To leave my lovely DH after this?

I have just been in the kitchen and could smell burning from the toaster. I asked DH and he said it was the SCONE HE WAS TOASTING!!??
Nobody toasts a scone do they? To be fair he’s from forrin but he’s been here long enough to know better.
It is a leaving offence or does he just need some baked good re-education?

I've just had a toasted scone with butter as a treat Grin

StillCoughingandLaughing · 02/08/2020 16:13

I think he should leave you.

Spied · 02/08/2020 16:13

It's something I'd probably try.
A bit like me warning a digestive in the microwaveGrin ( + I'm not forrin)

Like...an actual scone? The ones that come with jam and cream?

Or a dropped scone?

Ellisandra · 02/08/2020 16:14

Why wouldn’t you toast a scone? Can he nice at any time (though it freshly baked I wouldn’t) but if they’re going a wee bit stale, it’s the thing to do! I think you’re the one that needs to be left Grin

AnnaSW1 · 02/08/2020 16:14

My partner does. He thinks I am strange not to toast it!

Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2020 16:14

Really? It’s me then?
I’m shook

I'd toast a stale one. If I'd been daft enough to buy a packet of supermarket scones in the first place. (Never worth the calories even if reduced to 10p.)

Tappering · 02/08/2020 16:15

Toast a scone? As in, put it in the toaster?

YANBU. No jury would convict!

I toasted one once..It was slightly stale. delicious!

SpeedofaSloth · 02/08/2020 16:16

Ooh, I have never thought to toast a scone, I bet it's great though.

Gemma2019 · 02/08/2020 16:16

I've never heard of anyone toasting a scone before - how disgusting.

Collision · 02/08/2020 16:17

Totally acceptable and delicious

Namey32 · 02/08/2020 16:18

Are there regional differences here?

Or are we actually talking about the sweet scones served with jam and cream? If so, that's just wrong Shock

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 02/08/2020 16:19

I have toasted a stale scone before now. Tis a waste otherwise.

pointythings · 02/08/2020 16:19

Stale scones are far better when toasted. Toasting a fresh home made scone is an act of sacrilege.

And I'm forrin.

CindersCatsSister · 02/08/2020 16:19

Toasted cheese scone? Ohhhhhhh yeah

jenniuol · 02/08/2020 16:20

Oh I love a toasted scone Blush butter all melts then jam on top Halo

Inaseagull · 02/08/2020 16:20

What a great idea! I usually warm in the micro. Did he cut it in half though?

Rainbowshine · 02/08/2020 16:20

Did he mistake it for a tea cake? I might forgive him if it had sultanas or raisins in it and thought you should treat it like a tea cake.

I do find a warm recently baked scone is very nice, if savoury. But not a sweet one, it makes the cream melt which is just wrong.

MrsGrindah · 02/08/2020 16:21

M and S once did a combination of a scone and a muffin ..they were called Scoffins and were meant for toasting. They were bloody gorgeous.

Yep a poofy, slightly toppling over scone, cut in half and toasted.

However if it's a tall scone then they go under the grill or else you get burnt edges.

Drop scones/scotch pancakes are also thrown with abandon in to the toaster when not eaten fresh and hot.

Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2020 16:22

Cheese scone = acceptable
Fruit scone = travesty
