I have just been in the kitchen and could smell burning from the toaster. I asked DH and he said it was the SCONE HE WAS TOASTING!!??
Nobody toasts a scone do they? To be fair he’s from forrin but he’s been here long enough to know better.
It is a leaving offence or does he just need some baked good re-education?

🥴 Wouldn't it crumble and leave an awful mess? Wouldn't it be too thick?

MinorArcana · 02/08/2020 19:37

Don’t the scones get stuck at the bottom of the toaster?

I’ve only ever toasted scones under the grill.

viques · 02/08/2020 19:46

I don't think there is one there now, but years ago when M and S had a branch in Paris they had lots of complaints about the inedibility of crumpets. Apparently many people were eating them without toasting them first.

Shock Grin

Toasting scones is very wrong though, and what is more, if they are the ones with sultanas in could actually kill your toaster. It's a well known fact that more toasters die in currant/sultana interface incidents than any other form of toaster abuse.

In the days when I could eat scones (now T2D) I used to love a toasted scone!

Iverunoutofnames · 02/08/2020 20:00

We toast stale scones. Totally normal.

Newjez · 02/08/2020 20:00

Did he cut it from the top or from the side, and did he toast it in toaster or under the grill.

oakleaffy · 02/08/2020 20:01

Toasting scones is fine..I prefer them lightly toasted :)

Newjez · 02/08/2020 20:01

Sorry, it was a toaster. I assume it got stuck?

Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2020 20:12

Yes, toaster
I think there are still raisins in there

Have I really lived 66 years on this earth and never even thought to toast a scone ....????

...... apparently, I have ........

starfishmummy · 02/08/2020 20:24

@Hoppinggreen

Nobody has guessed correctly where he’s from yet Clue - they eat nice cakes and waltz
Is he Mystic and soulful?
Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2020 20:27

No, he’s very direct to the point of rudeness - apparently as long as it’s true it’s ok to say it.
He is actually very lovely but struggles to understand why people get offended by the truth.

I have microwaved a scone before but will try putting it under the grill next time (good excuse to make some for this experiment Wink )

I always microwave stale jam doughnuts for 10 seconds - just enough to revive them without the jam becoming the temperature of molten lava.

FairyDogMother11 · 02/08/2020 20:43

I wouldn't usually toast my own scone, however have had this and enjoyed it very much.

On the subject of culinary issues one's DH might have, my husband once decided to make an omelette whilst I was at work. He told me very seriously we needed to get a proper whisk as he he had struggled to whisk his eggs to make this omelette. On further probing, he claimed that our whisk was tiny, did not do a lot and during the course of his ordeal, that it had broken. I went to the kitchen to inspect the broken whisk and it transpired that he had been using my coffee milk frother to make a four egg omelette. I didn't stop laughing the rest of the day Grin

Rose789 · 02/08/2020 20:44

Mmmm toasted scones are amazing. Obviously the best is homemade still warm from the oven with butter and jam, or a hot cheese scone with salted butter. But when they start to go hard and stale slice them and stick them under the grill for a couple of minutes.
God I would kill for a scone right now- apparently I was feeling healthy when I did the weekly food shop and seem to have only bought fruit and veg and actual real food stuff 🤦🏼‍♀️

whojamaflip · 02/08/2020 20:50

Always toast scones here and dh eats his toasted with butter and marmite! (Plain and fruit Grin)

LesleyA · 02/08/2020 20:55

I just cannot get my head around the fact that you would leave someone because of toasting something. He didn’t toast a pet, or your lipstick it was something that needed heating so what on earth is wrong with using a toaster. Who cares what he used. really!!

Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2020 21:00

I cannot get my head around people with no sense of humour whatsoever

I love a toasted scone!

bettys · 02/08/2020 21:18

points and screams à la bodysnatchers movie

I love this description, I am picturing Donald Sutherland right now, this is how I react to sultanas in scones

crikeycrumbsblimey · 02/08/2020 21:45

Toasted cheese scones and butter are heaven

Gemma2019 · 02/08/2020 22:44

My DH used to spread Dairylea on sultana scones. I've never felt less attracted to someone after seeing him eat that concoction.

Spied · 02/08/2020 23:26

Venice?

BigChocFrenzy · 02/08/2020 23:48

I thought scones always had to be toasted

Do you eat them cold ?
< horror emoticon >

and also "scone" must be pronounced to rhyme with "gone"
< stirs thread with a big wooden spoon >

Oysterbabe · 03/08/2020 05:44

Tbh as long as you're putting the jam first I I don't care how / if you heat them.
