Please say I'm right! I think heels are dated weapons of misogyny!

Phew, that feels better:

My 17 year old daughter is dressing like me in the 80s - stolen trousers of dad then clinched in waist with a huge belt, cropped T shirt/sweat shirt, Dr Marten shoes and a headscarf around her long curls. It is quite something how fashion just comes back round.

Long live young women in clumpy comfy shoes!

LioneIRichTea · 25/08/2020 15:56

I’m not really young (30s) but I haven’t worn heels out for about a decade now. I do like a block heel on a boot now and then but generally it’s flats all the way!

AdoraBell · 25/08/2020 16:01

My teen DDs only wear heels if being driving to a restaurant. Other than that it’s trainers or flat shoes like converse for everything else.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 25/08/2020 16:06

In my 40s and have worn dresses with cons or DMs since forever. I'm nearly 6 feet tall so look like I'm wearing stilts in heels!

ShirleyPhallus · 25/08/2020 16:08

Oh god this is SUCH a trinny and susannah way of describing things. Does it go with a red lip, a nude nail and an ecru trouser?

OverTheRubicon · 25/08/2020 16:11

What does everyone do who has big feet? I'm quite short and slim (and only 32, so want to dress on the younger side) but with size 7s and I love flats, but when I wear trainers with dresses or loafers with fitted trousers they look like clown shoes..

AltogetherAndrews · 25/08/2020 16:20

Haven’t worn heels in over a decade, and wasn’t that big a fan before that.

I think they look very old fashioned, there is a particular look with heels and skinny jeans and a nice top, which always makes me assume the wearer is over 50 at first, no matter what age they turn out to be.

I’m hoping that the younger generation realise what bullshit they are and refuse to engage with shoes you can’t walk in, nails which limit your use of hands, control underwear that limits what you can eat. Men’s clothing tends to be practical, women’s has always been about limiting what women can achieve.

CornedBeef451 · 25/08/2020 16:25

@OverTheRubicon I have the same problem except I'm in my 40s and I need supportive footwear, no baker flats or pointed toes. Whatever I wear ends up looking disproportionately large.

bookmum08 · 25/08/2020 16:26

I am 45 and have never worn heels. I personally think they look horrible. I have never understood the fashion for them.

bearlyactive · 25/08/2020 16:30

I have a pair of kitten heels (I know) but I rarely wear them, I'm in flats most of the time and wedge boots in the winter.

Witchcraftandhokum · 25/08/2020 16:34

I do agree that boots and trainers are very on trend now, But....heels are dated weapons of misogyny Fuck off. I love wearing heels, what does that make me?

RedRumTheHorse · 25/08/2020 16:34

I've gone from wearing flats in my teens and twenties to wearing heels in my 30s and back to wearing flats in my 40s.

Craftycorvid · 25/08/2020 16:36

I think I last wore heels in 1987. In my teens I used to totter around in stilettos and then I saw the light. It’s been DMs and Converse all the way since the. The only time I struggle is smart ‘occasions’ like weddings. If I wear a formal outfit plus the only heels I can bear for a few hours, I look like someone’s 80-year-old aunt - think Hotter, that kind of thing. Blush.

workhomesleeprepeat · 25/08/2020 16:36

Hate to break it to all of your who tortured your poor feet - but you never had to wear heels!

I'm in my 30s, did LOTS of clubbing/raving/partying at all types of venues - and never once did I wear heels all night. Had many a job with an expected manner of dress - no heels. Love seeing that fashion has caught up to ME Grin

Craftycorvid · 25/08/2020 16:36

Since then, darn it!

Yeahnahmum · 25/08/2020 16:37

Dated weapons of misogyny?
You do realise that heels were Invented by men FOR MEN, right !? Although a looooong time ago 😅

Witchcraftandhokum · 25/08/2020 16:38

I'm in my late 40's and can't wear trainers or chunky boots for work, I'm so short not even petite trousers are short enough for me without a heel, and I wouldn't be caught dead in a frumpy court shoe. I love my heels.

JaceLancs · 25/08/2020 16:39

I have every type of footwear from trainers to flats to heels
It depends what I’m wearing and where
Last night went out for a meal with a female friend wearing a shift dress and medium heels - with flats I looked like I’d gained at least a stone
Today I’m wearing skinny jeans and pointed flats
I wear things for myself not anyone else male or female

Friendsoftheearth · 25/08/2020 16:42

Teen dds would not be seen dead in heels, I haven't ever seen anyone under the age of 25 wear heels. So last century!

I think it is wonderful, and hope they remain firmly seen as something the women of yesteryear would wear.

EarlGreywithLemon · 25/08/2020 16:47

I never wore them much, but I stopped wearing them altogether after a knee ligament reconstruction a few years ago. Getting back to wearing heels was seen as a milestone for some fellow patients, but I found I didn’t really care.
Interestingly though, the physio who was treating me warned me against wearing plimsoles/converse/ ballet pumps. Apparently shoes that are completely flat aren’t good for you either. I’m still in mourning for my Supergas!

elfin79 · 25/08/2020 16:52

I'm clearly in the minority as I'm 40, from London, wear heels to work, have worn on them on the tube many a time, wear them to "dress up" an outfit if I'm going to a wedding and find them comfy.

DSD(23) wears chunky trainers or birkies (in the summer) with EVERYTHING and I think sometimes they really don't go with her outfit. She's pretty tall so can understand her not wanting to wear heels but I think a pair of ballerina pumps would look much nicer with a pretty dress than a pair of chunky trainers.

DarkmilkAddict · 25/08/2020 16:53

V gratifying to see women in shoes they can run/dance/feel comfortable all night in. There’s too much fun to be had!

Interesting that the shops are still trying to sell them. Maybe real life is actually ahead of the designers!

CabernetSoWhat · 25/08/2020 16:54

I have massive flipper feet and cankles. Heels give me normal-looking legs. I love them.

nitgel · 25/08/2020 16:56

I'm 50 and wore flats all the time. I now am buying heels as I look so much better in them Grin

nitgel · 25/08/2020 16:57

Still I suppose I don't have a dodgy hip
