To feel not witty enough for Mumsnet, but too witty for Netmums

They should make another middle of the ground site for people like me. 😂 Is it just me, or do people on Mumsnet seem more "middle class" than people on Netmums?

OP posts:

Does it begin with a t?

KitchenDancefloor · 03/09/2020 00:33

@GreyShadow check your messages!

WinterAndRoughWeather · 03/09/2020 00:33

@singersarp

Mumsnet seems to have a large contingent of posters with lots of trauma and fairly heavy mental health issues. It's gotten less and less witty over the years.
Interesting. This exact same thing happened on another forum I used to be on. The new members policed the tone and changed it, prompting a splinter group of old members to leave and create their own forum. That failed to take off and eventually the original one dwindled to nothing too. Maybe it’s the fate of all forums.

And it's only got 1,700 members!!!

ErrolTheDragon · 03/09/2020 00:47

The first 'splinter group' to leave MN was donkeys' years ago ... yet MN isn't exactly dwindling. Evolving, shifting demographics over the years maybe. That's not necessarily a bad thing. In the early days membership was to some extent restricted because internet access wasn't ubiquitous let alone smart phones. MN is 20 - there are parents now who are younger.

GreyShadow · 03/09/2020 00:51

Ah yes the Moldies or whatever .... I wasn't invited!! Obvs not cool enough :)

LockedInMadness · 03/09/2020 01:26

It's only been up and running for a few months though.
PhilSwagielka · 03/09/2020 02:10

Oh now I’m intrigued. I think I know what you mean as well. 👀

Meghan and Harry were the first topic that caught my eye.

@ChickenFriedFudge I used to work with a dickhead who would say “I like my coffee like I like my women: hot and sweet” every time someone did a drinks run during a shift.
Every single time.

(He liked it sugary and white, which quietly amused me)

I said the strong dark and bitter in self defence, really, because lamping him would be unprofessional.

longtimelurkerfirsttimeposter · 03/09/2020 08:23

@Timeforanewone thank you, wasn't what I was thinking of

labellesusage · 03/09/2020 08:28

@Babs709

Thank you BBC, I’ll be back with the results.

I'm technically middle class based on that. But it didn't give my husbands trade. And hobbies. Hhmmm do I lower the tone of class by listening to Slipknot? 🤘🏻 I see myself as working class but class is irrelevant imo
crabb · 03/09/2020 08:30

Thanks, @Timeforanewone. I’m shocked at how much it looks like MN (i.e. the actual appearance, colour etc). A pretender to the throne Shock

cricketmum84 · 03/09/2020 08:33

I love mumsnet as long as I stay away from certain areas.

The vitriol directed at trans people on here is sickening at times. I have a trans daughter and would never let her read some of the trash I've seen posted here!!

FrangipaniBlue · 03/09/2020 08:39

Thanks @Timeforanewone my search history currently looks like this and I was still no closer to finding it 🤣🤣

Had a look as well. Not really impressed. Very bitchy . Agree very like MN. Blue back ground. Don't think I will be eloping anytime now. But may keep peeping to see if a thread is made based on this 😂
GreyShadow · 03/09/2020 09:20

Omg my thread has been hidden!!! What the fuck is mumsnet scared of!!!

This is a first for me in my 16 years of being in mnet!

And this my dear mumsnet HQ is my first EVER Biscuit

Why are you hiding clues to the new website????

labellesusage · 03/09/2020 09:25

There's not much competition either with Mumsnet and the site that can not be named.
Mumsnet is way better. Got kicked off netmums for having a sense of humour 🙄

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 03/09/2020 09:25

Well I admit I went running over to the 'other place' like it was Black Friday but had to come crawling back here when to be honest it just kept talking about HERE. I admire the intention though.

MichaelMumsnet · 03/09/2020 09:39

Hi all. The 'new website' is one of a number of dodgy sites which have spammed the boards with links. So obviously we're not keen to give them any publicity, hence the deletions.

We're fine for members to recommend other websites here - but we try to steer clear of the worst of the spammy ones.

Live and let live and all that - but if your site's so good then pay to advertise like everyone else.

Flube · 03/09/2020 09:49

That's a load of bollocks Michael and you know it. There is nothing dodgy about the site. It's just a forum like any other. Folk are pissed of with the heavy handed moderation, as proven with the deletions in this thread. Hence the move over there.

However many people enjoy using several different forums to discuss different topics, and I fail to see why this is any different. It doesn't have to be an either or.

Awaits my deletion or dare I say even a ban. Because let's face it, anybody who dares criticise any mods, instant ban. Perhaps you should look at it as constructive criticism rather than an insult.

Camomila · 03/09/2020 09:53

Having a tutor is so middle class.
Lots of WC immigrant families have tutors too. I had a tutor to help me learn English and my parents were on benefits (he did it cheaper for them than others) When I finished uni I paid it forward and tutored a little boy whose mum spoke Egyptian (again, for cheaper than the going rate).
DH is Asian from a poor bit of London and they (him, his bro and friends) all had piano lessons.

longwayoff · 03/09/2020 09:56

Oh tut @LockedInMadness, I do believe you meant to say fewerBiscuit

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/09/2020 10:12

They most certainly did spam the boards here. Their recruiting sergeants were most unpleasant - right here on the boards and by PM - about Justine, MNHQ and how Mumsnet was going broke and urging others to join them on the wonderful new site.

They were and are trolling here. Not surprised MNHQ were pissed off and decided not to allow them any free publicity.
