Bloody Ocado!!

I had just about forgiven them for the lockdown catastrophe where I couldn’t get a delivery for months despite being a long time smart pass holder, delivery every week or 2, usually a reasonable amount etc etc.

They have cancelled my fecking order 2 hours before delivery because of a ‘surge’ in demand. I want my Colin fgs!!

Mine too - on time, no subs

Xiaoxiong · 02/09/2020 14:14

I hope Waitrose has improved its online shopping - I tried them out about 2 years ago after Ocado's twitter thing and had weekly deliveries for a month. It wasn't a patch on Ocado - I didn't realise until then how many products I ordered from Ocado that weren't actually available from Waitrose itself. The drivers were lovely, but I got a lot of short dated stuff, a lot of subs/missing and the worst was that the payment system never worked online so for 4 weeks running I had to wait until the local store opened at 7am and read my card number down the phone before they could release my shopping (this for deliveries that were supposed to arrive between 6 and 7am) and they said it was something to do with their system. After the first week I was understanding, the second week a little annoyed, the third and fourth weeks just incredulous they still hadn't sorted it (and I tried different cards, it was a problem with their payment system not confirming with the store).
I then tried Sainsburys which was really inconvenient for some reason - I only lasted one delivery with them.

Anyway after a month Ocado sent me an apology by email for the complaint I made over their twitter kerfuffle so I went back!

I think all the online supermarkets have their pros and cons - and once you find one that works for you, you become quite "sticky" as a customer and it feels like the end of the world if a system that previously worked like clockwork doesn't work suddenly. But give them a week or two and they should sort it out.

DysonDiva · 02/09/2020 16:30

Okay so this is weird.

I'm just editing next week's order and I can still see Waitrose products.

For the past couple of weeks they were all showing out of stock for this particular order, and my Waitrose favourites had been replaced like for like with an M&S prodcuct. But now Waitrose products are displayed just like before. Confused

Is anyone else seeing the same thing?

BentBastard · 02/09/2020 16:34

I am, which I also thought was odd. Maybe there is some
Left over stock that needs shifting? Don't know whether that's allowed in the contract though. Did you try adding it to your order?

BrightYellowDaffodil · 02/09/2020 16:41

Ocado execs were bragging in the press that Waitrose could never compete with them. Ocado have taken advantage of Covid reliance on online deliveries to maximise profit.

I saw that too in the paper too; most distasteful. I was also baffled as to why they think Waitrose won't be up to delivering their own products when they've run a parallel delivery service for years.

Whyisitsodifficult · 02/09/2020 19:27

Is that right, where did you read that? So they’re not taking them all? I’ve got about three carrier bags worth and they’re stuffed with lots of neatly folded triangles!

Whyisitsodifficult · 02/09/2020 19:28

Sorry that was for @BentBastard

BentBastard · 02/09/2020 19:50

I saw it on Twitter, but there was some confusion because one tweet said as many as you can fit in a bag and another tweet said max 100, but given no driver is going to stand there and count 100+ bags I figure whatever you can get in one bag will be fine.

I think that limit is per delivery so you could do a bagful each delivery.

I'm guessing not more as the whole van would get stuffed with them!

BentBastard · 02/09/2020 19:51

P.s. I have bags filled with the triangle folded bags too. Yet get way more in a bag that way Blush

Pumpkinnose · 02/09/2020 19:52

Can Waitrose please sort their website. It’s not as user friendly as Ocado. Sadly

bakingbernie · 02/09/2020 22:49

I really don't recognise the problems people are describing with Ocado. No issues with stock, they have delivered every single week during lockdown. Lovely drivers. Cut them a bit of slack with the changeover to M&S, it must be a nightmare to organise. I love the way people say they are leaving just because they have failed at this stage. I bet some of them will come back - the lure of M&S will be too strong.

BentBastard · 02/09/2020 23:08

I doubt there's anyone who had the service you described during lockdown talking about leaving purely over the M&S issues. It will be people who've had no end of problems for months and were sticking around to at least give M&S a go only to find it shit for them.

