DH says I’m an embarrassing nerd

I play the Sims. I have lately taken to building and have built a number of homes. I’m getting really into it and have renovated a whole town. I have created an instagram page for my Sims game and share all my builds on there as well as my stories. My next project is making an abandoned Wild West town like the ones we have come across in America. This will likely take a month or so and then once I’m done I’ll move families into it who will then renovate the town.

Last night DH came across my Instagram and went off on one saying I’m a complete giant nerd and he sent the pics to all his family and to his mate. His mate asked if him if I’ve stopped playing grandma turismo because he kept beaten me. DH didn’t know I was playing this car game online with his mate and is now saying I’m an embarrassment and I’ll be the joke of his work place.

Wtf. Is it really so bad to have interests that don’t affect anyone else even if I am a Middle Aged woman?

Jesus I wish gaming was a more welcoming place! You have every right to enjoy it! Shouldn’t matter age/race/gender.

WelshMoth · 14/08/2020 21:29

I don't think I'll be any good at it though. I don't have the patience to learn neither, and if things continue with home-learning, all my tech-capacity will be taken up with zoom, Microsoft teams and other teaching applications and I learn tech with my tongue sticking, I'm that bad.

As for the negative comments, everyone has their hobbies folks.

NinkiNonkiNikau · 15/08/2020 02:10

Thanks for that Op - you’ve reminded me of the joy I took in playing the Sims! My kids are on board, Sims 4 has been bought and the battle has begun

Brockaslass · 16/08/2020 13:27

Sounds more like he is jelous that your playing online games with his mate and he clearly hasn't asked him. Tell him to jog on nas grow up everyone has hobbies. I love sims too but I just build houses with little hidden rooms then create people who have annoyed me and put them in said room and remove the door and watch the wee on the floor and die through neglect. Maybe you should try doing that with him. He is defo a playground bully did his mummy not let him play as a kid and he gets so offended that you still can as an adult. Sounds quite pathetic to be fair.

AWryGiraffe · 16/08/2020 23:03

Stupid question - how do you buy houses to renovate in sims 4? You can only buy one house at a time unlike sims 3 - do you just move the whole household? I've found the closed town set up a lot more limiting on sims 4

Also goes without saying - ignore your OH

StarlitTrees · 16/08/2020 23:18

I've followed you on IG, you've made me want to start building on Sims again! 😁

TinkersTailor · 17/08/2020 00:17

@AWryGiraffe You can just click on the house and choose to renovate it whilst it's empty, you don't need a family to be in there Smile

Choose the house you want, click on it and then you can choose build.

Emmelina · 17/08/2020 00:37

I love the Sims too. I have a marvellous little town going now!
And don’t get me started on my animal crossing island Bear DH just rolls his eyes now ;)
He even knows some Star Wars stuff just from me throwing relevant quotes at him in conversation, despite never having watched a single Star Wars movie, haha. (40, by the way.)

The Sims is a classic and I remember when it first came out when I was a kid (the excitement was overwhelming), I used to love that game and could only dream of a day playing it but have young dc so that kind of free time is the stuff of fantasies! Me and dh both have interests the other doesn’t particularly enjoy but that is what makes the person that you love. I feel your interests are part of who you are and I would be extremely hurt if dh acted like yours and I think he would be if I did. Me and dh will joke and calls each other a geek over certain things but it’s in fun and we alway go in to say it’s actually really cool. Your dh sounds like such a loser and I would want to make a sims character if him and brick him in a little square Angry

go on*

Mrseds · 18/08/2020 13:51

I love playing the sims, I only play on my phone as I would lose many hours on the computer and who would feed the kids 😂
I also have a hobby which many find odd but my hubby is so supportive of it. Not cool him calling you out like that!!

MinorArcana · 18/08/2020 17:21

That’s really mean of your DH.

If someone I knew sent me pics of their DP’s Instagram like that, I’d be thinking a lot less of them for trying to mock their DP by sending pics, regardless of what the DP’s hobby was.

I love the Sims BTW, although I am rubbish at building things. I find the roofs in Sims 4 particularly tricky.

@Hindsite do you post your builds in Facebook too? I’m on a few Sims pages and groups on Facebook (I don’t have Instagram) and that church build you posted a picture of looked awfully familiar.

LovelyIssues · 23/08/2020 09:33

You sound cool OP! I love the Sims and if you it enjoy it f*CK him Wink

YouJustDoYou · 23/08/2020 09:35

Men can be total fucking childish arseholes when it comes to female gamers. You're awesome op- pay your shitbag teenager husband no mind. I'm an utter nerd too, no fucks given 👍
