they would just crack on if there are so many faults with it 🤷‍♀️
picklemewalnuts · 03/09/2020 21:29

Earlier up the thread someone commented on the use of non standard emojis. A poster here that uses assistive tech said that it can't 'read' the usual emojis, just the MN ones. I try to stick to them as a result.

1Micem0use · 03/09/2020 21:29

Create your own site. Intermamas or something

I use the Windows ones... they work fine on here... 😃😎🎁💟🤡🐦

Actually made me lol irl

Interesting that you refer to the other place as MN's 'direct competition.' That in itself says a lot.

But then I have no vested interest here and cannot understand why some posters insist on vehemently taking sides. It's almost as if those posters take any slight criticism of MN to be personal insult.