I can see why they then might say sod this for a game of soldiers.

TeddyIsaHe · 03/09/2020 08:08

@bakingbernie I’m not leaving because of one missed delivery, I have shopped with them for years, paid my smart pass fee every month/year and had deliveries every week or 2 for a good amount.

And then when the pandemic hit my loyalty meant fuck all and they left me high and dry. Where Tesco, who I might have done a top up shop and spend £10 a week, had slots every week and saved the day.

What’s the point in being loyal if they screw you over?

I'm going to wait for the Ocado service to settle down so I can stick up with my favourite foods from M&S.

Watching this thread with interest and continuing with my regular online grocery delivery from Waitrose as well. 🌹

DysonDiva · 03/09/2020 09:06

Bent, yes it lets me add the Waitrose products to the trolley. I'm not seeing them in all categories, but this morning Waitrose milk and fish are showing. I may add some milk and see if it actually turns up next week!

So my first delivery since the changeover is due this morning. Will update later.

NormaLouiseBates · 03/09/2020 09:20

What I found most bizarre was they set the date for the big change on 1st Sept, the day after a bank holiday. But Ocado warehouse don't work during the day on bank holidays so ALL of Tuesday's orders were picked and packed on the night shift on Monday which started at 22:00. So no wonder there were loads of problems. I had an order booked for Tuesday morning with lots of M&S stuff and it was all delivered no problem. However, the packers haven't got any more careful - trifle on it's side, cream cake upside down etc... anyone else find that? Drives me up the wall!

jay55 · 03/09/2020 10:04

The website is up the creek, if you browse by shelves it shows all the Waitrose stuff out of stock (duh!) but if you search it finds some things. Too slow going and the M&S stuff isn't in sensible categories.
It's a mess.

FreeButtonBee · 03/09/2020 11:18

they are throwing the vouchers around, I got a £15 off voucher for my two v sensible substitutions neither of which were M&S or Waitrose. I'll take it!

It must be dependent on the hub warehouse they are using. While I'd say I've had a few more subs than in the past they ahve all been absolutely acceptable,

DysonDiva · 03/09/2020 11:54

Teddy, have they made any contact with you to try to make up for the cancellation?
I agree with pp, I think they must have had a problem with a specific hub but as I said way upthread their comms on this has been awful, leaving it for the customer service team to deal with, I've seen no statement from anyone senior which is shocking considering what a balls up Tuesday was.

DysonDiva · 03/09/2020 11:58

So my own delivery arrived on time.
There were two items not available and one sub.

A few items were damaged however - that's unusual for my deliveries. Sometimes one item might be damaged but I can't remember a time when several in the same delivery being damaged.

JacobReesMogadishu · 03/09/2020 16:28

I’ve had my email saying all my shopping is coming apart from a mushroom pizza. No substitute available!

Ontheboardwalk · 04/09/2020 22:07

Had my second Ocado/M&S delivery this week

On times, no subs and nothing damaged (makes a change)

M&S does seem a lot cheaper than it is in their shops

LemonDrizzles · 05/09/2020 09:12

My Ocado was delivered this morning. One (normal) sub. Haven't checked all the cupboard stuff yet but fridge/freezer undamaged. but oddly, I received my order confirmation last night. Typically it's sent a few hours before delivery. Anyone else?

CottonSock · 05/09/2020 09:22

I wonder what I'm paying for at the moment. Do the bulk of my shops with Tesco.

I also tried coop this week. Delivered in two hours from order for 99p. Aimed at smaller amounts. The search function was awful and 3 out of 12 items missing. Will give another try as its convenient and ethical brand etc. Don't think nationwide though.

fluffi · 05/09/2020 09:37

Had my first ocado delivery this week to get some M&S products I've missed. Great experience, on time, only 1 sub (a yoghurt for a yoghurt) and free percy pigs! Smile
