www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/aug/09/labour-mp-dawn-butler-stopped-by-police-in-london

The police stopped the car being driven by her friend (she was a passenger.) Unlike the elite athletes stopped with their 3 month old baby in the car www.theguardian.com/law/2020/jul/06/why-did-police-stop-and-search-bianca-williams-and-ricardo-dos-santos she’s had an apology.

AIBU to think that if she wasn’t an MP the police would be sticking by their ‘reasonable suspicion’? Is that what it takes to be dealt with fairly by the police?

Yup

Someone on here mentioned the athlete Bianca Williams. Correct me if I’m wrong.l but wasn’t her boyfriend driving in a dangerous manner and then initially didn’t stop? He had their child in the car too.

Secondly, the police federation are keen to post online the full incident using the police officer body camera. They must be sure gang have nothing to hide.

Thirdly, I’m some cases, not just here in the UK, but some criminals have been caught due to a routine stop. Sometimes wanted people are caught or drugs are found, or people are driving under the influence.

Again no one has the answers to resolve back on black gang culture in London. Until then the police will be criticised.

This is the same Dawn Butler who used 18 k of tax payers money on a jucuzzi, amongst other things to do with MP expenses, so I’ll see what happens with this case before Ms Butler takes the moral high ground in my eyes.

Well the first step might be to stop using the adjective black everywhere ?

There is a successful solution in Glasgow. Yes be posted it - did you read it?

Stop and search isn’t going to stop gang related crime.

Although the majority of violent crime there is white/white gang related many of the issues are the same - linking education, health and policing is the approach that needs to be taken. It’s not just a police issue.,

thedancingbear · 13/08/2020 11:45

^Flax is clearly a racist

Why?^

Fucking hell, do we need to link you to Wiktionary?

Jangirl2018 · 13/08/2020 12:16

@Flaxmeadow

Why?

LMAO It’s your full time Mumsnet job isn't it?? Why be such a coward and play ignorant?? Their are threads upon threads of it from you. I really don’t understand why you can’t just proudly admit it?! Bizarre

C130 · 13/08/2020 12:47

Herewego. As another poster has pointed out, they were able to implement a programme in Glasgow, that lowered knife crime, or White on White knife crime if you prefer?

Dweetfidilove · 13/08/2020 13:30

To the persons insisting the driver doesn't 'look black', can you please explain to me what your idea of black looks like?
He certainly doesn't look white Hmm. When racists are going to be what they are, or the police is going to target blacks, anything not distinctly white will do as black comes in many shades.

chomalungma · 13/08/2020 14:36

Well that's not true. Even the Daily Mail doesn't say she claimed £18k on a jacuzzi.

seasonsoftheyear · 13/08/2020 15:08

Dawn Butler was claiming taxpayers money for two houses, one in Stratford and one in Wembley. Why she needed money for two houses is anyone's guess.

C130 · 13/08/2020 15:17

You could say the same about all the other MP's who were doing the same can you not.

There’s no point in arguing with them. I don’t doubt that black people are dlstopped disproportionately but there is no evidence whatsoever that this was a racist stop.
Dawn Butler lives to stir up trouble and division. She says nothing about black youths in her area killing each other on a regular basis.

No normal people would think you are racist - some people just throw that out as an easy option because you don’t agree with them. It was exactly the same for the BlM marches. If you didn’t think thousands of people gathering close together in a pandemic was a good idea who were immediately called racist. The word has no meaning now.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 13/08/2020 15:24

C130
How many other MPs who live in central London were claiming money for second homes also in london?

Hingeandbracket · 13/08/2020 15:28

@C130

You could say the same about all the other MP's who were doing the same can you not.
Indeed - and it's really not relevant.

Just another "hey look over there" from people who still refuse to accept there is a problem.

Have a look at this - it's not an isolated case -

If, instead of there being "three steps to heaven", there were instead "three steps to victim-blaming", then may I be the first (if not only) person to suggest this is step one ?

I mean let's not hold back. What exactly was DB doing there ? At that time of night ? I mean she really should take some of the blame here.

It's fucking disgusting how people can be ensnared in victim blaming to disguise their racism. And, I suspect, misogyny too.

@Rubyupbeat

Sorry, but I always believe there is a reason you are stopped, even if you are innocent, your car could fit a profile.

The point being that sometimes the reason people are stopped is profiling the colour of their skin. Which is racist.

PhilSwagielka · 15/08/2020 14:28

A handful of the charming comments Butler has had from angry men on Facebook. Good old silent majority, eh?

The racist/misogynist Venn diagram seems to be pretty much a circle eh?

Horrible treatment.

While the comments threatening violence And making personal comments on her looks are unacceptable The oneS saying she is a stirring racist are absolutely spot on.

Yesterday she posted a link for students who had failed to achieve in their exams.
It was for an organisation which only helps black students. She did not also post a general link.
She literally couldn’t give 2 shits about the white children in her constituency and it is likely in an area such as hers that many of the white working class kids will be in similar or worse situations than the black ones.
She is not fit to be an MP.

SmileEachDay · 15/08/2020 14:53

That’s what you took from that collection of comments?

Jesus Christ. I’m not interested in discussing anything with you.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 15/08/2020 15:08

Yes some of them were purely criticising her for lying and for stirring up hatred against the police. Nothing wrong with them at all.

And I presume your refusal to engage with me is because you know you cannot defend her indefensible racism.

SmileEachDay · 15/08/2020 15:24

Honestly. Look at this statement. If you can’t see what’s wrong with it, then I can’t help you.
