AIBU to feel pretty devastated by this, even though I obviously wasn’t there when he did it. Feel like a really crap parent.

Isn't this all part of the learning process? All these MNetrs on here make out they never did anything wrong, were always perfection in itself. Kids make mistakes, kids learn from them. As said, no one hurt, no serious damage, he won't do it again, he has had his shock moment-

Drink drivers kill people. It’s not part of the learning process.

A hangover is part of the learning process. A potentially fatal collision is not.

And for the record I have made many mistakes in my life, but I have never driven drunk. Not after one drink, certainly not after six.

Society needs to view it as a deeply shameful, selfish act.

I worded it wrongly, I really didn't mean that all kids should drive about drunk, I only meant that he has hopefully had a a big enough fright to never to do it again-

i am sure your son will have learnt his lesson after this awful accident. Concentrate on supporting his recovery for now and stop blaming yourself. He is an adult now.
Do you know whether this was an isolated instance or whether he has a.problem with alcohol and risk taking?

Just wanted to update on my son so you know what to expect.
He was caught drink driving Dec 2019. Went to court yesterday.
Blood test was 84mg (80 is cut off)

He got 12 month ban, £190 fine and he can take the rehab course to reduce his ban by 13 weeks.
