So many things people do to baby and toddler girls look uncomfortable to me (haircuts, clothing etc). It starts young

Marahute · 13/08/2020 10:34

They do it because it's obviously hugely offensive to a baby to be mistaken for the opposite sex. Wink

I agree entirely, it looks ridiculous. The worst is that glue you can use to STICK A BOW TO YOUR BABY'S HEAD.

I don't get people at all. Babies are beautiful as they come.

MynephewR · 13/08/2020 10:35

YANBU, it looks ridiculous and must be so uncomfortable.

Marahute · 13/08/2020 10:35

Oh and don't get me started on those pram shoes that look like high heels. Envy (not envy)

nevermorelenore · 13/08/2020 10:39

It reminds me of cartoon characters. When they want to show that an animal is a girl, they draw a bow or flower on their head.

Headbands seem pretty dangerous too. Surely you'd be forever adjusting the thing.

rosiethehen · 13/08/2020 10:41

It's because female babies often look like Winston Churchill and parents don't want them to be 'misgendered' so go all out to make them look girly.

TheGirlWithAPrince · 13/08/2020 10:41

i hate the sequin clothes or loads of ruffles.. that cant be comfortable

recklessruby · 13/08/2020 10:42

Yanbu. Babies are not fashion accessories.
Dd (now 26) would not have tolerated it and screamed the world down.
She had light brown curls (no bow) and was mistaken for a boy several times.
"Aww what's his name?"
Me "Emma Louise".
Hmm

PhilSwagielka · 13/08/2020 10:43

Because they want people to know that their baby is a GURL.

Knittedfairies · 13/08/2020 10:45

You can buy glue to stick a bow on a baby's head? I knew some Japanese girls stick their socks to their legs so they look just right, but never thought of anybody glueing anything to a baby's head.

Marahute · 13/08/2020 10:45

My children have both been mistaken for the opposite sex multiple times... I literally could not give two shits about it and I really don't get the mindset of anyone who would. But then I am gender critical and can't stand the way adults impress their own gender stereotypes onto children.

PasstheBucket89 · 13/08/2020 10:45

GLUE!!!! Shock how is that allowed?? My Ds had a big head of golden ringlets, was confused as a girl, even with a blue spiderman coat, dino shoes, when a boy at his playgroup passed him a toy pram thought it might be time for a haircut Grin, he was nearly 2 though.

Even if you actually think it’s cute, they’re a health risk. I don’t know why anyone would do that to their baby.

Marahute · 13/08/2020 10:47

@Knittedfairies - yep, and to make it even worse (if possible) it's called "Girlie Glue".

I honestly can't even... Angry

WhereTheCrawdadsSing · 13/08/2020 10:49

The worst is that glue you can use to STICK A BOW TO YOUR BABY'S HEAD.

Shock holy shit! Why would you ever?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/08/2020 10:50

It reminds me of cartoon characters. When they want to show that an animal is a girl, they draw a bow or flower on their head.

Or they wear a dress whilst the 'default' male characters don't wear any clothes at all - at least to cover their bottom halves.

Somebody on here ages ago described this practice as 'making babies look like Easter eggs' and I still silently chuckle at the thought every time I see one in real life Grin

Kreacheriscleaning · 13/08/2020 10:51

I love that the 14% who think that yabu have not commented. Maybe that says something...

We were bought loads of outfits for dd with them on. I found that the headbands came in quite useful for keeping the nappies and wipes together in the change bag.

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 13/08/2020 10:51

A few years ago a baby died when she was put down for a nap and her mother forgot to remove her hair band. It slipped down over her airway and the baby suffocated to death.
I think they look ridiculous but each to their own, but the safety risk surely makes them not worth it regardless of how much you might like them.

MissHoney85 · 13/08/2020 10:52

Yes!! Totally agree. Was thinking about this just yesterday. Totally pointless and just serves as another reminder of how girls are conditioned to be decorative objects right from the start.

PatchworkElmer · 13/08/2020 10:52

I really don’t understand this. When you boil it down- are people that worried that others will think their tiny baby has a penis, instead of a vagina? It’s absolute insanity.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/08/2020 10:52

when a boy at his playgroup passed him a toy pram thought it might be time for a haircut

I don't get that bit. Why would offering a toy pram to a boy be an issue? Confused

Marahute · 13/08/2020 10:55

I don't get that bit. Why would offering a toy pram to a boy be an issue?

Because touching it would definitely make his penis fall off... duh.

MaryShelley1818 · 13/08/2020 10:56

Oh god they're awful, YANBU.
I've never seen one that actually makes a little girl look nice. Someone I went to school with used one constantly with her daughter and now at 2.5 she has a dent in her head and you can see where the hair hasn't grown as well as the rest.

missyB1 · 13/08/2020 10:57

And baby girls dressed head to toe in pink wearing a big flowery headband and being transported in a bright pink pram!
Yes we get it - you had a girl!! Grin

I don’t understand it and I think it looks horrible.

Not only do they look atrocious they are potentially lethal.
A very sad story indeed - see above.

I remember the day my daughter was born in hospital - ironically with a head covered in long thick black hair - we were waiting for her newborn checks to be done by the doctor. Whilst we sat there another woman came and sat with us and waited. Her day old little girl who was as bald as you could get was wearing a leopard print big bow band. It was practically engulfing her tiny little face and Constabularies rly needing to be readjusted.
As we were called in the doctor excused herself, she walked straight over to the baby’s crib and promptly removed the headband with a thunderous look on her face.
