To feel not witty enough for Mumsnet, but too witty for Netmums

They should make another middle of the ground site for people like me. 😂 Is it just me, or do people on Mumsnet seem more "middle class" than people on Netmums?

Blimey this is reminding me of the "strapping babies to rockets" fiasco! Where almost everything mentioning GF was deleted!

Just don't get the over deleting of messages etc, it's making the website more interesting than it actually is.

Flube · 03/09/2020 11:31

It is happening, without so much as the typical "on your way" email for many. That's partly why so many are dissatisfied. I can't prove it of course, how on earth can I? But lots of us know it has happened to many.

I have to say, I like the FWR here. But the heavy handed approach puts me off much else. Sad really, because I used to find MN a useful resource.

I think the reason people like the other site is that you have have a debate with opposing views without the hysteria and bitchiness which often happens here. Also there are fewer deletions, and there’s no “party line” to toe. Lots of people migrated there for being banned from here for reasons they didn’t fully understand.
I’m on both but there are some threads I would never dare post on here having seen some extreme reactions.
Having said that there’s a wealth of information here about different topics, so I guess it all depends on what you want. 🤷‍♀️

LittleGwyneth · 03/09/2020 13:58

I'm a bit ashamed of how much I care, but PLEASE will someone tell me what the other place is? It's basically all I can think about.

I Googled " forum like Mumsnet" and found it that way. I thought it was pretty rubbish!

AnneKipanki · 03/09/2020 14:27

Sorry, I have to leave your question unanswered @LockedInMadness and @GreyShadow .

Done it!

Gosh I like it over there. Just had a nose.

Very good advice & good humour Grin

I Googled " forum like Mumsnet" and found it that way. I thought it was pretty rubbish!

I found it too. It seems kind of like a smaller, less interesting version of MN. The threads are a mixture of ones that are exactly like MN ones, and threads which say "Ooh have you seen that really awful/offensive thread on MN about x, y or z?!", and start off by saying how awful it is, but end up basically exactly the same as the MN thread they're criticising Grin. And as soon as anyone says something a bit sharp or takes offense, there's a kind of nervous giggle and people say "No, let's be nice - we're beginning to sound like the other place!" and then just carry on as they were.

I think the reason people like the other site is that you have have a debate with opposing views without the hysteria and bitchiness which often happens here.

Really? One of the first threads I clicked on was a prime example of failing to have civilised, reasonable debate. There was no difference in tone to MN. Unsurprising really, since it's not MN itself that makes threads bitchy or hysterical, it's human beings!

Roussette · 03/09/2020 15:58

You can tell that by just having a nose?! Blimey.

What I don't understand is...
Some posters over there love it. Some posters here love it. Some like both.

Unfortunately, over there they can't seem to drop MN as a huge source of discussion. Not just the site, but the posters too. What is the point in just picking up on threads from here to nitpick and ridicule endlessly. Without MN or its posters to drone on about, will it actually survive?

Banging on about MN does that forum no favours whatsoever, and TBH I imagine some who go over might be put off by that. Also personal attacks on other MNers shows no one in a good light.

I also find the vilification of Justine MN and some of the moderators from here quite horrible.

Post where you want, but stop the pulling down of MN. I've been here since dinosaurs roamed the earth and I quite like it!

@Babdoc

Incidentally, when I started on MN, I thought that biscuit emoji was a pic of a breast, and meant that you thought the previous poster was a tit! I suppose that wasn’t too far off the mark, actually... Grin
This really made me laugh @Babdoc It absolutely does look like a tit and that's how I'll think of it from now on!
lazylinguist · 03/09/2020 16:13

Exactly. It feels like when a couple of schoolgirls have been ousted from a popular clique and go and set up their own clique which is going to be sooo different and much better, only they end up like a pale imitation of the one they left and spend their whole time bitching about it! It's very Mean Girls.

Well said @Roussette!

Just ignore them then .
Let them be .

Some obviously were made to feel unwanted here any more . It is a very young and small forum .
Mumsnet is huge and gets discussed about.
Reddit also discusses threads from here and names from here . You only have to google that . National newspapers discuss threads and names here too .

LockedInMadness · 03/09/2020 16:34

Hmmm not seen that at all, what do you mean?
They do discuss threads from over here and the obvious troll threads that always seem to pop up but I've never seen anyone personally attack a mner. You're more likely to get personally attacked here let's be honest, this place can be brutal.

They need to stop spamming MN then if they want us to let them be.

Read the many M and H threads over there . Plenty of PA on MNers on those threads.

"Read the many M and H threads over there . Plenty of PA on MNers on those threads."

To be fair, it has been pointed out on some threads there that naming posters isn't on and the ones I was reading it did stop when other's agreed. Not sure about on the H&M threads though. I do agree that it makes me very uncomfortable though.

What site was that on? Can’t be the one people are talking about as there isn’t an advice forum. Wherever it was, if it’s a small site like that one posters get to know each other, no name changes so you know who someone is on the site, and some are going through really difficult times, so it does feel like you’re helping someone you’ve got closer to and sending love to show you care is appropriate. On here it would seem strange as it’s so big and so many name changes it’s not the same connection. Both have their uses.

So you bitch away about people showing they care on the site people are saying is full of mean girls, rather than appreciating people taking time out to help someone who’s struggling.

Roussette · 03/09/2020 17:00

Ye gods, you could not be more wrong. I will not go into it, much as I'd love to but there has been incessant vitriolic posts about named MNers over a long period of time.

I would like to think it's the growing pains of a forum and it's stopped.

Let's just enjoy where we are, that's what's important. For those on another forum, just build up what you've got, we can all co-exist if we try hard enough.
