Bloody Ocado!!

I had just about forgiven them for the lockdown catastrophe where I couldn’t get a delivery for months despite being a long time smart pass holder, delivery every week or 2, usually a reasonable amount etc etc.

They have cancelled my fecking order 2 hours before delivery because of a ‘surge’ in demand. I want my Colin fgs!!

@fluffi

Had my first ocado delivery this week to get some M&S products I've missed. Great experience, on time, only 1 sub (a yoghurt for a yoghurt) and free percy pigs! Smile
Yay to free Percy Pigs - I got some too.
KnowallKnownowt · 05/09/2020 12:55

I will never go back to Ocado after suffering the lockdown dumping from them, despite being a customer of 6 years, with a smart pass and in the shielding group. All other providers messaged me to offer slots and support, but not Ocado. Disgusting treatment. Asda proved to be the hero in my case and I've stuck with them. Big thumbs up for Asda from me Smile.

LittleBearPad · 06/09/2020 09:00

I may split my orders. Branded and household from Ocado - fresh from Waitrose.
The number of missing things and subs yesterday wasn’t great. The whole point of Ocado is that you can see what’s in stock when you order.

Painsnail · 06/09/2020 09:32

Gave the changeover a chance but was really unimpressed with the quality of a lot of the M&S stuff. Tried to place an order for next week and there are hardly any slots and none at a convenient time for me. Placed my order with sainsburys instead. Would rather they just got their act together instead of trying to keep everyone sweet with percy pigs

RingtheBells · 06/09/2020 09:43

Can you choose whether to have substitutes though, with Tesco I choose substitutes for things I need like eggs or milk but if it is a specific item I don’t want a substitute, also it seems you have to pay more if the substitute is more expensive rather than it being price matched

No you can't, tesco is better for that.
BentBastard · 06/09/2020 09:58

The subs issue is the main aspect where the competitors are superior to Ocado in my opinion.

Maybe it wasn't a priority in the past for Ocado because subs were not very common, but they're much more common now than they used to be so I think they either need to get their stock control systems working effectively or make subs more practical.

The main things I would change would be the ability to request no subs for specific items and subs being in specific bag so it doesn't feel like such a ball ache to actually reject them (and which is why I rarely do, but perhaps that's their plan)

Thesearmsofmine · 06/09/2020 14:12

My delivery came on time, I had one sub which was ok and half of my M&S meal deal was missing which was quite annoying! Loads of out of stock products when I was ordering though, mostly everyday basics.

I tend to vary who I shop with anyway so only order from them every couple of months so hopefully by next time things will be more settled.

jessstan2 · 06/09/2020 14:19

What is a Colin?

I use Ocado and so far have had no problems but there are other places. Even Deliveroo if you are desperate for some things; try Co-op deliveries. Iceland also good, Amazon Fresh. Don't forget the other 'big' supermarkets.

Be not downhearted, your Colin will arrive eventually, all the better for having waited.

LittleBearPad · 06/09/2020 15:15

The ability to choose what can/can’t be substituted would be handy - it hasn’t been much of an issue historically as the stock control was good and subs were sensible when they happened. A separate bag would also be helpful though a couple of times recently the drivers given a refund and said to keep it anyway.

This changeover has shown Ocado are yet again not as good as they say they are!

ElizabethMainwaring · 06/09/2020 18:34

@jessstan2
Colin the Caterpillar. He is a cake.
You obviously aren't au fait with m&s!

Oh yes, I bought Colin the Caterpillar Easter eggs this year from M&S. However I can't imagine being desperate for him :-).

TeddyIsaHe · 06/09/2020 20:13

I wasn’t desperate 😂 I was looking forward to eating his chocolatey bum without having to walk to the shops!

I'm cross that the filters for dietary requirements on M&S products seem to be limited to vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and wheat free. One thing I really liked about Ocado before was being able to filter by a really comprehensive range of allergens etc.

They’re also not right. If I tick gluten free, vegetarian and wheat free only 3 things show up and there should be loads more. Percy pigs for instance don’t show up and they’re gluten free and vegi, as are rice cakes.
Hoppinggreen · 06/09/2020 21:47

There’s no Waitrose near me so Ocado was the only way to shop there, no point now it’s all M&S.
Plus I couldn’t get a slot if I wanted one for a week due to “unusual demand”

Are you not able to place an online order with Waitrose direct?

HexyAndIKnowIt · 06/09/2020 23:57

Waitrose delivery comes direct from store not warehouse, so if there is no store nearby there won't be an online option.

ceeveebee · 07/09/2020 00:03

Must be a regional problem depending on which warehouse- my order was delivered on time and only one missing item. Tbh Ocado have been fantastic for us all through lockdown, never late and rarely missing/subbed items.

spongedog · 07/09/2020 00:06

@Polnm

I had over 500 I took them to the tip
You could have samosa'd them and dropped off to the charity shop. It has kept my kids happy for ages folding, and it really is a space saver.
2020notQuiteAsPlanned · 07/09/2020 07:10

2nd Ocado/M&S order about to arrive - no substations so let's hope packing is ok after squashed fruit last time.
I had no problem finding alternatives to the waitrose items I previously order at same or cheaper price.

Will update on quality later.
Just realised that you can order some clothes too which will be handy especially for tights in winter and some D.C. school stuff!

RingtheBells · 07/09/2020 08:45

I have loads of plastic bags from Tesco and use them as bin liners or bagging up clothing for charity bins, are the Ocado ones not suitable for other uses as I see someone took them to the tip, obviously mine end up in much the same place but at least they are used first

ceeveebee · 07/09/2020 11:00

We use our Ocado bags as bin liners, we have hundreds

Ontheboardwalk · 07/09/2020 12:49

RingtheBells Ocado bags are rubbish if you try and use them again. Every bag seems to have a hole or spilt in it

I use them for the cat litter but double bag each time

TeaOneSugar · 08/09/2020 18:27

My delivery driver on Monday wasn't convinced they'll be taking bags back any time soon.
