To only vacuum twice weekly?

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 17:50

Just reading another thread and someone mentioned vacuuming 3 (!) times a day. How often do y'all vacuum? Twice weekly in my house. I know we are lazy but it's grand, no one has died (yet?). I'm fairly sure there's nothing that will make me up my vacuuming levels either
Am I a full on dirty mare leading my poor DH into a life of squalor and disease? AIBU in not vacuuming more????

It used to be once a week max but we have dogs and at the moment there are grass seeds everywhere so we're giving downstairs a quick vac at least once a day. Much less effort and cheaper than a vets trip and injured dogs.

sruitfalad · 14/08/2020 19:26

At least once a day- I have a toddler and a baby who's recently been introduced to solids. We have hard floors in the living area and hallway but carpets in the bedrooms- crumbs, dirt travels everywhere- I hate it. Vacuuming brings me a sense of calm so I don't mind doing it.

teraculum29 · 14/08/2020 19:26

At this moment hoovering twice a day as cat brought fleas from somewhere despite all spot on treatments.
otherwise it was hoovered every other day.

fascinated · 14/08/2020 19:27

@SummerHouse

It's such a waste of time. Better to leave it for a week or more and marvel at the amount of smeg in your vacuum.
Haha I can relate to this
fascinated · 14/08/2020 19:28

@clary

I hoover every day downstairs and twice a week upstairs. No food or shoes upstairs (supposedly!). Downstairs takes me less than 10 mins tho. I don't use the tools and go behind the sofas and into the ceiling corners every day, that's a once a week job.

Those who do it less often, do you sweep the kitchen floor in between? Mine gets grim in a day, I can't decide if it's cos my family are very messy or what, but there is no way I could leave that three days! No pets here either so I can't blame the dog, so to speak.

Yes, dustpan amd brush, irs v efficient

If you vacuum 3 times a day, then something's not quite right.

Ellapaella · 14/08/2020 19:29

I hoover all the downstairs rooms, landing and stairs daily as we have a black Labrador who sheds the most insane amount of fur. It doesn't take more than 15 minutes.
Bedrooms are done about twice a week.

Popc0rn · 14/08/2020 19:30

Every day in the kitchen: we have a cordless hoover and keep it in there, so while the kettle boils etc I'll quickly go over the floor for a minute or two, mop a few times a week.

Every week in the living room/hallway (or before guests come round) with the corded hoover.

Probably every couple of weeks in the bedrooms.

Mustbetimeforachange · 14/08/2020 19:33

Now the cleaner is back, once a week. During lockdown? Not so much. Use the handheld for stuff on the kitchen floor as needed.

slatternissima · 14/08/2020 19:35

Have NC to tell the truth, which is that I Hoover when my parents visit. Which is once or twice a year. Other than that, I wait until the mood takes me, which it doesn't.

uglyface · 14/08/2020 19:37

I have a toddler and a cat who refuses to pee outside so has a litter tray, out of which she tracks litter. We also live in a village so track in dirt etc. If I had the time, I’d vacuum every single hour (and I bet it still wouldn’t sodding look clean). As it is, I work full time as a teacher so manage twice a week in term time and once a day in the holidays. I highly recommend a cordless vacuum for speeding up the chore!

slatternissima · 14/08/2020 19:37

I also wonder what's with all this mopping. I don't even possess a mop. I do clean the kitchen sink when it looks as if it needs doing, though. Ditto the bathroom sink and shower. I clean the loo more often.

SixesAndEights · 14/08/2020 19:39

@DappledThings

Couple of times a month maybe.
Thank god you posted! Same here.
Sixtonskip · 14/08/2020 19:39

Carpets hoovered once or twice a week downstairs, once a week or less upstairs. I sweep the hard floor every couple of days and mop weekly at this time of year but more often in winter due to muddy pawprints no matter how well I try to dry the dog's feet. How people manage to find the time (or inclination!) to hoover multiple times a day is beyond me!

How do you clean hard flooring without a mop?

FreekStar · 14/08/2020 19:43

I hoover the carpeted rooms - bedrooms, divining room and living room once a week. I hoover and mop the hard floors in the kitchen and hall once a wee with the big hoover and use the small hand-held daily to take up any visible crumbs/cat hair/bits of stuff that's blown in from outside every evening.

Curiosity101 · 14/08/2020 19:44

Daily downstairs but we have a robot vacuum cleaner to do it. Upstairs is every other day (with the robot vac when I remember to take it upstairs). I do the stairs every few weeks.

We have 2 cats, 1 baby and lots of carpet.

FreekStar · 14/08/2020 19:45

i use a cloth or a floor wipe to wipe up any sticky marks and footprints from hard floors daily.

What do you mean by hard flooring, Speakout? I have very, very old (18th century) floorboards and rugs downstairs. I'm not sure mopping would work with wood. I suppose the answer is 'Hoover' (but possibly a bit more often than I do).
marton4710 · 14/08/2020 19:47

I Hoover up once a year whether it needs doing or not 😆

slatternissima · 14/08/2020 19:47

Thinking a bit further, Speakout. I do re-paint the downstairs, bathroom and bedroom floorboards every three years or so. So I suppose that's a bit like having a new floor every three years.

Boringnamechanging · 14/08/2020 19:48

When I had a dog daily downstairs. Now I don't have a dog 3 times a day under the table Grin and less often elsewhere probably twice a week but I just do a room when needed rather than all the way through.

speakout · 14/08/2020 19:49

FreekStar
I think that would only work on small areas. Most of my downstairs space is hard surface, would be impossible to clean it with wipes.
I sweep every other day- kitchen most days, and use a mop with a bucket of hot soapy water every week throughout.

Megan2018 · 14/08/2020 19:49

When we can be bothered. We used to have a cleaner so it was weekly. Since Covid much less.
Before the robot vacuum it was 1-2 times a month if we had to do it. Now it’s 1-2 times a week downstairs. Once a fortnight upstairs.

We have both cats and a baby but life is too short for cleaning. We have low standards.

Mummy1232016 · 14/08/2020 19:50

Blimey....I think I might have a problem! I would say the hoover is out 2-3 times a day downstairs, every other day on the stairs and upstairs. It’s not particularly messy I just ‘feel’ as though it needs doing....not in a OCD manner. I thought it was the norm ha! Maybe I’ll put the hoover away....
