Never known anyone to keep leftover takeaway for the next day until DP - always thought it was a one night treat. Think it's a bit odd - is it?

I always reheat rice, but it is never left to cool, but chilled before reheating.

@YetAnotherSpartacus Yup, East Kilbride born & bred & she threw away the lot & says she always does that.

Seriously? Sorry op I think you're the odd one!

Cold pizza, leftover curry, cold pasta...

Raita lasts several days! Not the poppadoms though unfortunately

All delicious and saves waste (portions are always too big!)

Re Scots dil - well if she stays in East Kilbride she can probably afford the waste! Grin

But I agree most self respecting Scots wouldn't DREAM of such profligacy!!

How strange. Save it and eat it for breakfast. Why on earth wouldn't you save it?

This is not a Scottish thing. This is just a her being a weirdo thing.

YABU. If it's a good curry, it's worth enjoying every bit. The flavour is at least as nice next morning.

YABU. It's delicious the day after and anyway, what would you do with the leftovers otherwise? Throw it away? That's ten times more weird and unreasonable.

Doesn’t it have a thick layer of fat on top? I’ve noticed with my Chinese sauces that’s that’s it’s like. Gross

I’m Indian and I say It really depends on the curry and how it’s stored. Curries or dahls with a lot of cream, green chillis, and / or fruit (including nuts) that’s been left out for hours really shouldn’t then be stored and reheated. Back in India dairy or fruit / dry fruit heavy curries are often made to order.

Dishes which are based around natural yoghurt, tomato or ghee / butter can be stored safely even if they have been out for a while. Generally the more traditional a dish is in the UK, the more it’s aimed at people who come from curry eating countries, and the more likely it can be stored safely. For example it takes a lot for kadhi (yoghurt soup) or moong / toor dahl to go off.

Almost all Indian / Pakistani / Bangladeshi breads are designed to be stored and eaten the next day - they actually shouldn’t be refrigerated as it makes them hard. Same with rice - but you need to know how to reheat / recook rice safely.

The thick layer of fat stops the dish from growing mould or attracting insects. Adding ghee or fat to the top of a dish a very, very good way to increase it’s shelf-life. In India it’s needed even when cooked fresh, but in the UK I would watch out for dishes with a lot of fat on the top — they might have been cooked and even packaged a day or two before.

I haven't RTFT, but I hope this is 13 pages of people saying leftover curry is even better the next day than the night before. It's one of the greatest pleasures of having a curry - takeaway or home-cooked - at all. if we are having takeaway then you need to order just a little bit more than you would properly want for dinner, in order not to feel regretful when it comes to breakfast time and there's none left.

I have to ask you have managed to get to your age (I am assuming you are an adult?) without even hearing being do leftovers?

we are to lazy and not organised enough to do them but it is not some state secret throwing away perfectly good food is beyond odd

Google "Frying pan reheating of pizza"

I swear, it tastes better the day after than the time it was delivered!

As per the previous 13 pages, YABU. Leftover curry, pizza etc the next day is part of the joy of takeaway!

@alliejay81

I always buy two extra portions of Taarka Dhal and freeze them. I then use the extra dhal as a side with homemade curry. (My dhal is rubbish - think I buy the wrong lentils).

Try it eith split peas - mine was the same until I did this

I also buy more than we can manage and reheat the next day, it tastes better then!

Eating yesterday's pizza is weird but my daughter's family loves it and orders extra so there's enough for breakfast the following day. Shudder. Yesterday's curry, however, well, I expect you know the form by now. YABU.

The best thing about most takeaways is that that’s breakfast/lunch sorted for the next day. YABVU.

Not odd at all. They give you way too much for one portion, it tastes better the next day, and it’s much less wasteful.

Why would you bin perfectly good food? That’s what’s odd to me!
