Never known anyone to keep leftover takeaway for the next day until DP - always thought it was a one night treat. Think it's a bit odd - is it?

tbh we rarely have leftovers.

dentydown · 14/08/2020 22:51

When I used to go out for a meal with dp, I N couldn’t eat all my curry. We used to bag it up and he would have it the next day!

Leftover curry on toast - best breakfast ever!

hoxtonbabe · 14/08/2020 22:57

@JingsMahBucket

I’ve really heard it all now. 45 years, been eating the stuff practically daily from 8 months old and never have I or my family ever had food poisoning from rice. I’ve never had food poisoning full stop, all my aunts, uncles my mum and dad etc that lived to a good age, never suffered with poisoning from rice based meals.

I dated a Japanese man, rice and noodles was his staple and he would have rice sitting in his rice cooker all day, no harm ever came to him (or me). I’ve bought a Chinese from Chinatown, trekked it home eaten it 2 hours sometimes more after purchasing it, I stick it in the
Microwave and everything is fine...

Mmmm, now I want Soya chicken with rice, choi sum and the garlic and ginger condiment that you only tend to get in Chinatown takeaways. This whole thread is making me want to cook an Asian feast tomorrow 😄

AlwaysLatte · 14/08/2020 22:59

Why is it odd? I think it's odd to put perfectly good food in the bin! It's great for lunch in a jacket potato next day. But bin the rice.

JingsMahBucket · 14/08/2020 23:21

@YinuCeatleAyru

for a splendid brunch, put a couple of spoons of last night's curry into a ramekin, then crack in an egg and bake till the white is set but the yolk is still a bit runny. serve with wholemeal toast or leftover naan toasted.
This right here is genius.
Ceebs85 · 14/08/2020 23:21

I've never met anyone who doesn't save it!

JingsMahBucket · 14/08/2020 23:23

@hoxtonbabe exactly. These folks are a mess. SMH.

Choppedupapple · 14/08/2020 23:25

I love next day curry. Yabu and yabw

AvoidingRealHumans · 14/08/2020 23:27

Where's op?

UmmH · 14/08/2020 23:29

I get annoyed if the take away portion isn't big enough to save for the next day.

As for rice, I eat so much of it I must be immune to whatever bacteria is supposed to be in it. As I don't like reheating refrigerated rice (don't have a microwave, and hob heating ruins the texture), I will often just leave it out and have it unheated the next day with hot food. Alternatively, frying cold rice is very tasty.

Gailplatt95 · 14/08/2020 23:29

Always save takeaway! Christ I remember once when I was around 19/20 I fell asleep eating a kebab woke up the next day and I was still that shitfaced I finished it🤦🏽‍♀️😂 I thought saving take away was the norm!

To note I don’t eat left over kebab the next day on the reg, probably the only thing I do throw out.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 14/08/2020 23:30

Leftover takeaway always goes in the fridge.. ds2 tends to nab it for breakfast!

84claire84 · 14/08/2020 23:31

Yeah your weird.

My OH loves leftovers

Skyliner001 · 14/08/2020 23:33

Saves waste 🤗

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 14/08/2020 23:39

Cold curry on toast ... breakfast of champions!

ViciousJackdaw · 14/08/2020 23:46

Weird? As so many posters have already said, curries are so much better after a day. Just like casseroles, soups, stews etc. I think it's weird to throw perfectly good food away.

unchienandalusia · 15/08/2020 00:00

Ooooohhhhhhh OP?????? B

Shizzlestix · 15/08/2020 00:02

I’m not well today-I suspect sushi from the supermarket was to blame. The dh wanted curry as his Friday night treat, I didn’t. He saved me a tiny portion of a couple of spoonfuls, which was perfect.

Rumbletumbleinmytummy · 15/08/2020 00:03

Oh god curry is so much better the next day. It's one of the rare foods I'll put in the microwave. Nothing like a next day chicken jalfrezi. Nothing at all. Even the chillies are nicer

BackforGood · 15/08/2020 00:06

You are the one who is a little bit odd OP. You must also have led a very sheltered life up until you met your dp.

Wish there had been a vote on this - it seems we are all in agreement Smile

Doublechins · 15/08/2020 00:07

I deliberately make sure I have some left for the next day.

YABVU OP

FrangipaniBlue · 15/08/2020 00:48

What is this "leftover takeaway" of which you all speak? Grin

BluebellForest836 · 15/08/2020 00:51

I never knew people kept takeaways either OP til I moved out.
My parents never did and what we didn’t eat went in the binS
I never keep a takeaway except a dominos either and would bin any leftover curry.
