*constantly not Constabularies 🙄

luckylavender · 13/08/2020 10:58

I can't bear them. Think they should be banned.

Minai · 13/08/2020 10:59

I find it bizarre, and they can be a suffocation risk too. I find it equally strange when the pram is covered in pink ruffles in case god forbid someone mistake a baby girl for a boy.

Also find it funny when I saw on a Facebook group that someone was looking for a baby walker FOR A BOY as if his penis would fall off by using a baby walker with pink on it Grin

No way would my dd ever have tolerated such nonsense on her head. It would have been off in a flash.

Kreacheriscleaning · 13/08/2020 11:05

Oh that link is so sad. Sad
Why would you risk that?

bananamonkey · 13/08/2020 11:07

They are absolutely hideous.

DC1 once got mistaken for boy because she was in blue polka dot dungaree shorts. The bright pink vest and frilly socks didn’t matter apparently, they were really off with me when I said she was a girl and said I shouldn’t have dressed her in blue Confused

Lilybet1980 · 13/08/2020 11:07

Even if the baby has a decent head of hair it looks ridiculous, the bows especially. It’s top of my baby chav list.

TrickyD · 13/08/2020 11:08

Headbands and Bows on bald baby head
This belongs on the recent thread about things that are
tacky and common.

thriftyhen · 13/08/2020 11:08

Babies are fiddly enough to get dressed at the best of times without adding headbands and bows!

TheAquaticDuchess · 13/08/2020 11:09

I hate them too. They look naff and they clearly aren’t for the baby’s benefit.

I struggle with girls‘ clothes generally. I’m currently pregnant and don’t know what I’m having, so keeping the clothes neutral. But virtually every baby clothes retailer divides clothes into ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ and the boys clothes could easily be worn by either, but the girls clothes have gone out of their way to be overly ‘girly’, with ruffles and peplums and bows and all kinds of fussy things that must make them awkward to change and be uncomfortable or annoying for the baby. It really drives me mad.

pilates · 13/08/2020 11:09

Agree it’s awful

DopamineHits · 13/08/2020 11:10

Better a flowery headband than getting holes punched through their eyes for the diamante stud "yes she's a girl" earrings.

ftm202020 · 13/08/2020 11:10

They are so trashy. People seem so desperate that their babies don't get mistaken for the wrong sex. So weird.

otterbaby · 13/08/2020 11:10

Agreed, poor things Sad they're already getting used to life outside the womb and adjusting to wearing clothes, why would you stick some scratchy lace atrocity on their heads?

mathsmonster · 13/08/2020 11:12

I couldn't get mine to keep a sun hat or a pair of socks on.

I had two totally bald baby boys. Strangely, despite them using the same plain black buggy and wearing most of the same clothes, only one of them was regularly mistaken for a girl. I am fairly sure that it has not done any lasting damage to DS1.

DopamineHits · 13/08/2020 11:12

EYES??! I meant ears! Grin

tillytoodles1 · 13/08/2020 11:12

My daughter had thin, tatty hair as a toddler so I got it cut quite short. When she was two, I took her and my older son to see Father Christmas . When he said "hello boys ", she was really upset and cried all the way home because she thought she'd get boys toys for Christmas and her brother would take them all

WhistlersandJugglers · 13/08/2020 11:13

I always worry about the fontanelles when I see babies in headbands. I hate the thought of their little heads being squished.
I also dressed my crawling babies of both varieties in navy tracksuit bottoms. I was too lazy to be scrubbing the knees of light coloured clothes and anything that wasn't completely in rags got passed down anyway.

PasstheBucket89 · 13/08/2020 11:13

No, because if children his own age were misgendering him then it might be frustrating for him. he had speech disorder so couldn't effectively communicate that himself,

Awful. Remind me of the big fat gypsy wedding tv show.
Usually accompanied by a frilly pram, some sort of crystal hanging from the hood, and a jewelled dummy with personalised name in beads.
Yes, it's a thing, no not for me at all.

Newbracelet · 13/08/2020 11:15

Playing dolly dress up.Sad

nasiisthebest · 13/08/2020 11:16

Gosh I never judged parents for how they dressed their kids. The suffocation risk would be a reason not to do it but other than that I really don't care what they wear. I wear a headband myself and don't find it uncomfortable at all so those remarks surprise me.

VivaMiltonKeynes · 13/08/2020 11:17

and there I thought it was only me Grin

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 13/08/2020 11:18

It’s pointless but I wouldn’t imagine it’s as uncomfortable as some people are saying as long as it’s not tight.

As we were called in the doctor excused herself, she walked straight over to the baby’s crib and promptly removed the headband with a thunderous look on her face.

I wouldn’t use a headband on a baby so young...but I think that doctor was incredibly rude. If it was my child I’d have told the doctor to butt out and put the headband back on.
