To think that most F1 racers seem to have won the genetic lottery?

Absolutely irrelevant topic but this has always been on my mind for no reason at all. I watch a lot of F1 races due to my family being very much into it and for some reason they all generally seem to be what you could consider 'good looking'.

I am sure there is no actual correlation between physical appearance and success as a F1 racer but it's something I noticed ages ago

Am I the only one that thinks so? I hope not 😂

DC fan here. Carlos Sainz Jr isn’t too shabby.

But no to Christian Horner. Strikes me as a major sleazeball with petulant tendencies.

Loladisco · 10/08/2020 20:15

Not followed F1 for a few years but used to have a big crush on vettel Blush also Rob smedley, Massa's race engineer.

ohfourfoxache · 10/08/2020 20:17

Well, I wouldn’t kick JB out of bed. Or Rosberg for that matter! Wink

Maybe it’s a confidence thing though - none of them are exactly shrinking violets

thepixelrevival · 10/08/2020 20:20

@SeasideArms

Danny Ric is nice, Lewis is good looking, Max Verstappen though? God no!
Verstappen is too young, I can remember his father racing.

Bottas is quite pleasing, I rate him as a driver too. Hamilton though - no thanks!

Other than my own eyes Hmm. How much do you actually know about youth karting?

There has to be the narrative that he was a child prodigy and was beating the field all over. He was actually better by the time he was a young teen because he'd had a lot of encouragement and support from his future bosses. Was he the best or just one of many talented kids? Not sure, but that was the point where the money talks.

When you see the younger youth racing series on TV it looks great with all the sponsorship but they are also personally paying in £50-£100k+ per year to race at that level. Those that can stick it the longest have the best chance of making it.

Its much worse than the dance school circuit!

Actually Billy Monger looks like he could turn out to be VERY good looking - but way too young for me (I’m old enough to be his mum) Blush

Kimi is a total babe.
Nico is also particularly tasty.

I know nothing about it. I lived on a remote island for years, I only had access to televised motor sport.

I wonder why they say he was signed aged 12, if he was with mclaren aged 6. Seems like a very odd thing to do.

I have family working in red bull. Horner is lovely, even tempered, brilliant boss and really nice guy.
SerenDippitty · 10/08/2020 20:28

I think the same about RAF pilots.

Why is it odd? Hollywood/ Premier League Football / Pop culture / all do it?
MyopiaUtopia · 10/08/2020 20:28

I went to school in the same class with Alex Albon, except he was rarely actually at the school as he was always off karting. Can confirm very wealthy parents, he lived in a house with a MOAT! He always seemed nice and was quite quiet.

MsEllany · 10/08/2020 20:29

Have you noticed David Coulthard always wears white jeans?

Just mentioning it as I noticed Grin

But no, I disagree. Some are ok. Hamilton I dislike immensely. Might just be his personality though Wink

LittleBipper · 10/08/2020 20:32

Constance Salieri Lewis signed to McLaren after Cadets, might even have been after a year of Junior Yamaha. Beginning or end of 1997. He was British Cadet Champion in 1995 when he was ten (several years younger than most champions in that class) so hardly rubbish before McLaren got hold of him. You've always had to be 8 to race in Cadets, about ten years ago they introduced a class for 6+.

Anyway I don't personally think they are particularly nice looking as a group, it's money and personality - objectively Ricciardo is quite funny looking but he is lovely.

Also why won't this thing let me change my name anymore!

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/08/2020 20:32

I love DC, he always comes across as such a decent guy, I got to see him race too.

CaptainCallisto · 10/08/2020 20:32

And the white jeans are always tight beautifully tailored. Not that I've looked... My bedroom wall in the late 90's was plastered with DC posters (and Adam Cooper from the Royal Ballet). My friends couldn't understand why it wasn't Boyzone or Beckham Grin

ChangeThePassword · 10/08/2020 20:33

Why is it odd? Hollywood/ Premier League Football / Pop culture / all do it?

All? Really?

Surely you can see why it's odd? People, like you it seems, will know its a lie. Surely they stand to lose more when they get found out than gain by it?

David Coulthard Grin

Does Hamilton have a personality?

It's not a lie? Your reliable source of wiki just doesn't tell you his life story from a youngster. You are not owed that information.
ChangeThePassword · 10/08/2020 20:38

I've heard him tell the story of meeting Ron Dennis aged ten, so it must be a lie, if what you are saying is correct.

But LittleBipper seems to think you are mistaken.

ChangeThePassword · 10/08/2020 20:41

And I'm very aware wiki isn't reliable, that's kind of the point of me asking you questions! If I thought it was reliable I would have immediately dismissed what you said!

LittleBipper · 10/08/2020 20:42

I was there when he met Ron Dennis, he was a flipping good actor if he'd known him for four years already! (He's not a good actor)

ConstanceSalinger · 10/08/2020 20:42

He signed to McLaren after cadets but who put him through cadets? Did his Dad pay for the McLaren team trucks to attend? No.

Ffs. This is a thread about the attractiveness of millionaires. Sadly selfies weren't a thing then.
